Alright, this is a sort-of a sequel to Oubliette of Solemn Oblivion. True, it was never finished but I have noticed that Zombie RPs are my speciality.

"This is an emergency broadcast to all who serve the blessed Emperor. This is Planetary Governor Silas Mandal of Goidelaer II and the situation here is critical. Emperor preserve us from what ever blight has come to us. It began four weeks ago when Mechanicum satellite 36505 detected a large mass entering the Goidelaer sector. Holo-scans have confirmed it to be a Space Hulk. At first we thought nothing of it, we reported it to Segmentum command and that was it. It was only a week later that we learned that it was headed on a crash course with our world. It was too late by the time we learned of this, as the Hulk was far too close and immense for any orbital defense we had to divert it. When we estimated the the thing's trajectory, we immediately ordered an evacuation of the coastal areas. We were too late, some unholy will lent the starborn terror speed, ploughing through the skies and smashing into the Faedhoibh ocean. By him on Terra I remember the day of impact, for the planet shaked like a furious deity. The waves that battered the coastline were titanic, rending the cities as though they were nothing. The settlements that were far from the epicenter, damaged as they were, reported another ill omen. The once blue ocean became like raw sewage, its beautiful sea breeze now warped into the scent of rotted corpses. Many concerns emerged that day; what of the survivors? What is to be done about the contamination? We were to monitor it, see that it does not spread into our vital agricultural water supplies. It wasn't until we sent aid groups to the most devastated zones, that we were to learn of our greatest concern. Backed by PDF and Guard units from the two regiments on leave here, the teams went in. According to reports, at first the cities were empty, the teams assumed everyone was washed out into that fetid mire of an ocean. That is, until they saw movement under the rubble. As they removed it, they found someone. The report indicates that the person looked worse for wear, possessing injuries that could kill a man . Accordingly, the eyes were heavily cataracted and the poor soul was aggressive, tearing a chunk out of the medicae's hand. His screams echoed throughout the ruins. What happened next was said to have chilled the hearts of all the personnel sent that day. A soul-rending moan came from deep within the city. It was then that they came into view, the citizens were all in the same condition as the one found within the rubble, all possessing the same ravenous look in their white eyes. The squads fired at the the mob, none of them fell. According to one of the officers, it was after their lasguns pierced their skulls that they finally fell. Immediately the Officer in command pulled them out, knowing there were too many to deal with. It was later on that the Medicae officer expired, but by the Emperor he didn't stay dead. He rose to attack one of mortuary officials, it was lucky a PDF officer was present to put the fiend down.

However, this was only the beginning. Some of the Aid groups were not as lucky as they were sent into the cities ruined by the Hulk's waves. Some incurred heavy casualties, reporting similar cases of those injured by the assailants suddenly expiring and then reanimating in front of their comrades. Then reports began to come in from the settlements least affected by the Hulk's waves were also experiencing similar phenomena, after partaking of contaminated water. Most disturbing of all, the Native clans began to arrive in Faenchal's Stave, with tales of the dead walking out of the ocean upon their lips. Those clan members who have served in the regiments, recognise ruined Mordian uniforms on the walking corpses. It was then that we started hearing reports of attacks on the farms and settlements. The refugees did not know what they were dealing with, bringing infected relatives into safe havens. Faenchal's Stave itself has had reports of walking dead within the city, but so far they have easily been dealt with by Native civilians.

Two days ago, the hordes from the ruined cities and the putrid oceans have been spotted moving slowly towards the capital. We have mustered the several PDF and both Guard regiments, the Cadian 375th and our own Goidelaer 102nd to assemble here, to keep the Dead at bay. However civil unrest is beginning to manifest. Conflicts between city-folk and Native groups are rising, the rhetoric of street fanatics stirring the pot further. More refugees are pouring in from the hot zones. It is likely there will be plenty of infected among them; Emperor only knows if the Judicators and volunteer groups can hold back the dead within Faenchal's Stave. I can only hope this communique reaches the listener's ears.

Goideler II
A planet located on the border between the Segmentums Ultima and Obscura, Goidelaer II is a verdant agri-world. Were it not for its hyper-fertile soil, the planet would have simply been left alone as a Feral world. Much of the northern hemisphere is grassland and forest, possessed of a temperate climate perfect for staple crops sent to feed Hive worlds and Imperial Guard regiments across the Imperium. The central and southern lands are perfect for more luxury-based produce imported to paradise worlds and spoilt aristocrats.

