Ok ok, this aint perfect or finished by any stretch of the imagination but its a start in creating my version of the Yautja for 40k (Yautja are the Predator's, well from Predator 1, 2 and Alien Vs Predator etc). Im no expert on the Yautja, but i know a fair bit about the 40k universe, only stuff i really know about the Yautja is from the movies and a quick browse of wikipedia

Any how hears my start on them, i didnt come up with this list, a friend sent me a blank one, dont know where he got it from, but ive filled it in and here we are.

Inspiration: All the Predator movies, and an old novel (The name escapes me, currently trying to find it in the local library).

Race: Yautja (other races commonly refer to them as Predator’s)
Physical Characteristics: Im gonna assume/hope you have all seen a Predator film, if you have, well there is the physical image.

Home world: Has received no name from the Imperium except the short code PTC 112.34, the Yautja refer to the planet as Dar’rail (World of the Hunt).

Segmentum: Not within any imperial segmentum, beyond Segmentum Pacificus.
Sector: Unknown, non imperial sector.
Sub -Sector: non imperial sub-sector. The Yautja refer to the sector as Kennyr’rail (Sworn to the hunt).
System: non imperial system. The Yautja refer to it as Tyrnea’rail (Children of the hunt)

Surveyed: Unknown and no proof, has not be officially surbeyed by the Imperium but rumours of rogue traders and splinter forces mentioning the planet.
First colony landing: Never been colonised by the imperium.
Declination: [index key lost] [corrupted data]
Coordinates: x: Unknown y: Unknown z: Unknown

Note: Remaining data is only known to the Yautja.

Satellites: Two moons in static parallel orbit, Fir’laf and Fis’laf (Dark moon and Light moon respectively).

Celestial phenomena: Five solar Asteroid belts providing shielding from outside asteroid/meteor strikes (Also creates a very ascetically pleasing sight of 5 rings rotating around the green blue planet).

Size: ~5.500 km in radius.

Gravity: 12.8m/s

Population, See also society: ~294,450 divided up with 67.3% being male.

Rotation Speed: 440 mph

Orbit: Due to the relatively high mass of the planet and gravitic effect of other solar bodies the orbit is roughly flat and equal with no major diversifying effects on climate.

Day Length: 28 hours

Year length: 480 days split into 12 months, each month equals 40 days.

Climate classification: Cold - Temperate - Humid

Mean Surface Temperature: 19 - 28 degrees celcius

Tropospheric Composition: Catagorised as class M planet, or within 0.02 divergence of earth.

Climate: Relatively long Summer of 5 months and short winter of 2 months, Spring and Autumn are relatively shorter than standard due to orbit. Spring is the longest season being 3 months long and Autumn 2 months.

Climatic Regions:
--------------------: Polar regions generally mountainous surrounded by ice glaciers which weaken in summer months, but never completely melt. Mountains are Ice covered for ~ 10.216 months of the year.
--------------------: Tropic bands between poles roughly equal temperature between polar and equatorial temperatures, average temperature in these regions is 14 degrees celcius.
--------------------: Equatorial regions form greatest area and main continental masses are found here, average temperature for these regions are 22 degrees celcius.

Climatic Phenomenon: Rainy season lasts ~55 days during winter months (Also rains during other seasons, but not with the continual rain experienced during the winter - Average days of rainfall per year are 200.

Flora:------: Polar regions contain practically no flora due to extreme temperature.
------------------: Tropic areas dominated by dense forests. Grasses dominant in higher areas, lower areas dominated by long grasses and fungi.
------------------: Equatorial regions typically deforested to make way for pyramidal structures and agriculture, where absent deciduous forest are dominant.

Fauna:-------: Domesticated mammals are found in the agricultural area, used for a food supply.
--------------------: Other domesticated mammals are kept as pets such as all breeds of Canis and Reptiles.
--------------------: Native Fauna: Small hunting Canis called Ly’rah (Wolf beast), and large hunting Canis called Ael’ly’rah (Great Wolf Beast). Medium vegetarian mammals, and countless species of birds, typically sea birds. No winged insects, or arachnids, primarily centipedial.

Major topograhical items:
3 major landmasses, North and South poles, and the main very large Eyllis’rail (Land of the Hunt).

