Thoroughly enjoyable game of X-Wing and a nice baptism of fire for my new X-Wing gaming table made for less than £5

So what was learned? I had never run a swarm of TIE's that large before and was the first time I had used an Interceptor having picked up the Imperial Aces box on Saturday so it was a bit of a learning curve. My initial placing of Howlrunner could have been better and I missed a few good opportunities to use Swarm Tactics a lot more.

I also had a few manoeuvre errors, clipping asteroids, colliding with ships etc and the swarm became too dispersed to really bring a lot of concentrated fire on the Rebel ships and so the firing was often sporadic. When you are facing ships with shields and only rolling two attack dice, you need to ensure you have focused fire.

But it was an absorbing game and demonstrated just how awesome X-Wing is. Tawa mentioned just how different it was to be gaming, straight out of the box, no army books, no consulting of charts and rules.

A swarm of TIE's that size looks fecking intimidating from across the board!

The collisions with the asteroids still have me chuckling. I hope the pilot of TIE 33 has hosed out his cockpit by now! :puke:
Those first couple of rounds were a touch slow, with the already mentioned pot-shots here and there. The TIE's natural agility really seemed to be a boon at range, but the X-Wing's hefty firepower of four at close range really makes a mess of the unshielded Imperials.
I found the Ion turret to be less than the awesome I had hoped for, although I'll keep it in that list purely on the merit of it's 360 fire arc. :good:

Bounty Hunter 2 misjudges a turn and flies off the board. :shok:
And this boys and girls is why you need to practice flying large based ships. The Bounty Hunter that left the battlefield was in perfect condition and would have easily brought down the Falcon in the next few turns. One slight lack of judgement cost me the game ultimately.

It was the first time that I had run the list with two Firesprays and it was a definite learning experience. Howlrunner was a good choice as the synergy of Swarm Tactics and her ability to allow a friendly ship to re-roll an attack dice has the potential to be very destructive.

I intend to use an AI programme to help me with running the list in formation.
