Chaos Raptors?

So Ive read the typical, arrogant, not talkative to others that arent Raptors ect ect. My question is about their feat. They are claw-like, almost Warped. Are they fashioned by Mechanicum help so they look more like bird-claws, did the Warp have anything to do with it? *I'm looking at you Tzeentch*

And if its Dark Mechanicum, what happened to their real feat?

Yep its never been covered before, but gw take on them from what we do no is all their crap looks they way they do because of staying in the warp to long. (Chaos thinks they would be better as bird robots?)

Because GW decided stuff involving chaos by picking random crap out of a hat. Seriously Slaanesh, and bugs?

I would venture to say that their predatory "style" leads them to modify their armour. Another example of this would be their speakers, which project their hunting screams/cries.

Chaos mutations rarely tend to be uniform, anyways. Even among Nurgle's Plague Marines, their lesions, sores, etc., have a variety to them.

Well I know the idea why they do it, Im more interesting in how. :) Well so basicly no exact science has been proven, but its heavily hinted from GW that they are Warped. :)

Tzeentch as a serpent and Slaanesh as a bug? Wtf?

Really?

(from the latest Codex: Chaos Space Marines)

"... the assault companies of the Emperor and Horus were usually held in reserve and then sent into action against the weakest parts of the enemy line. This concept of preying on the vulnerable has led to the Raptors becoming vicious hunters..."

"Many who join the ranks of the Raptors modify their armour to give themselves a more terrifying appearance, and the Raptors often fit amplifiers and voxcasters that emit piercing wails and screams. Their armour can be highly stylized, mimicking the appearance of a vicious bird of prey or swooping daemon."

The last edition's Codex (and the "Raptor Cult" Index Astartes article, as well) did make a mention of their equipment/power armour mutating in the way of Chaos, but the quoted sentences above are from a much more descriptive piece on the Raptors. :)

Cheers,
P.

I imagine the Raptors have the mindset that they are akin to the most viscious of predatory birds. So they messed with their helm-vox to allow them to scream and hunt in packs, picking off those at the edges or who have been seperated or look vulnerable. But, keeping the bird theme in mind, it wouldn't surprise me if those thoughts, if strong and integral to how the Raptors view themselves, are worked on by the warp, maybe changing their bodies first, causing them to have to seek-out DarkMech help to change their armour. Or maybe the change was simultaneously organic and armoured, with their feet changiing as their boots did, the Raptors needing no help at all. Or any set of circumstances in between.
Personally, I think the Raptors' conception of what they embodied was what the warp worked on, their bodies and armour changing together. I see them as being really birdlike- aggressive, but a bit dim- happy to work for those who will promise them sport, weapons, support and more sport! I would imagine Raptor Lords are rather rare, although those that have the aptitude to win such power are incredibly dangerous with a mind that could think its way through a corkscrew, without touching the sides.

Hell, at the end of the day, most any idea is valid... so I'm definitely not dismissing the idea out of hand.

Frankly, I think a cult of Raptors transformed into avian predators sounds awesome... I was just pointing out that such an idea does not necessarily, or automatically, pertain to the Raptors as a whole. :)

Yeah I would think that would be cool too, but then its perhaps like the Chaos Legions, you cant say exactly everyone within the Legion did the same thing. You have to look from the warbands and each warband is different. Perhaps this could be said about the Raptor packs/squads as well. :)

Wasn't it to make them look more intimidating? I'd sure as hell drop a brown load if I'd meet a guy with clawfeet
That is true, they did. :) But again, and please dont be offended for my reply, this is the answer to why, not how they made them. :)

*places assault marine and a raptor on the table*

... *rubs chin*

mm...

*grabs assault marine and leaves raptor on the table*

I remember my brother using Raptors when he took my chaos army not my favorite units in my opinion.
