So ive been playing for a few months now...and i gotta say some parts of this game can get me so heated that i almost cant stand it. One of the people i started with barely understands the rules of his own army (seriously i know it better then he does) so im just curious did any of you have to deal with frustrations and how did you over come them? I truely enjoy the game and can accept when i get my ass kicked (which hasnt happened in the last month thanks to many prays towards the blood gods) but i just want to know i dont just have temper problems... any feed back on the matter would be fantastic 8)

So in a few months he doesnt completely know what his army is/does? Some people it takes longer to learn things. Me? I had to have the IG explained to me like I was a 5yr old. Then add the BRB on top of that? Yeah, the guy who taught me had to talk real slow. I've only been doin this a coupla months, but that doesnt mean after a couple of months your an expert. Relax, take your time, and let him learn at his own pace. If it's too slow for you, then go to your local store and find a game to play. Your more likely to find a vet there who will know his/her army enough to give you the challange your lookin for.

Well, I think we all get those moments when some new guy does not know a shit about the army he is using, and that usually gets kind of frustrating, especially if you know far more than him just by reading the White Dwarf or heck, even a few words on the Internetz! At least I get a kind of bad temper when that happens, but I try to hide it, and slowly but surely try to tell him that it is like this and like that, but not in the way that "Fuck man, those boyz suck you know, you cant compare them to my Grey Knights, and your Warboss would get slaughtered by my uber Grand Master!" (Even if it is true  ), a bit slower maybe, but in the end he would kind of get to that point by himself...

And about getting your ass kicked, I dont know, cause it has never happened to me, my Grey Knights are to cool for that! But one thing, you are praying to the wrong god! The Emperor is the only true answer! And you never get your ass kicked!

So no, I dont think you have a temperament problem or anything...

I'm usually faced with an opponent who doesn't know the rules for his own army.
And he's been playing them for years.

Blood Angels. Red thirst rolls. He forgets this rule EVERY game. Even though the red sparkly ones have had this rule in some form for YEARS. Even better is the trying to "flat out" move his rhinos 24" in the movement phase. FAST vehicles get to move 18" (no more). 24" is reserved for flat out FAST SKIMMERS (and turbo-boosting bikes/jetbikes).

Eldar players who forget they have fleet (and that it means more than JUST an extra d6 movement these days).

Just grow a thicker skin, and practice the mantra.
"Learn your fricken army rules, noob."

It annoys me when I ask to look at something in their Codex and they start saying really quickly 'Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, Eternal Warrior, yeah, definitely has Eternal Warrior, yeah, yeah.' And then I say 'No, they don't. It's written here, look.'

Midnight

EDIT: Oh, and when people make up special rules for their army. GRRR THAT ANNOYS ME. 'Berzerkers have this rule that means they charge 20', it's called Bloodlust.' *I look up rule in Codex and deny the existence of the rule 'Bloodlust'* 'Oh, yeah, yeah, I remeber, it was in the last Codex, sorry, haven't played 5th very much.' *I say 'Alasdair, my friend, we've been playing 5th once every two or three months for the past 3 years.'* 'Oh, fair enough. Now, what weapons do Obliterators have?'. *It's in your Codex, not mine'* 'Oh yeah...'

Grrrrrr.....

Hate to say it, but why not just TELL your opponent he missed his shooting phase? I usually try to remind my opponents about which units have shot and which haven't as I'd like the same courtesy in return... And Heavens knows I've forgotten enough things on the battlefield.

I've had trouble with one particular player at the local game shop where I play. He's normally a nice guy, but he gets easily confused with the rules of his codex. Of course, there's a good reason for this: English isn't his first language. He's Russian.

He can speak fine, albeit with a thick accent, but he has trouble with the subtleties of English, making interpreting his codex tough, especially since it's the Witch Hunters codex, which has some strange and vague rules to begin with.

Someone older than 12 and whose main language is English, however, has no excuse. Tell them to read the codex from start to finish once more, and then try again.

I think the learning curve is different for everyone... There are lots of pages of rules and it's hard to learn them all... So there is an element of compassion and understanding necessary on your part....

