Hello everyone. I've been looking for alternatives to GW paints and was wondering if anyone painted with paints not specifically desinged for minis? I've been looking at americana paints as their page says it can to used on metals and plastics. Anyone have any advice or suggestions? Thank you all in advance for your responses.

You should be alright as long as you are using acryllics, and water them down sufficiantly. But you may run into some uneven coverage issues. Paints specifically formulated for miniature paint have much finer pigment particles than normal acryllic paint, making it easier to thin them for work on a smaller scale.

If you are not wanting to go with Citadel paints I would recommend reaper or vallejo paints. They are more cost effective in my opinion and have a wider range of colors as compared to GW's line.

Yeah you can go with any acrylic paint reallly. Since they are sold in larger portions than standard miniture pain you may want to thin them done and make a paint pot at a time so the consistency will be there.

I've used Delta and Americana paints, and they work quite well. Hell, I've even used "craft paint" (Mostly black) from the dollar store, and found it quite good for fine lines as it was watery...
