I was looking at the who loves 5th edition thread and I got to thinking what people loved from second edtion.

For me, I liked my terminators having such an awesome save, 3+ on 2 dice. Graviton guns were another favorite. Assualt rules were also another thing I liked. Having several opponents attack you simultaneously and still managing to beat them all ... if you were lucky or an evisor assassin (I had one take on 10 genestealers in a single combat and defeat them all).

What does anybody else remeber love/hate from 2nd edition?

It has to be Virus grenades, they were awesome, I remember one game where I equiped every character that could have them with one and killed my Ork opponent on turn 1.

Also insane army lists, what would be classed today as all heavy support etc

The 41st millenium looked a lot more brutal back then

the interesting thing I find about posts like this is that the guy with the 10 genestealers probably wasnt so happy about things
He probably wasnt to happy but you didnt charge into comabt with an evisor with lots of models. They had combat drugs which let you get an extra attack for every opponent you had. You either went in with a single heavy character or shot them to bits.

although I can't say much ruleswise, I have to say the models, I've built some 2nd ed models and painted them, and enjoyed them so much more than modern models, theres just something about them thats better.

A few things that have already been mentioned like sustained fire dice, and wargear cards like vortex grenades and combi weapons, which were so much cooler than your 5th edition counter parts as you could choose which weapon you were going to use every turn, none of this counts as plasma or melta for one turn, you could even fire both the bolter and the additional weapon at the same time although doing this made them less accurate. Also strategy cards were pretty cool. As much as I enjoy being nostalgic though I wouldn't want to go back to 2nd edition though.