53 minor islands, 8 of the 53 islands form a circle, these remote islands have theological and religious sites which date back to early Yautja history, ceremonies for right of passage still occur on these islands.

The Eyllis’rail is separated by many mountains and the edges a boarded by an inland ridge of mountains called Bael’sel (Mountain Guardians). The Bael’sel has multiple openings which allow the winds to flow through causing a unique and strong wind channels which crisscross the continent.

The North and South centres of Eyllis’rail are large economical hubs where the majority of the society is centred, they cover a large land mass as the Yautja prefer large areas to dominate and rome, and the males are very territorial (Wont see a high rise apartment complex, would start too many territorial fights)

The West centre is a large and highly technological advanced section (Not any more advanced than other areas, but much more numinous and used in much more regularly) It contains the large mountain on the planet at its centre, size was increased by terra forming. At the top quarter of the mountain there is a huge star port, used to launch the hunts, war, exploratory and the Kennyr’rail transport. The star port is split into four sections respectively. The mountain and docked craft is a remarkable sight, which cannot be defined, it is natural beauty mixed with Yautja made landmarks and floating around the mountain, whilst docked, with terminals protruding from the mountain, connecting too the crafts bodies.
The East centre is dominated by agricultural developments and small hunting grounds near the tropics.

Cities and Towns: (Still working on this)

Economy: The Yautja economy is, well non existence if compared to the imperium. , there is no records of trading with other races and the society is basically on one level, with minor fluctuations described in society section. The economy is basically local planet trading of minerals, food, and technology.

Society: The Yautja society is a complex one; it could be viewed as a three level system, young bloods, adults, and elders. The young bloods are unproven warriors who have yet too complete their right of passage. Adults have passed the right of passage and have chosen their role in society. Elders are Yautja who have reached a position upon the council, but that simple view would be nothing compared to the real society, and rather primitive.

For many species there is a major social divergence between the genders, females generally raise children, and do not participate in wars, that’s left to the stronger males. The Yautja society gender split is different, females bear the children, but once born, the child and mother move to the tropical forests on Dar’rail for three years/ In these three years the child grows and is protected by the mother, also the mother teaches the child how to gather food (mainly fungi, and small animals) and skin/clean/prepare the food.

At the end of the three years the mother and child return to the place of birth, and the father takes the child (Who is now the equivalent of a 14 year old human). The father amd child travel to the mountain ridge, Bael’sel, where they will remain for three years. At the mountain ridges, the child learns how to hunt, make basic equipment and weapons, and prepare for the rites of passage. The pair will have to defend themselves against the many dangers they will face (With out the fathers normal arsenal).

After this the child (Now the equivalent to an 18 year old human) will have to face the test, the rite of passage. Information on the rite of passage is restricted.

The society has a caste system, with three major castes, (Still working on it).

Theological Situation: The Yautja dont have a god they worship as the almighty creator of everything, or amazing uniter of the galaxy, etc etc, they follow a shasmatic (Dont know if thats even a word) approach, following old cultural beliefs, forming the basics to their society built around respect, honour, survival and the hunt. The Yautja have few psychers, but their powers are considerable, and are often referred to as seer's, they can predict to near future with some degree of accuracy through rituals which comprise of chants, blood markings and specific placement of bones from fallen Yautja. These seer's are often used by the high council to spread light on upcoming events and so forth.

The Yautja do worship a daemon, this daemon is not worshipped religiously or given Yautja sacrifices, this daemon was once a Yautja, a mighty warrior, a hunter, he won many battles for the Yautja which resulted in many planets coming under Yautja control, he also managed to slay a Tyranid Hive Tyrant and its entire body guard in close combat, this feat left the daemon (who at this stage was still a mortal Yautja) mortally wounded, he would have, should have died soon after the epic fight, as their was no way to get him medical assistant in time (feild kits were not designed for the scale of injury he acquired). A seer of the Yautja had been assigned to the formation, this seer was the first ever seer to experience combat, up to that point in time seers were kept away from fights and seen as predomitally non military. This seer quickly came to the dieing warrior, and preformed a ritual which took many hours, hours in which the warrior should have died.