Goidelaer II is home to two different human populations; the Colonials, who's ancestors arrived in M36 to make use of the hyper-fertile soil and Gothic is spoken as a first language. The other culture call themselves the Aoisaech, who's ancestors are reckoned to have arrived during the Dark Age of Technology. Millennia of isolation have turned them into a proud warrior culture, though they didn't start using technology until the Imperium of Man arrived. Their view of the Emperor is somewhat different compared to that practiced by the Colonials, since it is an adapted pantheistic take on the Imperial Creed. One can easily tell the difference between a Colonial and Aoisin. An Aoisin generally has brown, black or red hair, often grown long and braided. Their complexion is fair and often have green or blue eyes. Their society is clan-based and nomadic, tattooing is an important rite of passage and general carry useful, if primitive weaponry such as bows, swords and spears; lasguns have been showing up much more in the clans, since a discharged Goidelaeri guardsman can keep his weapon if he so wishes. Though they do speak Gothic, the Aoisaech clans speak their own language, said to be descended from one that predates the Dark Age of Technology. Though tensions exist between the two Imperial cultures, the ruling family cannot deny that the ways of the Aoisaech contribute to the planet's output to the wider Imperium. The clans provide 75% of the meats exported to other parts of the Emperor's realm and know the wilder parts of Goidelaer II that bring more produce for the tithe. Furthermore, the nomadic warrior culture of the Aoisaech provides perfect recruits for the Imperial Guard alongside the Colonials. Their self-reliance generally means that the Munitorum only need be concerned with equipping more advanced armaments to Aoisin members of a Goidelaeri regiment provide their own close-combat weapons and armour...once they move past their issues with space flight.

Characters
As a participant, you will have choice of what your role is within the rp. You will choose from four groups:

Goidelaer 102nd*
You have a choice of 4 characters within this regiment.

  • 1 Commanding Officer (taken by moi 3:) )
  • 1 Sergeant
  • 2 Standard Guardsman
In terms of equipment, they carry standard Guard gear. A commanding officer can take non-standard weaponry. Colonial uniforms are closer to a standard Guard uniform whilst Aoisaech wear mostly chainmail and light fabrics; regardless both are green and red. A Sergeant can take a power sword, power fist and replace his laspistol with a plasma pistol. A Guardsan, regardless of origins, takes a lasgun (which one of them can replace with a special weapon) and a close combat weapon of some sort, since Aoisin Guardsmen tend to trade their Surplus blades with Colonial squadmates. This can result in them carrying swords, daggers and even an axe. Some even carry a bow, often for purposes of quiet hunting but can be applied situations where other ranged weapons have run empty.

Cadian 375th

  • 1 Commanding Officer
  • 1 Sergeant
  • 2 Guardsmen
Same deal as Goidelaer 102nd (both regiments have been around long enough to establish a trading network, except they are uninterested in Aoisin chainmail.)

PDF*
  • 1 Commanding Officer
  • 1 Sergeant
  • 2 Standard PDF troopers

Same as the Guard in terms of equipment.

Judicators and Civil Wardens*
  • 2 Judicators
  • 2 Civil Wardens
Judicators are generally equipped with less advanced variations of Guard equipment. The Wardens, being civilian volunteers use whatever they own.

Specialists**

  • Techpriest
  • Priest
  • Rogue Trader

*For purposes of balance, 2 characters may be Colonial and two may be Aoisaech (who's names have a Gaelic feel)
**Doesn't have to be Goidelaeri or Cadian
------------------

My Character

Name: Captain Tadhlinn Omerach

Homeworld: Goidelaer II (Aoisaech)

Age: 36

Role: Goidelaer 102nd Commanding Officer

Appearance: Being of the Aoisaech clans, Tadhlinn possesses the deep green eyes and long hair, woven into intricate braids, so often sported by the clanfolk. The Captain also bears the azure, arboreal tattoos of his rite of passage upon his face and has several on his arms and chest. He is also relatively tall, standing at 6ft in height and is possessed of a slim but muscular figure. Tadhlinn also has a single scar, running from his left eyebrow to the edge of his cheekbones.

Personality: It would be appropriate to state that Tadhlinn is a grim individual. Years of watching his fellow Guardsmen die have hardened an already hard heart. A realist by nature, the Captain sees any situation for what it presents itself as. Any humour he does engage in is often laconic and laced with sarcasm. Despite this, he will look out for his men and does not view them as expendable. Tadhlinn cares little for the cultural tensions of the Goidelaeri, as long as it does not interfere with the overall objective, then he will pay very little heed.

