Out of all the space marine chapters, i find the salamanders to be the most interesting. The thing is, there isn't really much on them so I'm wondering why they stick out as a chapter. That is my question lol. I know that they are slower than other marines due to the great amounts of gravity on their planet but i would like to know more about their strengths. Plus... does anyone know when that new hero in the space marine codex for the salamanders is comming out?

Vulcan is rumored to be relased around the time of PlanetStrike.
There was a WD along time ago, (I'd have to really go digging to find the issue) that broke down the first founding chapters, Salamanders was one of the last ones. If you can get you hand on the older Armageddon campaign codex they were one of the featured chapters in that codex/suppliment

NIck Kyme is working on a Sallies book which should flesh out them a lot
see his blog: http://www.nickkyme.com/2008/06/salamanders.html .

I agree that they are a criminally under-explored chapter that hasn't exactly recieved much loving in the horus heresy books so far. Why is it always the White Scars, Salamanders and Raven Guard that get the least coverage in the loyalist chapters (the iron hands are almost in this list too)?

I read through one of these threads... i think it was on the process of creating new marines, that the salamanders along with a few other chapters can actually marry with the civilian population due to how close they are tot he civilian population. Thats the only source I have encountered that shows this. I'm just wondering if that is even true

white scars for sure though. I know they haven't recieved any. The Raven Guard have had their share of stories, they're just very underrated, and they really half fast them. The clone incident was one. Along with Shrike and his vicious campaign against the ork. But they should make more

:victory:thats not really enough information really. All that info is really already known. I have already considered that website a blasephemous crappy website. Of course, no offense to you Flood_Reaper. I'd recommend it if you wanted to know any information other of than from the imperium. Most of the info on the astartes especially is crap. Apparently they forgot it was suppose to be more of an informative site, but instead they tried to be somewhat immature and bend facts. Thank you though Flood_Reaper.

After a little research I have found out these facts.
1. Salamanders had a great love for the emperor. I wouldn't say their love extended to that much like the Word Bearers. But they did cherish him to the extent that GW and a lot of the websites have made it so apparent.
2. Their geneseed was suppose to make them black, not their homeworld. As their homeworld was diverse.
3. Though not actually known for their pyschcic powers, they actually have a great deal amount of powerful pyschers. These guys are the real deal. So they arn't mere librarians.
4. They are slow and a little smaller than most space marines. But the fires of their world have made them really tough. Comparidably to the Death Guard in many respects.
5. Previous edditions have said that the Salamanders were lost in the warp and basically had half their chapter fucked up by the warp. But the truth has extended that they were infact screwed when the four legions on the "Drop Site Masacre" turned on them. Estimates say that only 3 or 4 survivors including the primarch survived that.
5. They favour close range shooting. They like the feeling of shooting the fuck out of their enemies with their melta weapons but also like to see them screaming. They favour the thunder hammer.
6. Most of their armour and weaponry is chapter and hand crafted. Their craftsmenship is better than that of the Mars, and extraordinary, that every weapon even bolters are often treated as trophies by other races, chapters, and military componets of the emyream. ( one evident thing that actually made me believe this fact was in one of the books of the Heresy... I can't remember but it was one of the primarchs that refussed to use Vulkans weapons in fear of losing or damaging the fine craftsmanship. hahaha. fuck! It was either Fulgrim, Ferrus Manus, Horus, or even Angron.
7. One of the few chapters in which its marines live amongst the civilian population. This includes marriage (though it is unclear if they can procreate... and due to all the gene manipulation... impossible)
8. Smallest chapter out of all the legions both traitor and loyal

Thats all for now. They are in the midst of having a salamanders book comming out. Not from the Heresy but still probably very informative.

It's relatively accurate in the sense that Salamanders have fewer companies but compensate with more marines in each company. 7 companies (including scout company) with roughly 128-130 marines in each company.

