Cureently I am a deamonhunter w/ inducted IG player, but I am thinking of starting up another army and am unsure of which army I should choose. I want to do something different than I currently do and I also want to tryout another army so I can learn more of the rules. I would like it if people post ideas of what army would give me a very broad expansion that is different than what I currently have and please tell me why the army is FUN.

Ok. Here goes.

SM- A small model count, more $$ for you. Lots of really tough dudes in easy-to-paint power armor. Limited color palette means ease of painting.

Tau-A medium model count, some $$ for you. Lots of moderately tough troops, very good at range. Battlesuits, Hammerheads, Seeker Missiles. Easy to paint unless you go Kroot.

Eldar- A medium model count, some $$ for you. Lots of cheesy (READ: CHEESY) toys to protect your not-so-tough-without-psychic-powers pointy eads'. Easy to paint due to usual two-color-scheme.

DE- A medium-to-low model count, however, ungodly expensive. REALLY kick-ass CC units backed up by Fast skimmers and cheese toys. Lots of fun when you realize you have twice as many nasty CC monsters as he does.

Tyranids: High HIGH model count, low $$ for you. A massive gribbly horde able to smush pretty much anything. Infantry able to take on tanks...Huzzah! Backed up by equally gribbly monsters that are hella fun to build. Just make sure you have paint for teeth.

Necrons: Low model count, more $$ for you. Gauss weapons able to destroy anything, reallly. Massively powerful weapons mounted on light skimmers, and Lords with lots of kool toys (Read Resurrection Orb). And the Monolith, the second best tank in the game.

IG: High model count, not much $$ for you. Tons of Heavy Gunz availible. Tanks Tanks Tanks! Also, watch out for the Plastic Valkyrie (which of course is unconfirmed but expected none the less.)

I gotta go. I'll finish this later.

The armies I don't want are SM, regular eldar, and IG since grey knights are the best marines out there  and I already have a bit of a guardsmen army. While Eldar just seems to fragile for me

You seem like a vet player so the forgivingness of Chaos wouldn't be a factor in your decision. Plus side to chaos is plastics with all kinds of detail and a wide diversity of directions you can take an army. I keep hearing rumors of a new Dark Eldar codex so patience my be a virtue here. My friend plays DE and they are as fragile as eldar if you don't play them right. On the other hand played Right Dark Eldar are freaking sick. Tau would be an easy paint, I think, but would keep you pretty much a "shooty" army with little HtH capability. With Tau this is at least all I have seen. There may be a way to balance them better but have yet to see it. Maybe someone can correct me on this.

I am kinda leaning towards chaos, but I put out a poll and I will do the army that people vote for the most in the next 15 days. In advance thanks for the help choosing.

*Edit* And as I build the army I will post pics of it and ask advice on how to go about choosing models since I have no experience with the army I will be playing

I really think that the Dark Talons would be an awesome project, but of the options listed, the Tau fit your needs most.

I like the orks because if I lose (which i havent yet :victory: ) I still have fun. I dont take my Orks super seriously, were as it might be smarter just to shoot and ingore one unit, i would rather use my WAAAGH and charge in to another unit :eek:k: . Orks are just to much fan and customizing ork vehicles is just a dream come true :victory::shok::victory::eek:k::so_happy:

Orks are by far the funnest army to build and play. It is also an army that can be tailored to your play style. So you can do a fast mobile army or footslooger army of all foot troops or a combination in between. Plus lots of modeling possiblities.
Chaos is also good but is a little more serious army. With orks even when you lose you could walk away laughing at the fun you had.

Tau strikes me the most in that list, as they are pretty easy to paint in theory, and have a variety of units, but one would assume you are a bit used to sitting back and shooting with your current army, so perhaps Tau would be easy to learn?

eldar are pretty broad, with the aspect warriors providing variation to a common troop core
the fast vehicles and heavy support also provide good options for an army.
go with what tactics suit you. there have been some great options posted by others on this thread!~

Dark Talons all the way mate. Who doesn't want a army that has a whole forum behind it and in support of it. Any body gives you any grief whatsoever you can send them here and in the words of my good freind firewold "we'll their eyes".

Ok so there was a little paraphrasing but I'm sure he would say that.

Of all the choices you listed, Chaos is in some ways the closest to your current army (ok, tactically Tau probably isn't a million miles from IG either).

BUT chaos allows you the opportunity to build two really opposing forces - DH v Tau? DH v nids? DH v Orks? Why?

But DH v CSM - there's a grudge match for ya. If you're into the fluff at all, I'm sure within a week you'll be going "hang on, right, Demonlord Xlorgnargl and Inqusitor Dexterbixit have a history going back to the incident on Gnopfos VI where the Demonlord stole the Inquistors sandwiches..." etc etc.

I always think stuff like that is one of the most fun aspects of the whole game (not the theft of sandwiches. That's an extremely serious business). So if you just want any old army that's different to the one you've got, go Ork (yeah! Orks!) - but if you want one you can integrate into the fluff of your current army, and vice versa, go chaos (and then try to persuade the rest of us to allow your fluff to seep back into the Dark Talons).

(Can fluff seep? Probably Tzeentcho-Nurglised fluff can.)

Good luck with it all anyway! Hope you find an army you like...

Chaos first with Tau a close second.

Chaos because they can be just about anything you want, from SAFH to in your face H2H. The options for Chaos are extremely varied and the new models for it are the shit.

Tau on the other hand is an entirely different method of playing than DH/IG. Tau are a highly mobile yet extremely shooty army and are a very fun army to play.

Personally, I play them both equally as much but Thousand Sons are the king to me so Chaos will always get the nod from me :)

It depends on how serious you want, I voted orks for the fun side that they have, havent seen the new rules myself but they can cause you as many if not more more headaches than your opponent, otherwise I would say nids, I find IG even when inducted a shooty army (so Tau would be pretty much the same) and chaos is still a MEQ to me and you know most of that from Daemonhunters. I think orks would give you the biggest difference from what you have listed (imho).
