Everyone has either been involved in one or seen one. That first turn where someone's opponent nearly wipes them off the board. So I wanna know (and I'm sure others would love to hear) about your experience with the brutal first turn.

My personal one was a four way game in 4th edition. We decided on Cleanse and each player ofcourse got one square. I played my Guard and I was across from an Eldar player. On either side of us was a Chaos Space Marine player and a Space Marine player. We rolled for turns and the Eldar player ended up last. The Chaos player who was first humourously said "You know we should rid the board of the Xenos." In joking fashion each of us attacked the Eldar player. Eventhough I didn't have much range on him, I did have 3 Leman Russes. By the time it was the Eldar players turn he had a weapon destroyed Fire Prism Tank (guess which weapon) and everything else was either running off the board, completely destroyed, or a wrecked vehicle.

An absolutely brutal first turn. :ireful2:

It was hilarious and the Eldar player was a good sport about it, eventhough we could tell he was a bit perturbed. So we decided to start over and gave him the first turn automatically. He still got wiped off the board only this time he survived a few turns.

The worst one I have seen was I'm afraid inflicted by myself playing Chaos on on a very nice chap playing Eldar.

It was 2nd edition and the evil Strategy Cards played a big hand in it.
I had managed to get Forced March, you may set up 18" on rather that 12" and Ambush I think one unit may be set up to 24".

I got first turn, back then you had to declare charges.

I did, a lot of them.
Move. Everything bar a Havoc Squad moved.
Shooting. Havocs and Predator drill a Guardian squad thats in the open.

Charge and CC happens and the Eldar player has one mini left on the edge of the table, Fulgrim who is now staring into the eyes of a Bloodthirster and five Flesh Hounds.

Eldar players turn was, take a Terror test, fail test, run off board edge.

2nd Edition could throw near wipe outs before you had a single turn. Strategy Cards had a lot to answer for.

Guard, Squat and Ork players that forgot to buy a Vaccine Squig will remember the dreaded Virus Outbreak card.
After deployment but before first turn roll for each individual mini not wearing enclosed Armour or in a sealed vehicle, 4+ its dead, no save. Test again for each mini within 6" of a mini that dies due to this. It just kept on going till you had a couple of lone guys and vehicles left.

I threw mine across the games room after I pulled it three times trying to play a Guard Player in one night.
A few Months later it was printed in WD that everyone should tear that particular card into little bits.

never delt it out as thats not my play stile and my armys are very much combat or short ranged armys with minium armour. However i NEVER play 3/4 way games because of ganging up like that and i always insit that they become doubbles or i don't play.

I was playing a 1000pt game with my mate recently (me: space wolves, him: imperial guard). He went first, he had two basilisks, took out my Canis and Njarl, nearly half my army and leaving me with pretty much nothing. Game ended in turn three if i remember rightly.
That'll learn me...

Lessons learned:

1. Don't take two expensive Special Characters in a small game.
2. Don't have ICs not attached to ablative wounds.

Back in 2nd edition, but after the removal of the virus outbreak strategy card, you could still take a virus grenade as a wargear card. We had a techmarine with a jump pack and a virus grenade, hiding behind a wall. He jump packs forward, rips out the pin with his teeth, and hurls the virus grenade at the great green tide before him. Then, to our great joy, and our opponents misery, the Orks began to stagger and fall, just a few at first, then more, and more, and more. Until there were some mega-armored Nobz, and a few vehicles left standing. The entire ork army was gone except for maybe 200-250 pts, while our entire space marine army was poised to demolish the remainder.

50 pt virus grenade = 50 pt immuno squig
50 pt virus grenade + no immuno squig=2000pts of dead orks.

Back in 4th ed (that's a long time ago to me :p), before the new SM codex, I was facing a guy who I was later informed was a well known cheater. I let him set up terrain, he loaded the entire map (sepecially my side) with LOS-blocking buildings. He was using marines and I had 'crons. He took some armywide ability so that all of his units could scout, and took an entire army of assault marines, putting them all about 12-13" away behind the buildings. First turn, his entire army jumps out from their hidey-holes and launches an assault on every single one of my units. I lost every combat and my entire army fled, getting run down every time, so by the end of the first turn my army was gone. Naturally, it was the last time I ever faced him.

Playing a game in GW on thursday and had a crazy first turn, chimeras hitting with 5 out of 6 shots, battlecannons bang on target, meltas slagging his landraider etc, the only reason the guy had troops left at the end of the first turn was because they were in 3+ cover and I'd reduced him to 5 tac marines, 2 sniper scouts, 3 missile launcher armed devastators, 4 TH/SS terminators and a immobilised dread behind a building before he even got a turn.

I felt bad... :(

Back when Tau first came out, I played someone with an absolute railcheese army, 2 railheads and I'm pretty sure a few broadsides. I was playing with my mates Orks as I was contemplating starting them.

By the end of turn one, I had basically a warboss and a few boys left after he shot me to shit. In fact I was that badly beaten I didn't even make his enemy lines, not one singe combat.

I didn't really have a grasp of tactics back then though as I was pretty young.