In a way, they only deviate slightly from the Codex Astartes.

salamanders a breif insite

Hello CKCrawford, ive been playing salamanders for a few years since it was they who got me into 40K. To answer some of your questions on Salamanders history, The're Great craftsman, part of there initiation into the chapter is to become an aprentice to 1 of the SM's, they have seven companies based on the seven great cities on nocturne. the Captain of the 1st company bears the title of Chapter Master while the fire drakes (1st comp) are hes body guard. each Company consists of 7 Tactical squads, 2 assult squads and 3 devestator squads so a total of 120 marines. while the 7th is the scout company with only 6-7 10man squads. there slower than most marines but most reach over 8 feet tall, while the current chapter master Tu'Shun is 8 n a half feet tall. thats as good a sum up as i can think of ive read most of their history in white dwarf Australia no# 274 or on lexicanum.com ( if ive done something wrong by typing the site name in sorry) though theres tons more info on them if you look really hard:eek:k: me out

Don't forget they were one of the few legions that sided with Dorn about the 2nd founding. To be honest I wouldn't be supprised if some of those Salamanders formed up part of the crusade fleets.

About the skin pigmentation, I don't remember where I read it, but the gene-seed is the one that changes the color, it had something to do with protection from some of the elements on Nocturne. According to the older fluff Nocturn didn't have a high gravity, it had a flux gravity, Salamanders were more prone to choosing their steps and actions with great care as they never knew when the gravity would flux. This was also one reason why they never trained many jump troops. Think what would happen if all ove a sudden the gravity increased, just before you landed?

The inhabitants of Notcurn were supposed to be semi-nomadic as well, don't exactly remember the reason why. Salamanders are smiths, not manufacturers, They made weapons, not simply produced them.

Salamander are one of my favorite chapters, also. I t was a very close toss up for me to decide whether to play them or Black Templars. I'm glad that you guys started this topic, it's given me a lot more insight on them. As silly as it may sound, i choose not to play them when I saw that GW had changed the fluff on their skin tone, iirc, in 3rd ed they were black, as in African skin toned, from what I understand now, they have pitch black(color) skin with red eyes. I was seriously like WTF?!

Kind of a petty thing I suppose, seeing as how I can paint em up any way I see fit. but that just kinda got my goat.

Anyway, kudos to everyone posting the hard to find info on these guys.(may have to build a 2nd army, now)

@ Blackyujiro: I completely agree with you. For some reason the whole "Pitch black skin with red eyes" bugs me too. It probably won't stop me from eventually starting an army of them. But still!

Anywho, onto the original topic. Tu'Shan tore into (Or I think somewhere I read he may have decked him) Captain Vineyard of the Marines Malevolent for killing a bunch of refugees/hostages.

I mean if you see a lot of pictures of both models and of the pre-heresy it shows diverse skin tones. Black, dark brown, tan, and even white. I tend to just paint them diversly. I really tend to get disapointed at GW when they just turn their facts and fluff backwards. Otherwise, I would have to say that out every other creative color scheme, the salamanders have the best "possible" color scheme. With just the normal black and green they are okay. But the flame designs make them fricken awesome.

If they ever decided to make new rules for them, they should have statistics very similar than to the death guard and yet different.
Ws Bs S T I A W Sv Ld
4 4 5 4(5) 3 1 1 3+ 8

Special Chapter Rule (Master Craftsmenship)= Salamanders weapons are all respectively craftsmen and every weapon they have is made into a piece of perfection. Any roll of 1s is a re-roll

I try not to make such fluff to absurd. So please give me ideas. The points would obviously be higher due to the fact that their are so few Salamanders. Maybe 20 or 21 pts each. I made them toughness 4(5) because of their living conditions in their homeworld. They also look a lot stronger relatively than other marines so i also gave them a strength five, or maybe a furious charge.

Yeah, and let the Sgt's all carry signums, The "Cult Terminators" would be a mixed lot where they would be slightly cheaper (to represent the forge ability), only allow Hvy Flamers and TH/SS as the special options for the unit..

Ya know, just like in Armageddon
BTW Bring Back Xavier!!!

master crafting everything would be to expensive. I thought about it though. I thought that to make it cheaper i would make it more of a trait quality like the older imperial guard codex with "sharp shooter." rerolling those ones. by useing "master-craftsman skill" or something of that sort.
