Now other than the huge all powerful Black Legion, what 3 Legions have done the most and cost the Imperium dearly over the 10,000 years.

Dunno about how much damage they have done to the imperium but here is my view on the 3 most terrifying legions:
Night Lords (Enough scare power to make Calgar shit himself)
Iron Warriors (Lets face it all those guns pointing at you does unnerve people)
Death Guard (Every piece of fluff regarding them has tons of flies following their arrival and I would personally hate that and wonder how anyone stands up to it.

World Eaters: Have had two massive invasions that have cost the Imperium massively, and were the first ones into the Imperial Palace.
Death Guard: Nurgle's Plague Feet have infected billions with Nurgle's Rot and Destroyer Hive.
Not really sure for the last one...

The Black Legion
Death Guard
and The Iron Warriors.
Some of you will argue that the Black Legion havn't actually done much in "succeeding", Think about it, 13 Black Crusades, all resulting in Hefty Casualties, It's gunna add up to one Fucking big Medical Bill.
World eaters Literally owned the Armageddon, and they're the most awesome Legion anyway.
The Death Guard have countless mini-stories about Overthrowing small empires in the name of Nurgle.
And the Iron Warriors are famous throughout the galaxy for a reason; They get the job done. Mastery in siege, they must've caused Countless damage.
But if i had to choose the top 3; In order:
The Black Legion

Iron Warriors

and The Iron Warriors.

World Eaters - 1st War for Armaggeddon
Death Guard - Destroyer Hive and Nurgle's Rot
Last one is tied between Night Lords (my favourite Chaos Legion) and Iron Warriors

In a lot of cases when Angron had led his Legion throughout the galaxy I would have said he might have been top three. But now that he just returning from banishment and his legion is all over the place in small warbands I'm not sure what he can do since he probably will just lie there in the eye and do war there as other interventions outside the eye would be beyond him and the other god devoted primarchs. My top three would be
1. Word Bearers- They have the biggest legion naturally than every other legion in which the bond is much more within the legion instead of getting help from other legions. Force organization is the most organized out of all the traitor legions except for perhaps the Iron Warriors. Primarch is alive
2. Iron Warriors- a legion that doesn't do too much but gets a lot from having joining chaos. Pretty organized as well as technologically advanced. As a legion I would have to say that Iron Warriors as a whole aren't corrupted by single dieties. Kroegar the bezerker is stated as being the last devoted Iron Warrior for centuries. Even the Night Lords have a few warriors pulled by chaos dieties. Primarch is alive
3. Alpha Legion: Don't know what the hell is going on with this legion. But I can only assume they are having fun picking on the Imperial convoys. Not sure if their primarch is alive

I really can't disagree too much with people here...but I'll try :biggrin:
Alpha Legion- unlike the other traitors the Alpha Legion didn't flee into the Eye of Terror or Maelstrom, they stayed hidden in the Imperium. They've cause a fair bit of direct devastation but it's their meticulously planned schemes that require less direct involvement from them that are the most potent.
I believe it was the Emperor's Swords who tore themselves apart because for hundreds of years the Alpha Legion had been using subliminal messaging on their aspirants, things like that really emphasise how little is known about what blows against the Imperium's might have in some way been concocted by this traitor Legion.

Alpha Legion- Adding to what Baron Spikey said, on top of being a constant thorn in the Imperium's side they also slaughtered a large force of Ultramarines on Eskrador. They are planning something, who knows if GW will ever tell us what.

Death Guard, Word Bearers, Iron warriors. At first I was thinking about the World Eaters but then again they are very unorganized (even though they are a threat).

I will do the most deadly to me
1. Thousand Sons: these guys are insane. Fearless with unimaginable psychic power, one, if not the, strongest daemon prince/primarch leading them and they are all incredibly intelligent.
2. Alpha Legion: They are sneaky sneaky guys. They win the battle before the battle starts.
3. hmm ima have to go with Night lords: the masters of fear vs the weak moral of the IG = win for the NL

Alpha Legion, even though they are still technically Loyal (read Legion)
Night Lords: They make Guilliman cry Emperor!
