The Baneful Sabres Chapter
1st Great Company Valorous – Only in death, do we earn our redemption.
2rd Great Company Vigorous – against the traitor, our blades never tire.
3rd Great Company Vigilance – We are the eyes that guard our chapter.
4th Great Company Venerable - We Honour the empire, which has forsaken us.
5th Great Company Vendetta – With our last breath, we will avenge our brothers.
The Baneful Sabres Chapter labelled excommunicate traitoris. Being the proud and noble descendants of the Iron Hands Legion, possess a long glorious combat record in the name of the emperor of mankind. That was until a traitor; Markus Tylenicus took the high office of High Marshal of The Baneful Sabre. Before that dark day, the chapter had proved themselves to be everything that an Astarte’s should aspire to. But a sickness had festered within the hearts of many of the chapter’s marines, a flesh weakness that no amount of mechanical augmentation could irradiate. One characteristic, which had proven to be one of the chapter’s greatest attributes, had proven to be a weakness, ambition.
Markus Tylenicus ascended to rank of High Marshal in dubious circumstances. Upon the death of a High Marshal, a successor is elected to the position by the chapters Marshal’s, Lt’ Marshal’s, veteran wardens and wardens. Any officer maybe selected by his brothers to run for election. On this occasion only two brothers where selected for the contest; Markus Tylenicus Marshal of 5th Company Vendetta and Titus Morinus Lt’ Marshal of 3rd Company Vigilance. Despite being only Lt’ Marshal, Titus Morinus was an exemplar of the chapters doctrines and passions; and the only true threat to Tylenicus’s ambitions.
Once the votes had been counted a tie was declared between the two aspiring high Marshals, 55 to Tylenicus and 55 to Morinus. This was a first in the chapters seven and a half thousand year history and almost split the chapter a sunder. After days of biter feuding the Chapters Chaplin convent decided that the contest should be decided with a duel. Tylenicus had no intention of losing this contest of skill and was unsure of who was the better swordsman. Tylenicus persuaded Morinus’s Tech Marine to reprogram the servitors in his arming chamber to create a weakness in Morinus’s chest-plat. The contest rules where first man to ground loses and ran for seven rounds to be shore as to who deserved to lead. During the fifth round, when each man was tied Tylenicus thrusted hard into the weak spot of Morinus’s armour, piecing long ways into both of Morinus’s hearts. By the skill of 3rd Company Vigilance apothecaries Morinus lived, but Tylenicus new he would still posed a threat his ambitions as long as he drew breath.
Many in the chapter disapproved of Tylenicus’s appointment to high marshal and Tylenicus kept a scrutinizing eye on those he thought might so decent. After he had solidified his position and side-lined those he deemed untrustworthy, it was now time for Tylenicus to expand his influence in the wider imperium. The chapter being fleet base made sure that its rapid expansion went all but unnoticed. Tylenicus began claiming new aspirants in mass; with every new crusade he bolstered his forces even more. In just one hundred and seventy years he had amassed over two thousand loyal marines, far outnumbering those of the chapter still loyal to the emperor.
The time had now come for Tylenicus to rid his chapter of all that would oppose him. By then Titus Morinus had been elected to Marshal of 3rd Company, despite Tylenicus’s scheming to either kill or disgrace him. Of the original 5 Great Companies, Tylenicus only trusted the commander of 5th Great Company Vendetta; the rest would have to be spewed away. This would be of little concern as Tylenicus had the 10 new black companies as well as the 1st and 5th at his command. His final hammer blow would land above the chapter recruitment world of Banderus 3, as the five original companies massed above the planet to purge an ork incursion the rest of Tylenicus’s dark army immerged from the warp and surrounded there pray. Over the coms Tylenicus gave the Loyalists one chance to surrender and join his dark crusade in the name of dark gods. The three Marshals refused in the face of insurmountable odds and prepared to meet their end with honour. The Battle above Banderus was short but not lacking in intensity, the 4th company’s battlebarge rammed and destroyed three of the black company’s vessels in a last desperate attempt to take as many traitors with them as possible. With only Morinus’s Battlebarge left he decided to withdraw into the warp so he could report the high marshal’s heresy and return with the forces to end his former master.
Morinus had hoped for a chance to save his chapters honour, but the dark gods had other plans. His battlebarge had sustain massive damage in the battle and as soon as they enter the warp fowl demons assailed his already battle weary men. Plague bearers swarmed the bridge, quickly slaying the ships navigator. Morinus’s men bravely beat back the first attack, but with no navigator the ship and her company where doomed to wonder the warp until they could guess a safe translation point. For them it had been a matter of weeks, but for them imperium many long years had passed.
After drifting in space for weeks the survivors where finally located by a Mechanicus explorer fleet. The fleet’s magos explained to Morinus what had happened to the rest of his chapter, they had been hunted down and scattered. Somewhere believed to have joined the red crosiers the others had fled into the eye of terror. The chapter had been branded excommunicate traitoris, and Morinus and the survivors would surely be killed with they were discovered by the inquisition. The Magos gave the Marshal a proposition, the magos offered to help him repair ship broken ship in return for guarding his fleet. Mechanicus fleet had taken heavy losses in a battle with the eldar and would benefit greatly from a battle barge to bolster his calls; which was the reason he gave to Morinus but the magos had other more nefarious reasons for wanting an excommunicated company space marines at his bacon call.
Morinus gave a passionate speech to remnants of the 3rd and 2rd companies; he pleaded for them to stay on-board the battlebarge. He promised a chance at redemption, a chance to rebuild and regain the honour of their chapter. Then men called for Morinus to lead them as the new high Marshal but Morinus refused to sware the same oaths as the brothers that betrayed them. Together with two companies wardens they took the 5 virtues their chapter was founded upon and made new oaths for the chapter to sware upon.
im laying the ground work with the fluff to do an allied army if i get bord with it just being marines as im already doing HH death guard. plus im sure there have to be some good marine ad mech combos out there.
let me know what you guys think, im open to any ideas or criticism.
