Okay so I thought I should ask this question as my current army painter brush is wearing a bit thin

What brushes do you use and why?

I use army painter brushes after previously giving up on the cruddy GW ones, however now that my current one is starting to lose all of the bristles I am looking for another to rely on. I have heard that newton and winsor brushes are the way to go but after looking at the price tag I am not so sure about getting any. Does anyone know where I can pick them up for relatively cheap

Generally I just go to the local Michael's and buy the best brush I can find for a decent cost. I do know some people swear by this or that brush but I have yet to see it make a difference provided you don't buy brushes that are utter shit.

Agree here. Windsor and Newton brushs are generally what I go for myself, also from the local Michaels.

I get my brushes from the Range, and will normally get Windsor and Newton, although not series 7 as they are way to expensive. For rank and file painting I cant see the need to pay so much money.

I just bought some decent brushes from a local art and craft supplier.
Cant remember what brand they are. Nothing expensive, but not cheap crap.
No complaints with them so far.
Bought a 2, a 0, and a 000. Rarely ever use the 000 though. Use the 0 mainly and the 2 occasionally for larger areas.

I've recently been using these :

they're pretty cheap and paint really nice, i've also always prefered the ergonomic triangular shape to the thin round handles you get on most brushes. Also i use cheapy brushes to apply washes and rough basecoats as very thin paints and washes tend to easily work into your ferrel very quickly, this will really screw your brush up and all the sable will start to break off and fray before long so always use an expendable brush for "messy" jobs
i find that my good brushes last about 3 times as long just by not using ink/washes with them, hope this helps
