Hello all...

Ive seen some ideas for Warlord Titans floating around, and Ive decided to build one myself. My problem is, I can not find any templates or plans anywhere to accomplish such a task.

What I have been able to decide is taht it will be betwen 28 and 32 inches tall. Yep thats it lol!

So if any of you that are in the know might be able to point me in the right direction or if you have any such templates laying around that you wouldnt mind sharing..I would really appreciate it...

Since when is it illegal to make your own minatures. i think its only illegal to sell them to other people using the 40k brand.

Or is it that instructions to make your own minis are illegal...cause haven't heard that either.

Normally, providing templates for GW models is a way to breach copyright; allowing people a method of circumventing paying for the actual models.

In the case of a model that GW does not actually make, like the warlord titan (to my knowledge) it should be less of a problem simply because GW has no model of their own to sell.



Most of the time though, its best to simply not ask because most of the time the template your asking for can be a breach. (Like asking for the template of a warhound or reaver titan.)

SteelSpectre, I think it actually is illegal for you to make your own models of someone else's product without their consent. You might not be selling them to other people, but you yourself are finding a way around paying the company in question for their product.

It depends I imagine, if you're making a direct copy of a GW model then there might be a problem but if you're making your own variation that pays homage to a GW version but is visibly different to a significant degree then it's just scratch building which GW don't have a problem with unless you attempt to sell it as a Warhammer model.

if you want it don't ask for it here. Like i replied in the PM you sent me, check google. Providing templates is a direct copyright infringement of GW's IP, and providing such information could potentially prompt GW to shut us down. That is the last thing anybody wants.

I don't see why making a model that GW does not should be an issue. technically every single conversion is just that. You are making a model that GW does not make. So if posting a tutorial or such on how to make a Warlord titan is against policy, it would suffice to say that any of the threads showing how someone did their wn conversion would be the same thing. Yet GW seems to have a poilcy that pushes conversions, that being said: A warlord is the 2nd biggest conversion you could do in this game.

Also consider it like this: For years GW published rules for many Ork models, yet they never made any models for them, yet they were allowed in Official games. A Warlord titan is the same thing: GW has published rules to use one, yet have not provided a way to purchase one. A player is left with only one option, to build their own.

Actually before posting this, I contacted GW out of their new offices in TENN, and talked to several people over there. Yes it is illegal to reproduce a model that THEY produce, however models that are deemed modeling challenges (such as the warlord), they encourage the creativity that their community of gamers has when it comes to building these, and it is not illegal to ask or post for assistance in re-creating models such as those. The same applys to the forgeworld models that there is no model for. So I am not infringeing upon copyright notices or practices by posting a mesage asking for assistance in re-creating a warlord.

no,fw makes pictures that vary in scale slightly of the warlord. and you would be correct in the fact that templates of exsisting models are illegal, howevedr not of a non-exsistent model such as the warlord. a tempolate is more akin to a set of blueprints to build something, which every good model starts as.

just so everyone knows.
if youre in the USA. by law. you can make your own models. even if you cast them straight from a mold made using a GW model. you can also make a copy by from a template, though a exact template may itself not be legal (not to sure on that). as long as they are for personal use. once they are sold, it becomes a violation of CR laws. as long as the template varies from the original. like a symbol thats is facing the opposite direction. it may be allowed to be made and traded under USA law. though this last part is case by case, so you made be able to do it once, and get in trouble the 2nd time, or you may get into trouble the 1st but not the 2nd, 3rd, or 12th time.

i would recommend looking up CR laws for your location.
