I am assembling my new SM army, right?

I loved the termie sprues, there was very little flash on them.

HOWEVER! When clipping out that bit of the head, those two side-things that sit on either side of the thing in the center, i find it hard to get it smooth.

Any tips on cutting that damned head out w/o messing these up?

I can't quite see what you mean from the picture Amphicar, but that said for akward bits I use Emery Paper (I don't know if its called that in the States, also known as wet and dry but its fine sand paper for metal work.)
Maybe a picture of one thats not been cleaned up will make it clearer?

when you clip it from the sprue leave plenty of flash/sprue (whatever you want to call it_ attached to the head and then slowly remove it a bit at a time from the back of the head to the front. Follow the natural contours of the head and only remove a little at a time. Try using one of the emery boards/ buffer pads (ask your wife/girlfriend/sister/mother - they use them to buff their nails) It is like very fine sandpaper stuck on an ice cream stick.

Good luck mate. 8)
