I'm going to read that next!

Me and my brother were talking about how to paint my realm of battle, and he is trying to get me to do it red for mars, since he is obsessed with basing his models with mars like terrain. He tried luring me in mentioning this, since I play Necrons. It didn't work, green it will be.

Are you sure that you have your facts straight? I've not read the book, but the Enslaver Plague, which wiped out the Old Ones, and forced the Star Gods (C'Tan) into hibernation, lest they starve and die, was what I'd always heard had caused them to go into their Dormancy, rather than the Emperor.

The Emperor is seen as the Omnissiah, by the AdMech, but should this Machine God, the Void Dragon, rise, it's theorised that everything with a Machine spirit can be controlled by the Dragon, and those of the AdMech who follow the Omnissiah (i.e. all) will follow him, causing greater devestation to the Imperium than the Heresy, as the full AdMech will go into revolt, the vast supplies they hoard will be lost, and It'll be down to the Man Portable Weapons, and finally Combat Knives, as fuel and similar resources, from the complex weapons, to the bare munitions necessities, will eventually run out.

The Emperor did face and defeat the Dragon on earth and entombed him on Mars. The Dragons influence is what inspired the dreams of the people on Mars to create technology and what made them become the Mechanicum.

If the Mechanicum did go into revolt and were wiped out then the Salamanders would become a Space Marine chapter dedicated to running weapons building classes and technology seminars.

Or maybe the Imperium would stop being so superstitious and learn out to steal all of the technological ideas from the Tau, Crisis Marines and Guard with Pulse Rifles would kick everyones arse.

I guess that's information is in Mechanicum, then? I find it funny how the Enslaver Plague was what caused the C'Tan to hide, but one of them made their way to earth, survived for Millions of Years until the Humans come to power, while the Eldar Iron Knights are still hunting for it, and the Enslaver Plague still running strong, while it gradually gets weaker.

And then just out of nowhere, th Emperor turns up, and decides to keep it as a pet. And no-one knows anything about it. Sounds like Mechanicum may just well be a waste of time, and that someone's gone and thought "I know what will make a good story, bugger canon".

SPOILER

he didnt put much information in when he said the emp killed it. the dream the girl saw in the book put him as a knight that killed a dragon, woop dee friggin do, but it's more of a symbol than actual events IMHO. The beginning of the book is when the emperor first comes to mars on his ship and makes a pact with the mechanicum. anywho my guess is the dragon was already there but the Emperor sealed it for good and that is why there is a person who watches over it to keep people from trying to save it. it caused all of the wars that tore across mars before the emperor's arrival and by him silencing it he "saved" mars. who knows, i know there is a hidden meaning but it's early in the morning and im tired. lol

SPOILER

actually the Emp didnt kill it. the Emp even says he doesnt have the power to kill it but he CAN keep it chained up, which is what he did.

im curious though, that virus that ravaged the mars' technology was that from the dragon or was that some chaos virus?
