Wasn't sure where to put this so it ended up here.

Does anyone play warmachine and if they do can they give me some thoughts on the game. It looks interesting and something I can start pretty easily and cheaply (compared to warhammer).

I want to know stuff like...how are the armies in terms of customizing and adding your own unique looks to an army paint and model wise.

How does the game compare to 40k in terms of style, play length of time.

or any other hints, advice or thoughts you could give

thanks guys

Its ok.

Pros: Models are nicer and cleaner and all the rules for the unit comes with the unit. No need to buy codexes.. core rules are available with the basic box set. Fantastic FAQ updates on their website. Rules make a lot more common sense. Growing fan base. Games are smaller. No "FOC" requirements (tho certain units require others to be used). Games usually go quicker.

Cons: All metal models. Game is still new so might find it hard to get a game going. Very complicated rules interractions (this is off set by the constant FAQ update). Very few "Universal Rules".

All in all its a better game system.. little more complicated in areas and a little less in others.

You don't really customize anything in the game you just buy units, so one unit of Revenants is pretty much the same as any other unit of Revenants. Now there is one exception to that with Unit Additions that you can buy seperately to be included with the original unit but there isn't wargear or weapon changes. Conversions on models have to be okayed with tournament directors before hand generally but paint scheme's are pretty much up to you on how you want to paint them.

All the factions play differently even beyond the differences in units. Mennoth are the religous fanatics they don't have as many 'military' type units as Cygnar but make up for it with lots of fire. Cygnar are your typical 'good' guys and pretty much have a bit of everything. Khador are big brutes, slow and lots of armor but pack a nasty punch. Cryx are your evil Necro types whou use captured souls to power their jacks, faster then most other jacks and harder to hit but less armor when you do get hit.

Allot of warmachine play is finding combos between units and abilities that you like and abusing/capitalizing on them.

I tried a game of it a couple years ago and remember it as being fun. The models are staggering in their looks too.