But the warrior did not die, the warrior slowly began to heal, and after 3 long hours the seer slumped to his knee's, all energy drained from his body he was a light grey colour, the blood circle around the warrior began to pulse a dark red aura. This startled the fellow Yautja who immediately steeped back and drew their weapons, suspicious of what the seer had done. The seer shouted a final word then fell to the ground dead. The fallen warrior then rose. He rose like he had a choir of angels lifting his body upright so he did not have to move a muscle, once upright dark wing tore out of his back, the wings were ripped in places, they were images from a nightmare. The Yautja all backed away, fear creeping into their minds. The fallen warrior skin slowly changed, rippling, turning a dark grey, hardening, his face had transformed the most significantly, two horns protruded from the top half of his skull, his fangs grew larger and his eyes became an eerie white which shone like light house in a sea of darkness. His hands became claws razor sharp, his muscles became larger, and he grew at least 2 foot taller, within 4 minutes the transformation was complete, the fallen warrior had become an almighty daemon, or rather a rogue daemon prince had now possessed the fallen Yautja body.

The other Yautja all fell to their knees and bowed, knowing they were in the company of a demi god. The daemon spoke with a tone unlike any Yautja, the Yautja all rose, gathered their equipment and prepared for an upcoming battle. A Tyranid force was charging towards them, mere minutes away, no one had noticed due to the ritual. The daemon lead the Yautja formation and they annihilated the superiour Tyranid force.

The daemon now resides on Dar’rail, but is not worshipped as a god in his own right. He is seen as a supreme warrior, a hunter of unmatchable power, he is consulted on upcoming battles and given sacrifices of the foes race as to find their weaknesses. The daemon is also consulted regularly by the seer's and is seen as the key to their power, and child that they made. The daemon does move from Dar'rail to fight and assist in important battles where his might is required.

Normal Citizen Average Income: Not applicable

Water Supply: The water supple comes from several large inland lakes/rivers. There is a large mountain scheme which captures water and distributes it to a number of dams, there are also salt water distillers past the Bael’sel mountain ridge, but is only used in extreme droughts.

Notable Locations:
1 The Bael’sel mountain ridges which encircle the giant continent.
2 The Rau’ro (Star Walker) mountain is a spectacular sight, being the largest landmark, and only land star port, located in the west centre.
3 The Cor’ria (Legendary Hunters) temple is an Aztec/Egyptian mix and houses the remains of many great hunters, and wall carvings depicting their stories.

Notable Citizens: (Still working on this)
• Master Elder, ........., ........ is a living legend among the Yautja, he has lead countless successful hunts on the Xenomorph's and was part of the hunt team which captured a norn queen, the feat left ........... with permamnet scares across his entire body, and loss of his left eye. Their are only two other suvivors of that hunt, ........... and .......... who now form .......... personal body guard.
• The high council, names of the current members cannot be reveiled. They can be found in the ......... spire.
• Cheif ........., commander of all the Yautja military operations, second only to the Master Elder.

Non-Military and Hunt History:
1 2327 by Yautja records: Complete unified nation (more like conquered by the Dryear’ raheal ‘Champions of the Gods’ clan).
2 2648 by Yautja records: Completion of the Rau’ro mountain port.
3 2655 by Yautja records: Completion of Rua’coranna (Star Legend Maker, equivalent to a Space Marine Battle Barge, but with far superior cloaking mechanisms.

Hunt History:
1 Hunt of Splinter Fleet Lylander, successful capture of Norn Queen, and complete annihilation of fleet.
2 Successive hunts on planet [--<CLASSIFIED>--] for honour hunts and trials.
3 Human hunts on Imperium outer rim worlds, were rumours and speculations of the Yautja race can still be heard, and rise after brutal murders.

Military History:
1 2658 by Yautja records: Dar’rail is attacked by a small splinter Tyranid force, unknown origin and fleet. The splinter force was successfully defeated, but left the planet ruined, took almost all the readily available resources to restore the planet back to its initial health via terra forming and other techniques. This encounter was the first that the Yautja had with a Tyranid force (Giving them an idea that Tyranid fleets were well a lot smaller than a real fleet is), and they named the Tyranids Kainde amedha (Hard Meat, or Xenomorph).
2 2734 by Yautja records: 3 Cruisers left Dar’rail in a military hunt of the source of the Tyranid attack, the force found Hive Fleet Xenomorph which destroyed the the 3 cruisers with ease, messages were relayed back to the Yautja worlds in distress and opening the Yautja eyes to how large the Tyranid species was and how the attack on Dar’rail must have been a (splinter/sepratist/lost/seperated/how ever you want to explain it) focre.
3 2800 by Yautja records: Establishment of territory, Tyrnea’rail system, and deemed largest size which the race should develop to defend successfully against the Tyranids should a fleet stray towards it, construction of counter measures and a permanent defence force were completed on this date. The Tyrnea’rail system would be able to fend off any fleet for enough time until the full force of the Yautja race could be brought to bear for war, though if multiple fleets were to attack, it would prove fatal, but the Tyrnea’rail system appears to be outside the Tyranid path and has yet to be given any attention by the Tyranid major fleets.

