Hi, I'm thinking of returning to playing WHFB but I was wondering I've read a lot of things about big changes in the latest editions and I was wondering can someone outline the key ones in general? I'm going to be getting the rule book soon when I get the cash but I just wanted to know what I'd be returning to with my empire army, seems high elves have finally got their turn in the limelight?

Ah, can you pre measure to, read that somewhere? Anyway sounds ok I guess I was never a tactical genius tbh so it may favour me a bit. I never liked cavalry either, but I do have like 10 empire knights so hope I can still use them ok.

empire knights are some of the best- cheap enough to field in large enough numbers to make them really good. You can pre-measure anything and everything... at any time.. for any reason.

Even mortars etc? Hmm they've really dumbed this game down.

Sounds a lot more user friendly, well at least to this user lol my major flaw before was ranges so the ability to pre measure is a big plus to me. I understand about the knights and it makes sense, it makes them what they are there for, to bolster a unit, not to single handedly break a big unit which they used to do. All in all sounds good and I'm definately leaning towards returning.

All I really need to do now aside from getting the updated rules and army book is to decide on what province to paint my empire, I never got around to it, only under coated them lol.

Is steam tank a must for empire? I prefer not to use one, seems out of character for one to show up tbh lol.

Can ranged troops only fire the first rank still?

Some ranged weapons can fire in an extra rank if the unit does not move

Ah great finally, that was one thing that annoyed me in the former rules, having single lines of handgunners etc just looked wrong.

I didn't realise till just now that chargers don't get first strike any more, no wonder everyone was talking about High elves.

It especially makes Empire swordsmen a lot better to.
