I lost my battle with willpower and succumbed to the beauty of the new eldar jetbikes. So much more classy than the old ones.

So I decided to make a small force of Windriders.

Here is an early shot, with one of them modified into an autarch using parts from the autarch kit I bought for another reason. I don't have any plans to include this guy in my army.

And here is the entirety of the first squadron, mounted on bases and undercoated ready to paint. As well as the farseer I intend to have join them.

I'm not sure yet if I want to have warlocks in all my units or just a few in a unit of themselves. I don't have much experience in using the eldar in this edition.

Did some basecoating today. My test model was a horrible abomination that I won't show here, though it did teach me that I can't paint eldar the way I'd paint necrons.

In the end, I settled on Saim Hann.

And I even decided to torture myself by doing fancy white patterns in different variations across the squadron. These were some of the simpler ones, and this is as far as I got. The more elaborate ones I will attempt at the beginning of my next session.

Painting white is easier now than it used to be, but still a bitch of a thing to do.

So these assholes have been bugging me from my desk for a few weeks now. Fortunately the weekend offered me the chance to catch up with some friends and do some painting, so I was able to work a bit more on them.

I realized that I started the white prematurely, there were black stripes that needed painting first, then the white would overlap those.

I tried to keep each one unique which sadly means a few are less impressive than the others.

But all in all, once the unit is finished and alongside several others it shouldn't look half bad for a tabletop force.

The gist of it is there for the time being, in time I'll add a bit of grey to the black for definition, and maybe even some pale bone to the white so it doesn't look so bland. I knew going into this that it would take some doing and a lot of trial and error, so their current standard does not bother me all too much for now. :)

Played with the white today, using pallid wych flesh, sepia shade and then more pallid wych flesh to make it look a little more battleworn and less flat.

Also toyed with the rest of the colour scheme, adding some bronze and blue.
