This will be one of our three releases of plug-in unit rules from the Stealth Cadre fan codex. Unfortunately, we won't be supporting 7th edition and beyond for the Stealth Cadre fan codex as a whole, but these three units will be maintained for future editions, as standalone choices.

They are meant to "plug in" directly to your army list and fit on one page. Thus, the writing style will depart ever so slightly from the very condensed 6th style as we have to fit all relevant information on the same page.

The XV22 Commander has a unique work in progress warlord traits table, but these are not properly balance tested yet, and also 7th ed. looms on the horizon with rumoured changes to this aspect.

Old XV22 commander thread (4th ed.)

Q: Which is the better option among the following two?
  • Bodyguard have sworn protector USR (2 points more expensive per model)
  • Bodyguard may buy a bonding ritual upgrade and through doing so gain sworn protector (3 pts more cost - slightly fluffier)

Your feedback is as usual welcome

Schedule for future units:
June: Kroot Nocturnal Carnivores (Kroot who have adapted to night strikes and sabotage missions)
July/ August: -classified- :taunt:

This isn't ranting!

Interesting idea and i will try and playtest some of the options when i can. I've literally just started building up some tau to make a stealthsuit heavy army and i wanted to use a counts as shadownsun, but this is much better :victory:

Could i ask why the bodyguard don't have the sworn protector SR?

I have to balance my ranting with some useful stuff from time to time

And you caught something I forgot! I was going to add the following question to the thread:

What is the best option among the following:

  • Bodyguard have sworn protector USR (2 points more expensive per model)
  • Bodyguard may buy a bonding ritual upgrade and through doing so gain sworn protector (3 pts more cost - slightly fluffier)

The reason being the highly individualistic nature of XV25s as portrayed in the fluff. The idea being that these particular XV25 have been through a few more theatres than your average Stealth Suit pilot and gained a greater appreciation for teamwork and unity.

Tiny change: I would say that the XV25 suit bodyguard MUST take one weapon at the cost listed.
Yes! You're absolutely right. I have no idea how that one snuck by me, I blame my playtesting buddy who secretly wants me to bring naked Tau to battle.

EDIT: The .pdf has been updated to make the weapon for bodyguards mandatory.

I like the second idea best, since they already have better access to wargear they should be at least a little pricier than standard xv25. And fluffy is always better :victory:

Updated 12th of June ;D (The PDF is updated, the preview pic is still the old one, for comparison's sake)

-Due to playtesting experience, the Rail Rifle options were roughly doubled in cost, and the missile pod options slightly made cheaper.
-Both choices gain acute senses and stubborn
-Minor points increase to the Bodyguards
-Bonding ritual unlocking Sworn Protector condition added to bodyguard
-Unwhispered approach moved from the Stealth Cadre special rules (not released yet anyway, and is a separate codex) to allow more stealth-based armies to use the standard codex

And that's exactly what happened :)

They also gained stubborn. We figured a couple of frontline Shas'Vres would turn crotchety from surviving long enough to become a commander's bodyguard
