never did get the context of Marvel Thor? is it Norse Thor in modern times?
Yes and No.

Originally he was the Norse god in the everyday world, but he would also have adventures in his mythical Homeland of Asgard. Odin and Loki also featured in the comics quite heavily and would cross over into the real world on occasion.

When they rebooted Avengers a few years ago as 'The Ultimates', they made Thor into a hippie-come-activist, who thought he was a norse god. Everyone else however, assumed he was just another superpowered being - with slight mental issues. They did quite a good job with the is-he/isn't he storyline, and it was one of the more interesting character arcs in the book.

They do seem to be using some of the ideas from Ultimates (Black Nick Fury, Shield as the controlling body, and mostly the same characters), but i think with Thor they will be keen to put the original essence of the character on screen for his first cinema outing. Also the possibly insane angle probably won't play well with Thor as the main protagonist.

The only film im worried about in all this is Captain America, its gonna take alot to convince me that marvel can pull that one out of the bag, the other characters and superheros so far have shocked me on how they have managed to loose the comic campness and be transferred into reality, but even the name captain america makes me cringe and i cant see how they can suit him up and give him that shield without me throwing up my popcorn when im in the cinema.

ooooo screen shot i like. Thats the guy who played george kirk in star trek ? its looking ok i hope they can pull it off. I cant wait for the the avengers movie and its been directed by one of my fav directors joss whedon so extra bonus. In regards to the captain america movie i hope they go the civil war direction too. It fact they should just make a civil war movie it would be awesome. on IMDB it says the guy who played jonny storm in FF is playing cap which is crap because if they ever actually mix any of the marvel world together they would have to recast.

apart from Thor, Iron Man and Cpt. America, who else is in the avengers from other marvel comics
The Hulk and, I think, Ant Man- you won't see the Fantastic 4, Spiderman, or any of the X-Men because the rights to put those characters into films aren't under Marvel's control.

Spiderman was part of the New Avengers up until the Civil War (in fact it was both Captain America and Iron Man who encouraged him to be a part of the team).

And yes not any of the X-Men, not because Marvel would't want to have them in the film in some manner just because they can't put them in because they sold the rights to make films with those characters.

I'm saying X-men is pretty all-inclusive.

I mean where's the line? like Deadpool, he wasn't actually with the X-men, he had his own line. and Hulk first appeared in a Wolverine comic. If you're gonna try to do a movie with absolutly nothing that can be traced back to X-men... Good Luck!

It's not a case of not being able to use characters that have appeared alongside the X-Men, you just can't make a film using characters that are clearly defined as being X-Men in any adaptation not made by Fox.
And actually it was the other way round regarding the Hulk and Wolverine, Wolverine first appeared in a Hulk comic.

agreed marvel piss me off sometimes (the fact they missed emma frost out of the movies) lol. I just hope they dont mess thor and the avengers up.
Emma Frost is in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, she's not accurately portrayed other than the Diamond form she can take on but there you go, none of the X-Men films are great for representation (American Colossus anybody?).

Whilst the characters do cross over a lot, 'X-Men' tends to be an all-encompassing label for marvel mutants - almost every mutant in the Marvel universe is introduced via X-Men or one of there many, many, many offshoot titles.

Most likely War Machine, Black Widow, Nick Fury and The Hulk. Ant Man should be in it, but they want avengers in 2012, and they haven't sorted anything out for his solo film yet other than Edgar Wright as director. If Ant Man is in, then Wasp will probably be in too.

Fox are actually working on recasting and relaunching FF4. It's only been like 3 frikkin years....madness!

(American Colossus anybody?)
Daniel Cudmore is canadian :p
