this is probably an exception to the rule but it seems all things warhammer 40k related and general conversations with warhammer players at our local shop boil down to:
unless you play eldar WS spam or Tau you re fucked.

with this i don't mean cultured conversation like happens here but just straigthup whinging.

anyone else have this problem (with the thing being whinged about or the whinging itself).

Well, I've been out of the game a bit ever since, where was it, just before the necrons got a new dex, but the store I played at had two meta list people that ran with the Blood Angels, and we had a few issues with people whining about it and how unfair straight mech was to fight. But luckily the owner of the store played too, he tended to tell them to quite their bitching and just play and have fun.

In my experience the people that whined eventually got fed up and left or learned that no one really cared to hear them complain all the time.

I must be fortunate to not run into any power lists.

There's a few people who put allot of thought into their armies but their lists are only dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.

i'm sadly plagued by the things, there are 3 people at our local that regularly play WS spam. noone dares to play tau since they will get raged at by the store owner who (luckily) hates the crap out of Tau.
still, those 3 make everyone around hate Eldar and much whinging has been done, which annoys the crap out of a lot of OTHER people (see where this is going?).

same on a bunch of forums

Sorry I a bit out of date with terms, wtf is WS spam? and your store owner hates tau, that's unfortunate since it is a popular army.

I see some whining, I do some whining. Everyone thinks I'm a whiner because I keep trying to tell people that NO, 5th edition Combat Tactics were REALLY GOOD, and that there is no reason not to take a Heldrake, and that Wraithlords really are crap, and that no, the Tervigon is not fucking fail, it's better than whatever else is in your list that you took instead.

Well... the people at my club who play Eldar don't really go for serpent spam because they're either a) not dicks or b) don't have money to make the switch, and there is only 1 Tau player who is super-competitive (he's a nice guy though, a good friend of mine, so it's ok). He's been playing tau since they were horrible (he actually switched to them for that reason) and because of that he's really good, and people get that, so they don't bitch about it. It's a fantastic club in general.

I suppose I'm the worst whiner of the bunch, to be honest. Usually about the Iyanden army I can't beat . There's mild whining from everyone else, but most of the players can just get along fine and have fun whether or not their army is winning. After a game full of bad rolling/disasters, anyone can turn into a bit of a whiner, but generally we're all in good spirits.

Honestly, I've found much more whining on the internet. I suppose this isn't too surprising, as it applies to anything, not just wargaming. And not just whining, the thing that bothers me most is the plethora of "there's only one good choice, anything else and you're an idiot" posts. Isn't having fun with the army someone wants to play good enough? Different strokes, I s'pose.

If this is in a standard discussion, yeah. But in an 'Is this competitive' discussion, there is more often than not one obvious option, or a small selection (Tau have a huge variety of Elites - you can have one Riptide and two Crisis, or two Riptides and one Crisis!).

Whining is for the weak. Here in heresy we dine on the flesh of the weak.
Chaotic ramblings apart...i'm sad to hear that you have some serious problem with powercheese mongrels. Maybe youshould try and propose the store owner a tourney where it is forbidden to bring two units that are exactly the same. that should really give some twist. And also, it's too bad that he won't let anyone play tau. :nono: thats not funny at all. Also, the WS spammers could just stop being dicks for a weekend and try some different kind of list...

its realy sad and unprofesional if the owner of your local store would rage against people playing Tau, people should be free to chose an army because THEY like it not because others will like it.
but then its also sad that you have to put up with so much powercheese trowing over there in my part of the lowlands I dont seem to have much problems like that

There is always plenty of whinging around the interweb. Its the way things work. If its not super wave serpents its razroback spam from Grey Knights in 5th edition. There will always be a codex or 2 that have a better 'Im going to win' factor than other armies. There are not many ways around this.

I have grumbled previously amongst my gaming group that I dislike the power of the WS, but it would never stop me playing an eldar playing who had spammed them. But thats just me I guess.

And finally, the shop owner who frowns upon people using Tau? Thats madness, it seems like a good way to discourage sales!

At my local store, the only really cheese lists are mine
But that's because I played tau since their old codex as I loved the play style, not the models or the cheese
And I'm the same now
But others do play cheese lists, just not 'web spam'
Such as the grey knight that brings 3 raiders and hides in them all day
Or the cheating little necron ****
or the flying deamon dude
Or the 2++ rerollable disk dude or what ever

And honestly, I don't even use my tau as they seem to have lower win-loss ration(both have 100% win at store:blush:) but I brought my tau to a tournament the other day and every body said my tau list was filth, but against every army I just felt 'my flesh tearers would've done better'
And besides, riptides blasts are tedious, you cam never beat good old melee
But I do whinge abit about the heldrakes and the 2++ deamons and how stuff is just so blindingly unbalanced even friendlies aren't fun if someone brings one, even Mary ward as to see those things! But no, and the specialist games dying and every thing gw does is really driving to sadness as I see how gw is driving this awesome game to it's knees over stuff they already have :cray:

The complaints I've seen are from a strictly competitive standpoint, and they have some merit. The top armies at nova and other big tournies are just tau, eldar, and any combination of those 2 allied together. Daemons are Nipping at their heels, but with bad rolls their ultimate cheddar can be beaten (by itself). Whether its failing the grimiore twice, not getting perfect timing, failing a psychic check, warp storm shinanigans and what have you.

The lists getting the most flack are the ones that ignore the most rules. Biggest offenders being tau chip commanders attaching to riptides (which I think is complete bullocks to begin with) and wave serpents, specifically the shield. Now that these players have minmaxed their lists abusing that, and talked alllll about them on their blogs, it's causing waac's to follow suit.

I can see how this could be frustrating locally if someone is replicating. But the best part of 40k, Is choosing not to play said offender.

Here's to hoping that tyranids and IG mix up the meta.
