Terminator assault squads can have either tank hunter or furious charge, but wouldn't that mean that they effectly have tanking during their first turn? So isn't it pointless to take tank hunting in an termie assault when its more than likely you will destroyed the tank in one round? (Armed with thunder hammers ofcourse)

they can have tank hunter right? that gives them a bonus attacking tanks. if there are 5 TH, than they probably will destroy it, but as theyre vets they can still take it, and as a player it makes sure they definately destroy it.

it might be pointless, but it might suit a fluffy army or someone who exclusuvely plays against an armoured complany for exapmle

Fluff wise its good for my fists but i lack alot of close combat punch so i'm putting in a unit with two lightning claws and three thunder hammers, i think furious assault may be best since is effectivly gives tank hunting on the turn the terminators charge the vechicle, this probably would of been best in the tactics section.

It's a waste of pts to give a unit of th furious assault. +1 init ia wasted and you increase their str from 8 to 9. Having 5 termies with th charge in with 3 attk ea at str 8 is good enuff. Bring along a chaplain to re-roll the misses on the charge. you will get enuff hits and chances to glance or pen. I roll with 4 lightning claws and 1 th in my assault sqd unit. I always bring along a chappy. re-roll to hit on charge and re-roll to wound is insane. I hammer in case a vehicle is in the way.

Its not a unit of thunder hammers its two lightning claws and three thunder hammers, i have a conversion in mind for my terminator captain so i don't really want a chaplain, but i will definately consider taking one instead. Can't see how initiative 5 and strength 5 is a waste on lightning clawed terminators though.

Edit- I have changed the list now to add the chaplain but i still think the furious charge is worth it in the long run, since they then strike simultainiously with other space marines commanders and wound them on 3s.

(Could a mod move this to the tactics discussion its more that than about the rule now.

Completely agree with you here WoT, having the 8~10 LC attacks especially against another vet squad and other I5 commanders is a bonus, but to get furious charge you really gotta think about how you position your termies in-game and how you use them to make sure you get that charge

Furious Charge is the better buy, IMO, regardless of what the squad is actually armed with. You get the same effect with the bonus strength against vehicles (you're always charging, after all.) as you would with Tank Hunters, and when you're fighting against infantry, you're picking up that nice I5 with the models that aren't swinging hammers or fists. Not bad, as people have said, for picking on characters.

I was referring to all th sqd. you implied in 1rst post.yes.furious charge is obviously a must get with majority of ltng claw in the sqd. Still best to have a chaplain with though.
best to have riding in a land raider/crusader. if teleport in,then run risk of getting shot up. Init 5 is very helpful.

FYI... Developers have stated before that you may choose to not use the Thunder Hammer, Powerfist, or whatever other weapon makes you Init 1 and use you base Str (5 with FC) at normal Init (I5 with FC in this case) to make your attacks you just woundnt get the benefits of those weapons (ergo no double str or ignoring armor saves). Im not sure where I read this but I believe it was in the FAQ or WD somewhere but I am positive I read it somewhere official. I am just unable to look while at work. Not that it makes it that much more usefull...
