What is/was the specialty of the Relictors?

I've been putting together a Relictors force, but I find it's always nice to have a theme to the army, like White Scars loving bikes/rapid assaults and Iron Hands loving dreads and bionic "enhancements". So what was the specialty of the Relictors (beyond a fondness for forbidden gear)? Assault or "hold the line"?

They use Daemon Weapons and don't care whether they're fighting Chaos or Imperialists to get their hands on them.

Stubborn might represent this well, while Lysander has a S10 weapon with 4 Attacks, whereas most other characters have 3 S8 Attacks with a Thammer. Could pass itself off well.

They sound like the Oblationists from Dark Heresy or the Xanthites (Astartes version of course). A radical Inquisitor's best buddies.

Indeed. It was hanging out with Radicals that got them in trouble in the first place...

relictors were declared excommunicatus by the inquisition and practically wiped out by the grey knights, but then GW changed the fluff so now they only have a close eye on them for being naughty.

needless to say the new fluff is pretty much entirely ignored for being shit, unimaginative and boring.

GW never really elaborates on many of the SM chpater fluff except for the blue boys (which i am so sick of being the poster boys). well i cant say that they do a bit on the other main ones but most the UM... Ide say for their odd practices you could make em CSM or SM. I kinda like their attitude screw the rules we are gonna win however we can which i think falls under unconventional warfare...

Yeah, I'd rather keep them as "strained" Loyalists (Still revere the Emperor, but have a healthy dislike for his mostly corrupt "inheritors") than as yet another fallen-to-Chaos renegade group. So far I'm angling for dark warrior monks who feel no qualms in thumping "Loyalists" or Chaos-worshipping scum. I DO wonder how they'd get along with the Soul Drinkers...

I thought that they were classed as traitors after an incident on Subiaco Diablo with the Diamedes Archive during the 13th Black Crusade?

They got their asses handed to them by the GK but the inquisitor leading the assault got the relic from the archive because he was secretly a radical.

i always pictured them as the inner circle of some extreme holy order, i suppose in the real world it wold be the religious hunters that worked/work (?) insert as you see fit for the vatican and the Inquisition or the office of Holy Orders as it is now known. sorta thomas de torquemanda types, dark, broody and whatever ends justifies the means.