Current Military Status: Gold, Hunts a to be planned and submitted to the high council prior to commencing, the council decided if it should proceed or if it would endanger the Yautja race.

There is currently no major offensive, small skirmishes on border edges against minor races attempting to enter the Tyrnea’rail system. Defensive developments are taking place.

Main Military Formations: There are four major formations used by the Yautja, each consiting of two aspects of the Yautja, also commonly associated with the originating eldar or clan methods. The first is light and fast, the second is hard and armoured, the third is tactical and armoured, and the fourth is sly and mobile.

The light and fast approach is often used in raids, initiation hunts and where heavy support is unavailable; therefore the technique is usually combined with ‘portals’ which allow far greater mobility and escape routes. Open topped skimmers are common in this formation, allowing the Yautja far greater movement, but at increased risk.

The hard and armoured method is used in honour hunts against powerful foes, each Yautja is equipped with full body armour, plasma blasters (Hurls small plasma bolts, equivialant to a bolter, or in a shoulder miu linked form equivalent to a bolt pistol), a variety of close combat weapons (Depending on personal style) and other survival equipment. Fully enclosed land based vehicles are used instead of the open skimmers, provides far greater protection, and equipped with assault ramps which can deliver the Yautja right into the middle of the fight.

The tactical and armoured formation is used mainly by the military forces, designed to provide enough fire power to disable opponents heavy armour, and provide covering fire which can cope with withering tides of foes. A unit commonly lead by an eldar and religious leader will form the back bone to the force, and counter any assaults which manage to reach a danger zone, this unit will be deployed via a armoured land vehicle.

The final formation, the sly and mobile tactic is rarely used, mainly because its main body is formed of Yautja highly skilled and trained with ranged weaponary, primary high calibre sniper rifles, few Yautja fit this role, not because inability, but because it does not appeal to them and fuss few follow the path of the ranger, many prefer the honour of close combat. The formation is supported by mounted Yautja with lances, and medium armoured Yautja with either a close combat focus role, or close ranged support fire role, commonly transported in a medium armoured skimmer with a large array of defensive technology and ranged weaponry to support the cargo.

There is a additional formation, but is not used in war, or hunts, it is a formation used to settle tribal/clan disputes, honour fights or feral encounters. It comprises of entire force without armour, or advanced weaponry, just the Yautja and basic equipment, and often use captured beasts.

Armoury: The Yautja have a wide armoury of equipment available to them, built over centuries for their specific tasks. This armoury is almost universal among the Yautja planets, with only minor variations depending on clan and eler based preferences.

Helmet: The Yautja body armour usually consists of a highly advanced helmet. There a many helmet patterns and designs, usually customised by the user. The helmets have several visual frequencies, infra red, ultraviolet, thermal, and many others. The helmet also has targeting and tracking abilities which enhance the Yautja skills, and interfaces with the miu linked weaponry.

Body Armour: Awu'asa in the Yautja language is made up of a series of interfacing plates which can be customized by the user for specific capabilities.

The standard/initial piece is a chest plate, this piece covers the top half of the chest and provides the starting frame work for any additional plates or equipment. The chest piece alone offers low protection, but provides much greater movement.

The many additions to this system is a full torso plates, enclosing the entire torso in multiple advanced plates which offer high levels of protection. There are also pauldrons, wrist guards, tassets, leg plates, boots, gauntlets, and many additional pieces which can be interchanged to provide varying armour capabilities and movement.

The highest level of armour available to a Yautja is a fully enclosed plate body armour, the thickness is almost double the standard full body suit, but provides protection equal to tactical dreadnaught armour, these suits are rarely used as they are too heavy and greatly impede on the movemtn capabilities of a Yautja.