As to the other stuff... I have no problem reminding somebody to shoot... I tend to be pretty involved with what's going on the board, so I will be able to notice... then at the end of that phase, I'll remind them. Or if I miss it and they figure it out in the next phase, I have NO problem letting them go back... And I expect them to do the same for me...

Finally, I can't stand it when people pull the made up rules crap... it makes me rage a bit... and I'll call them out, publically... I had a guy at our shop play me a 2K game and he brought 2112 points... After that, I refused to play him without an army list printed out... and teased the hell out of him in front of everyone for a few weeks.... Since then, his lists have been much better.

I remember when my son (Dark Angels) and I (Black Templars) first got back into it he and I were playing a game at the local Battle Bunker about 2 years ago.

This kid comes up and asks if he can join us. We were really there to play a 1 on 1 game but decided to be friendly and allow him to jump in. (I think he was about 15 or so.)

Now, before I go any further, I must remind you that I was just freshly back into the game after a hiatus that dated back to 2nd Edition so yes, I missed a few obvious warning signs here. My son and I were basically trying to learn the rules by playing them out.

So this kid is playing a generic Space Marine force. He starts deploying his army according to the points value each of us were playing. All well and good. Well just about the end of my first turn I commented about how I hoped my Terminators would come in from reserve in my next turn. The new kid: "Oh we're playing reserves? Cool!" and immediately proceeds to start bringing out more models.

(Yes yes I know. I should have caught this.)

So play proceeds and I was actually doing pretty well against him owing to my past experience when at some point I did something that was questionable under the rules. I don't remember what it was but this kid opens up his BRB, finds the relevant page, reads the applicable rule, and I concede that I was wrong. His reply: "I love the rules, don't you?"

(Obnoxious little prick.)

So play continues and at some point he's firing on one of my son's rhinos with bolters.

From the front.

He rolled a 6 for armor penetration. Now everybody knows that a bolter can't penetrate the front of a rhino anyway but he insisted that the AV of a rhino was 10 all the way around. While my son and I consulted his codex to verify that we were right, this new kid had the audacity to reach over, pick up my son's rhino and move it off the table.

(Tasting the irony yet from Mr. "I love the rules?")
(And remember, he's playing Space Marines.)

So I, annoyed, put the rhino back and with the support of a couple spectators managed to convince this kid that a rhino cannot, in fact, be destroyed from the front by a shot from a bolter.

Meanwhile, he claimed that every one of his squads was a Veteran Squad and they all had artificer armor, so whenever I fired on him he was rolling for 2+ AS.

(Yeah, I know.)

Mercifully it was shortly after that that his dad came to tell him it was time to go home. Mind you, he ignored this and kept trying to play, but I refused to roll armor saves when he rolled his shooting since it looked like dad was having enough trouble making this kid listen to him.

I tend to be pretty good reminding my opponent of their rules though recently i'm trying to learn my own as i've still only used 3rd and 3.5....rd/th? edition codexes. My regular opponents however deel that they need all the help they can get and will not tell me if i miss shooting with a unit for example. One game they "forgot" to remind me that i had placed my nurgle rhino and squad on the counter behind me before deployment and i went into the battle more than 300points down.

If i think it's something they should know better or have told them multiple times before i simply won't mention it to them. Hey if he wants his battlesuits to stand in front of my oblitoraters rather than jumping clear then who am i to argue. He won't forget again and if he does i'm pretty sure he won't the third time.

i have always been rather tollrent of kids in the games. I am alos a very sportsmanship like person and will remind people about rules and abilitys that would disadvantage me or stuff they forget to do...to a point. If they keep forgetting i lay it down like they roll for an armour save and an invurable save oon the same person and fail one but did say which was the invunralbe save. If thats the 3rd time they have done that then i will have to say "tough, you take 1 wound".

I don't know every codex and even now and then i have to look up some obcure or underused rules such as tank shocking which still confuses me slightly(hence why i never use it), however i try and help other kids and even let a hand in fantasy whihc i know little about where i can. This is probbaly why perants mistake me for staff so often. :p

I have only seen very good things this far, and you all sound like those kinds of good and honest players that wont take advantage of every damn crack here and there in the rules! You are the kinds of players I would like to play against...

I think we should all take this as an invitation to have a holiday in finland at Doelago's house :). I'll bring the extra dice.
