I read a lot of bad talk about the 1k sons and I understand that some of the other chaos troops would make a stronger army. All that aside I acquired about 40 of them really cheap and want to make a theme army. I really just like the models and know I will enjoy painting them. This is my first delve into the chaos realm (I normally play nids, eldar, or dark angels). I want to use only 1k sons as troops so my question is how can I make these guys hold their own. I understand its not going to be a tournament army. Any advise on tactics behind using these guys or what needs to be in an army to help them would be appreciated. All I have aside from all the sons now is 1 oblit, 8 terminators, 2 chaos sorceress, Abbadon and Ahriman. Thanks for any help.

Firstly, do you own the codex?

I'd go for Ahriman for your HQ as that guy's just plain nasty to your enemies. I mean that he can take down anything. For instance, you have a swarm, I have a template that wounds anything on a 4+. You have a tank I have a strength 8 shot. You have a HQ...you now have a spawn. On top of that you also get a force weapon that rerolls to hit and to wound.O did I mention that he gets to use three of these a turn?:grin:

However, it also depends what point size army you wish to build and something like Ahriman takes up a lot of points in 1500 so a sorcerer of lord-toting-daemon weapon would be a better bet.

RHINOS you Will need rhinos! Your army will be slow so without these you WILL lose every objective game that you ever play. Personally I'd run squads of 9 as this is fluffier and effective. Unfortunately for you I've never thought that TS were army building material. They are really good. But only if your facing space marines :p.

If you do end up facing nids make sure the sorcerer has WoC then do rhino rushes past his units and fire out of the top hatch.

For Heavy Support I'd go for Obliterators as these stay with the theme and are very good at every thing.

Terminators do go well with TS and the fluff. Put them in your lines and use them to counter assualt if the enemy's assualt troops are getting to close to your TSs Or set them up with combi flamers and roast large enemy units.

That said, TS are not fragile and once on an objective will ride out most enemy ordanance due to their invulnerable save.

So a TS themed army isn't really the best way to go but if your set upon them then there are ways to get around their difficulties either by transports or mutual support.

just make sure you get powers on all your aspiring sorcs :D

i really feel 1k Sons are underrated, i dont particualy like Tzeentch, but i do like the overall look of 1k sons

the main things about them is they ARE NOT fast, and they do not charge into combat, becasue they dont do well in combat, they do however get the most Phsycic powers of any other army in Warhammer (considering their troop choices get freaking phsycic powers)

also, ALL their shots are AP3 this means your bolter is going through EVERYTHING but Temri armor, on the downside they are expencive and always move using slow and purposeful but really you shouldnt be doing to much moving with these guys

and the best part of all... you ALWAYS have a 5++ save :3 this means the Melta-spam that has become the norm today aint got shit on you

I do have the codex. I heard Ahriman was overpriced but was going to use him in any game bigger then 1500. Otherwise I got some sorcerers for HQ. The new plastic demon prince coming out could most definitely find a home here (he just needs a fancy hat). I agree with using obliterators. They are pretty bad ass. As far as rhinos for everyone goes its going to take some time and money. I'm going to knock out a 1500pt list and put it in the army section sometime soon. I did read brokenswords extremely comprehensive tactica. One of the best I've seen for any army. Feel free to keep the tactical tips and tricks coming here though. ( Anyone whoever hasn't read brokenswords tactica do yourself a favor and check it out)