The standard enclosed suit offers protection on a similar level to power armour, without the additional ablative ceramite protection.

There are multiple attachments which can be added to a Yautja chest plate, but often impeding restrictions which limit the capability to add additional plates to the suit. One such attachment is a cloaking device, the cloaking device is attached the initial chest plate and provides the Yautja with active camouflage. Only pieces of armour which can be combined with the cloaking device is a helmet, pauldrons, boots, gauntlets, wrist guards and light ablative armour on legs, lower chest and arms.

Weaponry: Arm Blades, Wrist Blades, Combi Sticks, Power Gloves, Laser Net, Net Gun, Plasma Blasters, Shuriken, Spear gun, swords, whips, flamers, glaives, solvent, and self destruct devices, there are many others but are often just variations of the primary weaponry. (More detail coming later).

Wrist Blades: ki'cti-pa in the Yautja language is the most common weapon found on any predator, nearly every predator has one, if they don’t they would most likely have the larger version Arm blades. The wrist blades is two pairs of retractable blades (one pair for each hand) that can range from 12-18 inches long and are very durable. Like most Yautja equipment, they can be customized on a large scale, size, serrated, reversed edge, double edge, heated, are the most common customizations.

Arm Blades: Are just a much larger version of the wrist blades, but suffer from an inability to retract due to their size.

Power Glove: The power glove is a gauntlet attachment which greatly increases the user’s strength, similar to a power fist. Upon impact the power glove releases a blast of kinetic energy which can smash through thick walls, armoured vehicles and battle armour.

Net gun: The net gun can come in two forms, a small wrist mounted weapon, or a larger two ahdn held weapon. Both fires a razor sharp net which constricts with brutal force. Only difference is size of the net.

Whip: The most common whip used by the Yautja is a long and segmented. If used correctly it can wrap it self around the opponent and when pulled taut has the ability to cut most opponents in half. There are many variations of the whip.

Combi sticks: Are a retractable spear usually with three retractable sections on each side. The combi sticks can be customized and are one of the preferred weapons by most predators, second to the wrist blades.

Plasma Blasters: There are three versions of the plasma blaster, a wrist mounted version, a shoulder mounted version and a two handed version. Each fire similar plasma blasts, the wrist and shoulder versions are the most common as they do not require hands to use and thus frees the predator to use other weapons. The two handed version has far greater range and can be fired rapidly.

Other Notes: Sorry if its a bit messed up, basically be coppied straight from a notepad document and added in the bolds :(.

Anyways ill be finishing this soon i hope, then ill be making an army with it. Got a few army ideas floating around, either go full kroot mercenaries (Well they look like predators, just need a face change and some extra fingers), or go space wolfsor chaos (have all the Predators in armour, remove back packs, modify helmet and use greenstuff to make the dreadlocks, then conversions for weapons etc) or go with an eldar version, using lots of striking scorpians.

http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6418 is the link to the trial army lists.

Nice fluff! Like to see the stats soon. These guys sound like perfect opponents for 'nids, and may possibly ally with Ultramarines (Battle of Macragge and all that stuff).

are these preds sticking to the true predator nature? cause if they are it's extremely unlikely theyd ally with anybody.

oh and very nice fluff. are these guys gonna have some mad weapons? if i recall they had metal harpoon things that cut through steel and concrete like warm butter.

and good god how long did it take you to come up with this and type it?

Sorry to disapoint all, i wasnt gonna do a custom army or anything, the people around my area dont like homemade rules, so i was gonna try to fit them into a codex which best represent them stat wise and then model them diffrantly.

I dont know too much about real predator background, but what i gathered from the films was that if they had a common foe (like nids) that they would team up if the other force could proove themselves to be good at hunting/fighting, in AvP the human is allowed to assist, but if anyone know more about predators could tell me if this is common or just for the movie.

As for the army, it really depends on what military formation i prefer (Given my self a large window to work with), could be dark eldar, chaos marines khorne focused, space marines, space wolfs probally, or eldar with pathfinder troops and striking scorpians.