Background: The son of Teyrn Nuadhain of clan Doibhach, Tadhlinn spent most of his life learning the prerequisites of leadership. This would not be so, for the time of Goidelaer's manpower tithe had come and as the most martially able of the Teyrn's sons, he had to join. Given his position as nobility, Tadhlinn was offered command of a squad; like so many Aoisin nobles before him, he refused, he preferred his position to be earned. Like so many of the clanfolk, the then-Private required very little melee training and was one of those Aoisin elected to aid in the training of Colonial members of the regiment. He could see that it was an effective ploy to break the cultural barriers between both groups.

It was during his first engagement against an Orks warband that had earned him his renowned scar...and an early promotion. It was a comparatively minor skirmish, an ambush that went slightly awry when it was learnt that the squad was being stalked by Kommandos. A close run with the Nob leading them left Sergeant Marillios dead and Tadhlinn with his rank. It would be many years later, after plenty of years waging war against the enemies of the Daegadh (Emperor), that the now Captain Tadhlinn found himself on his and the men's homeworld, on leave and recruitment drives. Alas, he had hoped to immerse himself in the ways of the Aoisaech, but the arrival of the Space Hulk has changed all of that.

Wargear: Power sword, bolt pistol, Aoisin chainmail, camo-cloak, dagger and melta bombs.

Any questions? Feel free to ask!

Dramatis Personnae
Farseer Ulthris- Aoisin Captain Tadhlinn Omerach

VixusKragov- Aoisin Sergeant Cormac Eóghain

Chaplain-Grimaldus- Cadian Sergeant Gaius Valentine

xAngelicZ- Father Anais Galan

Cleanser- TBA

Since we will be having characters who's first language is not Gothic. Use this colour to indicate the character is speaking Aoisladh; imagine that it would sound like Irish Gaelic, with a slight hint of Welsh and Breton for good measure.

My Character

Name: Sergeant Cormac Eòghan

Homeworld: Goidelaer II (Aoisaech)

Age: 27

Role: Goidelaer 102nd (Sergeant)

Appearance: Descended from the hardy Aoisin line, he bears their traits in full, eyes like the sun's glint off ice staring out from a face marked a dozen times over with inks in various symbols and imagery. Crimson hair lies tightly braided in bands across his head, bound together at the back into a ponytail of red dreads. He stands at 5' 10", rigorous training and a life spent hunting through the forest granting him a body corded with muscle and trophies of battle, an ugly, rending scar marring his left side with raised, flaming tissue the worst of the trophies.

(I attached a pretty close approximation of his appearance, or at least as good as I could get with the DA:Origins character creator.)

Personality: Honor and loyalty to his clan and battle-brothers frame his actions, traits which have extended to his life within the Guard. Loyalty to his squad surpasses the contained wariness he feels around the Colonial troopers, and he would gladly take their place in death.

Despite such loyalty, he speaks very little to those from outside the Aoisaech clans, and when he must, it is a short conversation. His life is devoted to the lessons learned from early trials, a warrior born and bred, living for battle, with disdain to cowards and politics. This fervor is tempered little by his relatively young age, striving to prove himself and earn honor in slaying the enemies presented.

Background: Born within the Aoisaech clans, he fought by the side of his clan-brothers with zealous intent, every hunt a test of his skills and worth, every battle the chance to earn his place in the stories of old. When he was chosen to join the Guard as some are when they come of age, he resented the decision, wishing to remain on his homeworld and run with his clan until he earned a good death.

It was one he had to deal with though, and it didn't hurt that he was never far from the fight. His risky behavior has earned as many small victories as it has injuries, but luck has held out for him so far, his hard service eventually earning him a place as Sergeant. He's followed the Aoisin Captain dutifully for as long as he's been part of the squad, and when disaster strikes on Goidelaer II, he's ready to fight for the world of his people, against whatever may come their way.

Wargear: As a Sergeant, he's gained access to a prized Power Sword. He kept his own las-pistol, however, not trusting the 'plasma pistol', it's volatile nature known as yet another of the Imperium's odd technology. He, as many of his clansmen do, wears Aoisin chainmail, stained red and green. He also carries a bow with him, his one prized possession, given to him when he was declared a man of his clan. He's scored numerous kills with it in previous engagements, and he's taken to saying he can fire it better than any Guardsman can fire his lasrifle. The authenticity of this boasting is, of course, debatable.

I must ay this looks great Farseer. However due to upcoming promises I probably would not be able to keep up and must decline. However I wish you the best of luck, and look forward to watching it's progression as you weave this interesting story.

Hey Farseer, I had a question about this- how far has the infection spread, what are the casualties? The intro seems to imply just the capital left, but also makes note of hot zones that might hold survivors. Wondering if I could get more details with that.

Also, we've got 219 views on this thread, surely others are interested! Hoping some characters come in soon.

