List as it stands:

NB: 2 Magic Items in this list - Dragonhelm and Blade Standard I took from a provisional list of Common Magic Items someone sent me. The helm gives +1AS and +2 ward against fire attacks, and the standard confers armour piercing. Don't know if they are the proper names, or even proper costings but am pretty sure. Also, is it legal to equip the Sorceror with the helm ontop of the chaos Armour? New rules and all.

Sorc Lord; MoT, DiscoT, Talisman of Preservation, [Dragon Helm, Infernal Puppet]
400 (if the Helm is illegal swap for [BloodoT, Power Familiar] - 410

BSB; MoT, DiscoT, RodoTorm, Sh, Flail/Halberd (thoughts? going with the halberd warriors.)

Warriors x 14 w/ MoT, Sh, Halberd, FC, Banner of Wrath.

This leaves me 364 points to play with. What do you think are the weaknesses of this list (bearing in mind I want this to be pretty competetive), and what would you use the remaining points on?

I don't want to lead you, but my current ideas include another unit of warriors, 2nd Shrine (can't afford 2nd HC - damn!), hero on juggernaught and marauder horsemen, 2 chariots and hounds.

But I would most like to hear what you think the army needs most.

I think that the problem with all your lists, if anything is that you have maybe 45 models on the table. If you want a critical oppinion, rod of torment is a waste, find something better. The chosen are too small, they wont take any shooting or magic. The standard is actually the razor standard. off the top of my head Im not sure if they can ride Disks of Tzeentch and join a unit.

Thanks! Discs are counted as normal cavalry mounts. Has the rules changed on that?

As for low model count - what do you suggest I use the extra points for to counter that best?

I am happy to swap the RoT for Armour of Destiny if you think 4+/3++ is better than 3+/5++?

As for keeping the Chosen alive, how about giving them the Blasted standard, the Razor standard to the Halberdiers, and the Banner of Wrath to the HW+S Warriors?

The changes you suggested for the warriors make sense to keep the chosen alive, I would deffinitly say if you have the points, chaos maruaders. they are cheap but VERY effective for their points. Give them shields and the MoT and they have a 5++ in combat.

How big a unit would you recommend? sink it all on them?

Well I dont know how many points you have, but aim for one unit over 20-30, or maybe a couple of 15, you dont really need them to do anything, just to take hits and distract fire

364 points. thats enough for 66 w/ shields or flails or GW w/ M+SB and MoT, or 55 w/ Shields and LA w/ SB+M, MoT.

go 2 units of 30, 6x5 for combat, or as a slow screen in front of the wocs.

I also would strongly recommend favour of the gods, for 5pt even if you just put it on the chosen its points well spent

I can't see why your giving characters discs though if your going in units, the large base size just hurts your wocs in combat. The sorc lord is good on a disc but should float by the WoCs but not in the unit. The BSB would be fine on foot as he doesn't need to float to various places

Model counts are not comparable. Warriors are elite such that you should count one warrior as equivalent to 2.5 or even 3 marauder infantry. That being said, the warrior and chosen blocks are too small for 8th edition. But warriors and chosen need to be protected from shooting and magic to be effective. A second war shrine is well worth the points spent on it and something should have the favour of the gods item to allow you to manipulate the dice roll on the eye of the gods table.

You really need something to defend against warmachines/heavy artillery shooting. M. Horsemen with fast cav and stuff and the willingness to fly characters on discs out of units are the only two possible choices to attack warmachines.

BTW Chaos sorcerors are allowed to have magic armour, so the helm is legal and a good idea to boost the AS.

well with Warriors in the new 8th ed l have been running them as units of 21 (7 by 3) and just try killing the whole unit rather then making them for example,

a unit of Warriors with MoT, Sh, Halberd, FC, Banner of Wrath.

you can get 29 attacks at S5 and odds are hitting on 3's you will be killing around 16 men vs the old setup which was 20 men (5 by 4) you will get 21 attack's you be killing around 12 for the lost of a rank you kill around 4 more men.

with the war shine l put mine in fount of my warriors or chosen due to the fact he can take an beating (T6 with a 4+ amour save and 3+ Ward) and let him take most of the shooting.

In answer to a few points made:

1. Characters are on discs because - being Tzeenchian - they can get out of town in a hurry if trouble comes their way, or go be useful somewhere else.

2. I have room for favour of the gods on the Sorceror so that is handy.

3. I really like the idea Sybarite; my blocks are 6x3 - might as well see if I can afford 9 more men. They will still keep their kit tho. :)

4. i am happy to drop the Banner of Wrath if folks think 45 points would be better spent elsewhere than d6 S4 24". But the other 2 stay.

So I am looking at adding a 2nd Tzeench shrine (150), and MotG (5), 5 marauder horsmen w/ shields and throwing axes/ javelins (80/75). This leaves 129. Now I can drop the BoW for a total of 174. 156 will buy me 3 extra men in each unit to make 7x3 not 6x3, or I can spend it on more marauder horsemen or a go to disc-er; either sorceror or exalted hero. This guy would go warmachine hunting, and would be quicker than the 2nd unit of horsemen. must admit i am tempted by the extra character over the extra men, but then I like shiny stuff.

Again, thoughts appreciated.

Scratch the disc-hunter idea; would cost 140-160 just ot get them on a disc before items and gifts. So buy the 9 extra men or get more marauders?

Having said that I forgot I can drop the Rod of T. That's another 45 points. means I can get the 9 men and anothe 5 m.horsemen, or the tooled up disco war machine hunter.

I dunnoes!!