Oh and heres a link to the army list im working on http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6362
Thanks for all the feedback, ill try to finish the background soon

very nice, you get kudos for that fluff dude. couple of thoughts tho;
ive read in a few places that yautja females are extremely ferocious and warrior...esses without peer...and that predator society is matriarchal. the females' martial prowess is equal, if not greater than the males'.
also, yautja culture is very simillar to Aztec culture...warriors were primarily solo hunters and the one who could get the most kills was the greatest warrior...etc. anyway, those are just thoughts, and if you want you could go to wikipedia and look up the predators for more info that stuff is pretty in depth.
excellent work btw

Thanks Captain Galus, didnt know that about the females, but seems ive already written this much i dont think ill change it, id prefer in my version if they were on an even par, although i could change it, but that would mean id have to rewrite a fair bit, and probally mean all my squad leaders would have to be female? or would they be significantly stronger? and fus be army commanders or something?

Revenant it has taken me about a week on and off to get this far, but had the idea in my head since watching AvP2 about 3 weeks ago.

ZsoSahaal thanks for the offer, but because im not making a custom list i wont need the help, although i could write a section in the fluff about the weapons, when i get to that point ill send you a pm, would appreciate your help on then.

Have now added the Theological situation, took a while but i think it fits.

Thanks shamrok, it hasnt been much of a pain to type yet, been interesting, im not much good with hand written drafts so typing it has been almost fun, a break from work .

Havnt done much more yet, but the army ill be creating will be the 'hard and armoured' formation, being based on a restricted Chaos Codex, basically no possessed, dreadnaughts, plague/noise/rubric marines, raptors, daemons, spawns, or tanks (Exceapt the land raider which i have a nice plan for ).

The land raider will be heavily converted, with sides more like a helicopter without the sliding doors. Gunners mounting the twin lascannons, and a bunch of Yautja holding ceiling handles, ready to jump into the thick of battle.

Obliterators will be a smaller version of a dradnaught, wounded Yautja who arnt going to die from their injuries, but a significantly injured that they wouldnt be able to continue fighting in their current condition. Given a exoskeleton suit similar to a tau battlesuit, but one arm would be a large weapon, named 'Plasma Array Cannon' basically giving all the weapon options an obliterator has by alternating the power and settings. Two shoulder mounted flamers representing the twin flamers which obliterators can get, and a large fist on the other arm, similar to a dreadnaughts.

Bikers will be pretty similar, but if given mark of nurgle, they would have extra armour plating around the sides etc, to represent improved protection and increased toughness.

Khorne Bezerkers will be combat specialist Yautja, with suitable conversions so they look like predators from the films.

Basic Chaos Marines will be basic yautja warriors, armed with a larger version of the shoulder weapons predators have in films, but will requre both hands to use, like a bolter .

Veterans, well veteran Yautja.

Terminators, heavily armoured yautja, no idea on how i would model them yet, or if ill use any.

Sorcerers, representing battle seers, restricted to warptime psychic power, to fit with a therme im working on.

Lords = Elder Yautja, clan leaders or military commanders.

Daemon Prince = The only daemon in the Yautja system, fixed to only having wings, mark of tzeentch, and warptime upgrades.

Anyway more information, and detailed background info to each unit slection coming soon. Hopefully ill also be able to reveal a bigger picture on the seers and daemon prince soon.

I really want to see some units and stats. What stats you thinking on giving them, high WS, low BS, high initiative? Also, isn't outside of Segmentum Pacificus a bit too far away to see a splinter fleet? I mean almost all of the Hive Fleets came from the eastern fringe.

My friend's rules and stats (I'm mainly working on the fluff). I'll probably come up with my own Predator Codex in the future. I'm thinking of writing all the fluff and then asking others for input on rules (I'm more into the fluff than tabletop)

Well when it comes to fluff, I suggest you put them on the eastern fringe (don't know much about Predators, so if they are from outside of Segmentum Pacificus in their universe than by all means put them there), it would make more sense for them to bump into a hive fleet, they can be outside of the Imperium's reach, and they can reasonably expect to fight a lot of different species.

Onto my thoughts about the stats, I honestly think most of your units are too elite. It isn't that they are too cheap for their abilities, it is that they can dominate marines in CQB. For example, your master hunter has a WS of 8, a BS of 5, a strength and toughness of 5 and 6, 5 attacks, and 3 wounds. That is equal to or superior to a SM captain in all of the aforementioned ways. Unless you make all of their weapons terrible (as in no power weapons, all ranged weapons have low AP), I can honestly see the predators tearing marines to bits in CQB.

