Random thought. I know the Empire has a comparable "profession" to that of an Inquisitor in 40k: The Witch Hunter. Well they are both based on the Spanish bastards who liked burning people at the stake for such religious heresies as being left handed by anyway all the Empire ones seem to be "Puritans", is there a radical strain to them?

Or would that be generally taken by rogue wizards?

There's nothing stopping them being radical... so yes. Each witch hunter has their own history and character and you really can't lump them into broad groups.

The empire is filled with a mixture of gods, as long as you dont pray or involve yourself with any of the outlawed religions its all cool (sort of) with them.

Its not just what god you support either, mutants, non sanctioned wizards, some sanctioned wizards and even if you look at them funny - they will burn you.

Also they have almost complete authority on who to burn - the more important you are, the more evidence you need. End of the day they are only human and majority of them are just as corrupt (polically) as anyone else.

That's kind of the definition of a radical though isn't it? Involving yourself with the outlawed, turning it against itself. Deamon Weapons, Hosts, using Chaos Cults to destroy each etc The end justifies the means.

The Ulrika the Vampire novels did contain a story line that kind of blurred the lines between puritan Witch Hunter and a more pragmatic approach.

It did seem to be a particular exception tho' with the larger body of Witch Hunters being "burn first and purge anyone who asks questions" types