Well, the Eastern half of the continent is compromised, the west is relatively safe and heavily mountainous and the designated evacuation point. I'd say that the casual rating is 45%, though it will rise as the story progresses.

As fir the characters, I hope so too.

I am interested in joining up, but being new here i'm not quite sure what kind of format the roleplay will use, generally free form? Or something more rigid??

Also I was wondering what kind of role the priest would play combat-wise. The whole support the spiritual morale of the troops part isn't so much an issue.

The format for the RPs is almost always consistent here- the GM will make periodic updates which give breath to the plotline, inform(subtly or directly) players what their characters might be doing, etc etc, and then the various cast members of the RP will make their post.

How you phrase and deliver your post is of course entirely up to you, though there is a rule saying you need to at least give some substance to your post. It's not entirely strict, more just a style bred out of trial and error, this one seeming to work.

As for the priest, I'm not the GM or anything, but I assume that even if he/she wasn't a combatant beforehand, they would, as many characters in many settings of many backgrounds have done, try and fight for their survival in whatever way they can, if their player wanted to play them that way.

It's up to you! That's always been my view on things, anyway.

Don't worry about being new- Heresy's a pretty welcoming place. If you have more questions, there's the GM, mods, other posters(including me!) to ask.

(Sorry about the long post. Rants aren't usually my thing.)

It depends on where he originates from: Were he a civilian or PDF priest, he probably wouldn't have fought that much and probably not particularly crazy. We're he attached to the Guard regiments...

Name: Sergeant Gaius Valentine

Home world: Cadia

Age: 26

Role: Sergeant Cadian 375th

Appearance: Valentine stands at 5'11 tall and is broad in the shoulders. He is a broad, strong and very muscular man who is better suited to endurance and feats of strength than to short bursts of speed. This has given him the nickname "Baby Astartes" amongst his friends.

He wears his dark brown hair cropped short in a military fashion and has the same violet eyes as all who come from Cadia. His skin is slightly tanned from many days out in the sun. He has a strong squared jaw line and a tattoo of the Aquila on his left pectoral that mirrors the one embossed on his armour.

He wears standard Cadian pattern armour and fatigues in the colours of the 375th though the Aquila on his chest and helmet are blacked out in regimental custom. He also has standard Cadian issue webbing.

History.

Valentine is a soldier and he is damn good at his job. Like all Cadians he joined the white shield platoons in his teenage years and whilst there won his first regimental hand to hand fighting competition later he was selected for the 375th upon graduation.

He has fought in 2 previous campaigns, once against heretic forces in the Cadia system where he was one of 2 to survive his squad. He spent the rest of the campaign as a member of an ad hoc veteran squad. His second campaign brought him face to face with chaos space marines and the living dead in the vicinity of the Goideler system.

Valentine loves soldiering but prior to leaving Cadia his sweetheart fell pregnant. Having won 6 regimental titles and 2 inter regiment titles in hand to hand he is hoping that he can use his r and r time to perfect his skills and make it back home as an instructor where he can find out if his child lives and pass his knowledge into the next generation of Cadians.

Personality.

Valentine is easy to get along with, he isn't a fan if brown noses or people who put down others to improve their station.

He always looks out for his men and is reluctant to see life wasted.

Valentine is slow to anger and had often said that he does not start fights but he finishes them. He usually lets his stature, bearing and reputation do the talking.

Above all Valentine is a soldier and a professional. He has been fighting and soldiering since he was a white shield at 12 years old. He has seen the horrors or war, chaos space marines and once he fought a pack of the living dead, something he hopes never to see again.

Was has pushed him, he faces another 20 years soldiering or, if he can he will win the next inter regimental competition and return to Cadia and meet his child.

Equipment:
Cadian pattern armour
Fatigues
Non issue gloves with re-enforced knuckle area.

Cadian field webbing containing ; water, spare ammo, compact field shelter(sheet that pops up, fits into a pouch) personal first aid pouch, a couple of emergency ration bars, modified hip scabbard for his short chain blade.

Bayonet
Lasrifle
Non issue Short pattern chain sword

Back pack with spare power cells, spare chain blade for sword, sharpening stone for bayonet, water bladder, spare batteries for radio squad radio, emergency ration bars, lighter, rifle cleaning kit, spare boot laces and waterproof fatigue jacket.

Last of all. Aquila neacklace!

Alright, here we go, stealing the role of priest!! Here to bring the Emperor's righteous fury down upon his foes!! Hope you like it!

