I think I already know the answer for this. But if I'm wrong let me know. Chaos spawn are classified as beast but are also slow and purposeful. They are also mindless which I guess in 5th ED would be rage. So they must roll 2 d6, take the highest and move to closest visible enemy unit. I understand that part. Here's the part I'm not 100% clear on. Being beast they gain fleet, 1d6. But beast assault at 12 inches. So, they roll 2d6 take the highest and double the result when determining assault range. I know its in the rule book and one can figure it out by putting the different rules together. I just need to know if there are other rules out there that say otherwise.

Ah ok, I don't know about that Spawn, I only know about the Daemon's Spawn. Sry. The Spawn that I know move in the way you describe, but I don't know if yours have any other special rules. P76 in the BRB says that S&P units always move as if they are in difficult terrain, so roll assault distance as a Beast assaulting through cover.

A model which is slow and purposeful always moves as if it were in difficult terrain. Spawns are also beast, meaning they have fleet, which is not slowed by difficult terrain. It also means that they can assault at 12 inches, if you roll a 6. This means that they have the potential to assault at 24 inches. Have you ever wondered why they were deployed as fast attack. So if you dont know, now you know.
