Well, seeing as I am going through my chaos army and finishing up models that were unfinished and fixing ones that were chipped etc, I decided that my bloodletters, which I painted nearly 5 years ago, needed an update. So far the skin is all that is done. Thoughts anyone?

Work In Progress.

One thing I would like to get some feedback on is the hair. I know I can paint it up to look like flames but I am not sure if that is want I want to do or even the best thing. Any other suggestions come to mind guys?

well, if their skin is a molten something, why not their hair? you could do some intense orange in the crevaces and fade into very thin black on the highest ridges and say it's molten mithril or something. Also, fluff wise, if they are that hot, there should be black burn marks on wooden handles where their hands are, or it's a metal haft, then it should be warming up and maybe glowing a little?

You could have some fun with lighting effects on these guys...

EDIT:

On the flip side, you could do a chalky color as if it's the remnant of carbon cooling down after being an ember... like when you see embers in a fire, they glow and are white afterwards? they're kind of dark right now, and imo they need a little bit of lighter contrast. That'll make the darker parts darker and the model as a whole easier to look at. Grey might also symbolize how old and ancient these evil being are (can be) ?

No flaming hair! It would be an overdone effect if you did.

The skin looks great.

The hair should be a dingy, dark, soddy brown. Perhaps incorporate some dried blood brushed in it if you can make it look nice.

But dang thats looking good WL.

Good work WL! Love it. I agree with Anphicar, no molten hair, would ruin an outstanding model. Either his idea of dark brown, or you could do just black and highlight it up to grey. Either would be great.

Nice, makes for a great change from the normal red bloodletters. Have to agree
with anphicar and blkdymnd about the hair, although flaming hair could work with
the standard bloodletters scheme I think it would really distract with your molten
look. Daker should look better, although using to much grey could also distract
a lott.

Darker is what I am thinking. Going to keep the metal of the weapon a dark and ashy looking metal (which will be glowing where the hand touches the metal). Same with the bracers, very dark and dirty looking, almost black. I agree that the flaming hair would ruin it, just really not sure how to go about it as it is such a large portion of the model and unless I get it just right it will ruin the entire thing.

Slow and sure, that's the way to go :D

Use a dark, dirty brown with lots of depth. My opinion, o course.

What ever you do though I'm sure it will be quality.

Such vibrant color so far. It looks great! I'd try to keep the hair more on the subtle side. Let the hide draw the eye.

Well here is a pic of the hair done in grey, ashy colours. Not sure how I feel about it so I would dig some feedback. Currently thinking that a VERY thin wash of brown or chestnut ink would be a good idea to dull it down a bit. A black wash would just mute it too much but a dark brown may be good. Anyway, have a look and lemme hear your opinions :D

I was thinking earlier that auburn hair with minimal highlights might look good. Maybe even with flaming orange streaks showing in just a few places.

Here it is with the dark brown inkwash. I may have used a bit too much ink and will ahve to 'ash' it up again.

Also, you guys think I should go with bone for the horns and spikes or something different. And in case you are wondering, I am kinda diggin the whole 'see how your suggestions turn out' thing that is going down here :)

I acutally think it should be a darker, yet deeper brown, if that makes sense.

I would make it all a dark brown (dark enough as to not think it was lack) then "ash it up" a bit.

Three new pics. This is the mostly finished paint job however, I need to do something different with the horns/spikes I think. The bone look doesn't fit in my mind. Ideas anyone?

Now for a little experiment. What do you guys think of the bit of cotten around each foot? Does it look like smoke rising or no? If so, should there be more or less of it?