Name: Anais Galan

Homeworld: Eydolim - Ultima Segmentum

Age: 26

Role: Ministorum Priest assigned to the 375th Cadian

Appearance: Anais has a strangely pale complexion which gives him an almost sickly appearance. He stands 5’ 12” tall and has pale blonde hair which is pale and ragged compared to the soldiers of the 375th. He is not much of man, sporting a build similar to the vast majority of Cadian Guardsmen, though this seldom reflects his strength. His face is thin with high-set cheekbones and he wears only tattered and dirty bone-white robes, over similar clothing, and his Rosarius (Issued by the Adeptus Ministorum), favouring faith over any real armour. This combination means he seldom looks anything other than physically and mentally spent, even during restful times.

Personality: As with any preacher of the ministorum Anais is zealously devoted to the edicts of the imperial creed. His faith in the divine power of the Emperor is seemingly boundless. Anais cares not for honour, not for his survival of the lives of the soldiers he consoles, he heeds only the emperor’s will, a perfect universe to him is one of blood and fire, where only the faithful stand.

To the members of the Cadian 375th his devotion is synonymous only with madness. His blatant disregard for his own life and those around him has earned him the disdain of the less fatalistic men. To Anais, the Aoisaech border on heresy, their warped view of the purity of imperial creed serving only to drive a wedge between his world and theirs.

Background: The root of his faith can be derived from his homeworld, the Shrine World of Eydolim. Fanatical worship of the Emperor was commonplace ever since he could remember, though whispers of the dark origin of his home were common knowledge. He had not witnessed the Battle of Eagle Gate, the mass invasion of Eydolim by the combined forces of Chaos and its subsequent successful defence by the Imperial Guard and Ultramarines. However, as a child he had been regaled with tales of heroism and of the righteous fury of the emperor made manifest in simple mean. Tales of the Angels of Death, the protectors of the Emperor’s empire and its faithful. Though such stories were rarely celebrated.

It was no surprise then, growing up Anais was another fanatical worshipper of the Emperor and upon coming of age he joined the holy order of the Adeptus Ministorum. His faith in the emperor growing ever-stronger he sought out the ultimate service to his god. He would tend to the Emperor’s armies, the legions of faithful men and women who martyred themselves by the billions to protect his empire. It was then he was stationed with the Cadian 375th and subsequently came to reside on Goideler II.

Wargear: Rosarius, Power Maul (Or a regular mace if that’s to much^^), Laspistol

I like him, not only will he make things interesting; nothing inspires fear of the Emperor like blunt trauma to the head.

Name: Elias Aramus

Homeworld: Goidelaer II

Age: 46

Role: Civil Warden assigned to Faenchal's Stave

Appearance: Elias is an incredibly tall man, standing at 6'5, as well as being lean and lanky. His build is only emphasize by his boney features. While his dark black hair is falling off and balding, he has managed to keep a short beard that is often stained with dirt and gravel. He has been repeatedly described as "creepy" as well as "funny-looking", because of his messy and almost deranged look. He wears a short sleeved white shirt, as well as baggy trousers along with heavy and sturdy shoes. He wears a padded jacket over his clothing, which only provides marginal resistance against the environment.

Personality: The word that best describes Elias is "unhinged". He was once just a normal farmer living on the planet, cultivating his crops and generally living a simple life, but after witnessing the horrors of recent events as well as the gruesome deaths of his family has made him lose his mind somewhat. His hatred of the creatures that destroyed his life knows no bounds, and tends to go on extremely violent rampages that can decimate entire hordes of the infected. Despite his volatile nature, many of the authority figures view him as a necessary evil, his ruthlessness putting the odds in his favor.

Background: Elias was born as the eldest of a farming family with seven children. His father taught him ropes of farm life, about the crops and land, as well as how to handle firearms to defend their home. He spent twenty years of his life helping out his father until he eventually gave the farm over to Elias, as he was too old to run the farm. While Elias' brothers and sisters went off to live their own lives, he stayed in his father's farm, tending to the crops and doing his best to keep it running. He then met a local woman and eventually married her, having three children with her. Life seemed perfect for him.

Then disaster struck. When the space hulk crashed into the planet, Elias life was changed forever. Confusion spread across the planet, with reports of the walking dead approaching his home. In one day, the infected swarmed his home tore his entire family apart. His father, his mother, his wife and children. All dead. He was assumed dead by most of the people that knew him, and he was completely forgotten in the midst of the crisis. He then re-emerged from the wilderness, a completely changed man. He volunteered in the fight against the infected, and shocked his comrades with his sheer bloodlust. His reputation spread amongst the militant forces and he has become notorious for being unpredictable and violent.

Wargear: Stub rifle, sawed off double barreled shotgun, stub revolver, pouch of improvised explosives, large hunting knife
