I love the Thousand Sons. The fluff and the whole Egyptian/Persian schtick really resonates with me. So for my Chaos Army I am going with these corrupted marines in blue and gold.

I also love a lot of the vehicles in IA13, mainly from an aesthetic point of view, but some of it because they goddamn rock on the field.

So building an army that encompasses cool models but wants to be at least semi competitive can be a quandary, and I am sure I am not alone in this regard.

Here is what I am currently looking at fielding, with obvious plans to expand my model range further to give me a wider array of options. Bearing in mind the caveat's above, if anyone has comments or criticism on it, please let me know!

Ahriman
Sorcerer - Unmarked, Lvl 2, Combi-bolter, Force Weapon, Melta bombs, Spell familiar, Terminator Armour. One of his disciplines has to be Malefic to unlock second relic

Terminators x 5 - Combi Plasma+Power Axe x 2, Heavy Flamer+Lightning Claw, Combi Melta+Lightning Claw, Combi-Melta+Chainfist

looks sweet, any way to get the maelific ammo on the sicarans heavy bolters?
Actually I have reworked it a bit since then and conversations with friends. And even in the new one there is no chance for the Maelific ammo :(. I do wish that cost was consistent across the board.

Will post modified list up shortly.

Hmmm. I'd probably drop Ahriman, give the sorc MoT, drop one 1kson squad for a squad of cultists, then spend the savings on allied Tzeentchi Daemons--Horrors, a Soul Grinder, and either a Lord of Change or a Herald (in the Horrors) and some Screamers.

It'd also be nice to get MoT on those Termis, and a 3rd Laser Destroyer if possible.

Unfortunately/Fortunately I have a fantastically painted Ahriman from a good friend, and there is no way that I am not fielding him. So here is my revised list.

Yes, I know Possessed are scored, but I really love the models, in particular the Gal Vorbak from FW, so I am going to field some regardless. Ideally they drop in on highlighted targets and go to town. The key will be picking an appropriate target.

I like the crimson slaughter possessed, especially with a chaos lord with prophet of the voices. its an ugly unit to have to deal with despite what people say. how are the termis arriving? might think about dropping a lightning claw to upgrade a power fist to a chain fist with that missing two points.

If I were doing 1ksons I reckon for troops I'd take two units of sons in rhinos (maybe about 7 or 8 strong, each unit) and try to rush them forward to disembark and shoot some guys up. I just can't think of a better use for them to be honest- but at least with the mobility of rhinos they have a good chance of getting a solid round of shooting/witchfire which could cause some damage

From there I think an okay list should be possible. One or two fewer units because of the sons tax but otherwise I wouldn't build a list too much differently. Sorcerer for HQ but otherwise I'd do a relatively normal list, with less requirement for low AP anti infantry shooting (like baledrakes)

Then again, maybe a tzeentch daemon list with 1ksons allies would be preferable. The sons are the focus, the daemons are the manifestation of their powers