I suggest something more like this for a basic Predator Hunter from a hunter squad (I suggest you bump it up to 5 models or allow them to take more models as an upgrade)

Cost: about 30 points
WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
5....3...4.5.1..5.2.8..4+

Also, Predators are not frontline troops, they are hunters, they stalk their prey and ambush them. I think that perhaps you should give them special rules leaning more towards stealth, perhaps almost all units can infiltrate or something. Also, another idea for an elite spot, instead of or alongside Berserkers is perhaps some sort of champion hunter squad, all members have killed some kind of terrible monster like a Lictor or several Ork Nobz, who have tons of attacks, a very high BS and are like glass cannons. If you have an IG codex I suggest you look at Marbo since he is pretty much Rambo if Rambo had some subtlty.

Once again I don't know much about predator fluff and these are just my opinions, but I feel Predators should be a stealth army, just like the Tau rely on ranged combat, the Dark Eldar rely on speed, and Chaos Daemons rely on melee combat. Perhaps give them a cloaking field upgrade for like 5 points that gives them a cover save bonus even in the open.

Also I didn't look at the armoury yet, so if I made assumptions about equipment and am wrong, well sorry.

Just FYI, the predator's have some crazy tech. In the game AvP Extinction, there's a weapon called the plasma scythe. It's wielded by a Yautja military class called Vanguards.
I remember that game from a few years back, actually pretty good. The Alien Ravagers were killing machines, 3 of them could win you a level alone, running around decapitating everyone. I suggest you look at that game for some ideas (not sure if it is Predator canon it is or how much you want to stick to canon), certainly had some cool units, I remember how the predators with the gauntlet blades could kill swarms of face huggers.

Well there were Predator blazers, hydras, disc masters, hunters etc.
...a lot of cool units, dunno if you still remember http://www.angelfire.com/pro/avp/avpebestiary.html

Four vanguards pretty much rape anything since it only takes at most four hits with the plasma scythe to kill something. If you have four of them, they swing almost simultaneously and the enemy dies in less than a second :p

Three ravagers could slaughter swarms of marines, killing smart gunners and anything besides the exo-suits in one hit each, and they had regeneration. Snipers were also hilarious, get a squad of 4 or so and watch as they kill everything in one volley through walls at the maximum range of any unit.

Anyway, I would definitely suggest that you add Vanguards and stuff as elite choices. I think the greatest problem with predators would be thinking of a heavy support choice, since they are honorable hunters and everything.

Perhaps something like predators in power armour (still only a 3+ save) with plasma casters on the shoulders and the blade gauntlets. Perhaps make the blade gauntlets power weapons and let the user switch out the plasma caster for something else like a bladed net (shoot a net at a guy and it cuts through them because it is made of sharpened metal).

Perhaps make the net gun something like strength 3 AP 5 small blast assault 2 12 inch range, perhaps give it a special rule that immobilizes any unit hit by the blast (perhaps make some sort of test if just forcing them to be caught seems too powerful) for the next turn regardless of whether or not any wounds were sustained. It wouldn't be very good at actually killing anything besides GEQ, but it could halt an enemy unit long enough to ensure that you get the charge, or to fire a volley of plasma fire at the enemy.

This site seems to have a good list of weapons.

Edit: Also, perhaps your friend should find a different way to implement the self-destruct, perhaps the unit must be ordered to, and cannot be retreating. In other words, you can charge a squad of Khorne berserkers, and if you survive the first round of combat and no one breaks you can blow up your predators, if you lose you cannot destroy them. Either that or have it be some sort of morale test, because as that rule currently stands no one should engage them in melee combat, because even if you win you will likely die.

Good suggestions, for heavy units...the Hydras and Blazers (check out the bestiary link in my previous post) would be good choices

Hydras fire missile swarms from batteries on their shoulders
Blazers have dual shoulder cannons that fire sweeping beams "hotter than the cores of many stars"
The Hunter's shoulder cannon can be upgraded to an "omni caster" capable of firing dark plasma, which ignores armor
I think the Disc Master could be considered heavy support too (the upgraded unit can simultaneously control 9 "nano vibronic" chainsaw discs)
