Every couple years, I get the itch to do an Imperial Guard infantry army, and this time, I think I'm going to actually follow through. With the emphasis on movement and cover in 5th, I have these very distinct images of troopers huddling whatever cover they can find, and firing their lasguns desperately at whatever's headed their way. It's not the same picture I get with the Space Marines, who dive headfirst into the foe and let their faith and their power armour carry the day. This is half of one of the squads that will form the first of the Infantry platoons I'm planning. The whole army is going to have a very street fighting appearance, I think. I may eventually make this an ongoing projects thread, because I do intend for it to actually be completed. While the Reaver Titan is my "admin challenge" project, I'm thinking I might just hold myself to the same deadline for these guys, since I do work rather fast. Let me know what you think!

Wow...looking extremely good. Only two things to suggest...the meltagun looks like maybe it could use a little more paint to break up the silver metallic. Maybe a few details and some weathering on the barrel? And the base rims...I painted mine grey for grey bases for a while, but it got to the point that I just couldn't stand it. So I switched to Graveyard Earth. Could be a matter of personal taste, though.

Other than that, outstanding work, as usual :good:

Yeah, I'm not really happy with the bases either, to be honest... but I don't know how else to keep that urban look. I use Khemri Brown on most of my bases, since it covers evenly and quickly and it's a similar tone to Graveyard Earth-- but it doesn't really look right with the urban basing. I tried a couple different things, and this was the best result... but I may go back and redo the bases with a finer gravel than the medium grey ballast I used, or maybe even a blackish flock, and paint street marking type things on it. Definitely something to play around with-- any ideas are always appreciated.

I always liked the look of bases painted with road markings...

Other than that, the bases I do are usually Scorched Brown with drybrushes of Graveyard Earth, Codex Grey and a little Skull White...they come out looking fairly urban, but definitely darker than using a grey basecoat.

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Nice work, as always, TSoH.

An idea I'd like to share with you: back when I played enough Necromunda for an entire town's-worth of people, I used to sort of 'urbanize' the bases a bit by generously applying a black ink wash to the sand/ballast/whatever.

I think it looked pretty good, a lot like asphalt, sometimes.

Thing is, you gotta not be stingy with the ink/wash, as the basing material can really suck it up if it's not "sealed on" with watered-down white glue, like i do with mine.

Keep up the solid work, my friend.
