Beyond the light of the Astnomican the "Other Half" of humanity waits and prepares for the Darkness. A time when the Emperors light once again no longer shines within the galaxy. They are watchers in the night. Unseen and untormented by chaos.

What their kin within the Imperium do not understand is that the Emperors light does not just shine into the warp, it lets the warp look back into the materium. That is why finding a way into the Web Way was so important to the Emperor. He needed to find a way to communicate and travel amongst the millions of worlds without endangering the lives of the trillions of souls he was trying to save.

Over the thousands of years that they have survived in the darkness these humans have developed new philosophies, ideas and religions. Foremost among all of these is The New Truth and the practice of Z'hen. How these ideas had become spread across the hundreds of thousands of light years that made up the area of space know as Outremere was unclear, in fact, nobody had an idea that the religion existed anywhere outside their worlds. There was absolutely no stellar travel or communication. Regardless by the beginning of the 42nd millenium the two had come to every inhabited world of human and xeno alike. But the story of how these two practices came into being was known by every single man woman child and alien by heart.

The New Truth was a chapter in a testament said to be written by a god whose name was Na'teis. It was the gods personal account of the journey that would eventually lead him to discover not only his own fate after life but the fates of all the sentient creatures in the galaxy.

It was written that since his birth the god had a fascianation with death. This was partially because the day he was born there was a prophecy of the day he would die. Not only would he lose his godly life but he would also be hated by his own kin and cast out of their very memories for eternity before he would meet his ultimate and horrible demise. For the first part of his life he tried as best he could to ignore his fate. Yet everywhere he went and every stone he upturned there it was staring in his face. Proud and unwilling to accept that he-a god-could not change fate he set out to uncover the secrets of prophecy and future seeing. He spoke with the greatest gods and the lowliest of prophets and mastered the archaic arts. Yet despite all his knowledge he could not find a path around his fate.

Filled with resentment and anger Na'teis set out to set worlds on fire in an attempt to drive fate to alter itself. Billions of smaller fates were destroyed. Millions of other prophecies were stopped before they could even be prophecised. The blood of these horrible wars and the repricussions they would have on the sentient races and the gods themselves would prove to last much longer than the god that had unleashed them.

Yet it was during this dark period of his life that the god finally saw an escape from his torment. It had been there in front of him his entire life and yet he was too proud and too vain to see. The only real way was for him to accept his fate and live his life. And for the first time the god looked amongst his own people and realized that he was one of them. He was ashamedof himself. He had lived a dozen of their life spans without a care for anything but himself. He had without pause led his own people to their deaths and reveled in his victories built on their broken bodies. The god wept.

Many years had passed and the day of reckoning was quickly approaching. For the last years of his life the god did not sleep nor stop working on his final victory. He left his realm and went to the realm of his peoples great enemies. There he met with the gods of the ether and made a deal. He wrote that he knew he would be hated by his own people for such a deal yet it was something that he knew he would have to do in order to accomplish his final victory. Here in the land of the dead he had seen with his own eyes what happened to the souls of man. He saw billions devoured by a single god. He saw demons and things too horrible to explain fighting over scraps of soul like rabid dogs. He heard the screams of damned.

Now that he finally understood he began to travel back to his people. However fate had already began to unfurl. He was tracked down by his own brother and brought before their father in the chains of a traitor. His fathers wrath was great and his life was only spared by the steady hand of another lesser god. Of course Na'teis had no fear for he knew his killers face already from his visions and it was not his father that would deal the killing blow. How ironic he thought though that it was that his fathers choice of punishment would lead the him to that killer. He and all those loyal to him were to be banished beyond the light of the living realm. Those who remained loyal to the father were blessed by his own and then honorably killed. The Father destroyed Na'teis memories from the minds of all the people of the real. He took the ability for the people to even create the syllables with their mouths. The same could not be done to his kin but to them he gave a decree that none shall ever speak the name and had each of them swear a blood oath that should they ever encounter the traitor again they would either kill him or be killed by his treacherous hand.

It was on his last voyage from his home that The New Truth had come to Na'teis. It is written that the moment he had finished writting he looked up and caught one last look at his home before they made the long journey into the darkness.

The New Truth was simple. You are nothing. You will live-briefly. You will die-quickly. And your soul will be devoured by the demons and gods of the ether. This was not meant to inspire those who learned the truth to each become heros of life. Or to become evil perverts of excess or to strive to change the world around them. It was meant to give them the most precious gift of all, the truth. It was meant to free them from them paranoia and fear of death. The final gift of the writings of The New Truth was the proof of the soul. Within its writings was bound the soul of the first prophet and one of Na'teis most loyal and trusted warriors. The amazing thing was that the soul was not just bound into a single copy of The Testament it was bound to the words. If the words are written or read than the soul is brought forth and can quide the student into the depths of his own soul.

The practice of Z'hen and the New Truth go hand in hand. Without one there could not be another and so therefore each was created at the same time. Where The New Truth explains the reality of the human situation and proves the existance of the SOUL, the practice of Z'hen teaches the practioner to actually look to and care for their own soul without the spirit of the Truth to guide them. It is a practice that demands rigid and total discipline and is worked into every single aspect of life. To one outside the truth is seems that the people have become obsessed with their practice. Most of the dedicated lose interest in their earthly possessions and loved ones. This may seem very strange indeed to those who have never heard the Truth but to have a physical interaction with ones own soul was an experince so awe inspiring and so very terrifying in its truth that one had no choice but to help strengthen it. It was the practice of Z'hen that was the spark that ignited the masses to unite and which allowed them finally to come to meet the Great Prophet that had been created for them alone...

I have always like the idea of another human empire in the galaxy. I imagine that a Primarch that had actually lived for the last ten thousand years would be pretty bad ass now and would make a great KING.
