I love these little pain in the asses..people will go out of their way to kill 'em..played yesterday..against Necrons..he rushes into Close Combat..I figure..well there goes the frisbees..but NO..they hold the line!! And even manage to wound him..oh the laughter!

Down he goes..only to return on his next turn..the frisbees bee line for him..shoot..wounding and pinning..then close for some more ramming in close combat..for a victory!!

I neglect this type of unit all the time..I use them as shields..and to harass..but now I'm thinking of some different tactics.

Oh the joy.

frisbees are actually one of the best assault units in the Tau list, thanks largely to their I4 and 4+ save. The low WS hardly makes an impact

I like to use piranha mounted drones to die up heavy weapon squads (or once, a defiler) since the little fishies are open-topped it means they can assault on disembark.

I do the same thing as Gal. Generally deploy them from my 3 Piranhas as a 6 model unit and go after units to tie them up. They may die but they can also go the distance and hold off things for just long enough.

Gun drone uses:
Assassin (Cheap, and therefore easy to get loads of. Throw them all at the opponents independent characters and your in buisness!)

Kamikaze (Launch them against things like warhound titans, stompas and greater daemons, get a hit or 10 and watch them be slaughtered)

Troop killers (Pulse carbines+jump infantry=Troop slaghterers!)

Shields (No explanation needed really, put them in front of your fire warriors/battlesuits/snipers/anything really and watch the drones get slaughtered instead of your other units, tee-hee!)

Frisbees (For if your fire warriors get bored :))

played a game last night against the Blood Angels. i deep striked my frisbees in pinned a unit of space marines, then tied up his HQ for two turns before the pinned space marines finally got into the fray. it was the best 60 points of distraction ever! it made up for my kroot blowing up a speeder and killing them selves in the explosion :(

I just love them too! i even take a unit of them if ive got nothing better to do with a FA slot. they're often neglected by the opponent, make excelent sheilds (theyre jet packs so you start in front of a unit of fws jump behind 4 some shooting then jump back to take the charge. otherwise i use them as moving walls that assault the most dangerous looking thing around if possible..

I use drones all the time. Great for shielding units from fire and assaults, forcing pinning tests, and eating up your opponent's resources eliminating them among other things. I use shield drones as well on almost every high value unit. The extra saves can make a difference! One of the best low cost units in the Tau list. Just a great overall pain in the butt for your opponent if used correctly. Don't spread the "Greater Good" without them!

Gun drones are awesome. This is really nice since a lot of box sets come with a couple of drones. :victory:

gun drones are great for holding up annoying units who are then left out in the open for more firepower to hit them when they finish off the gun drones. Using them to take out leaders is also good, I managed to kill a Space marine commander who had already killed half my fire warriors by mobbing him with drones.

my drones came in handy again in a game last night. dropped em, off a devilfish and used to to shield my deathrain squad from some orks. kept the deathrains alive and they managed to take out several killer cans :)

sniper drones are also awsome. I recently played this big competition game where there were 20 players each of whom were allowed to take one option apart from HQ choices out of any codex. Winner was the person who got the most kill points, one kill point per unit destroyed. I took a sniper drone team and managed to win the competition with 6 kill points. And as a prize got Inqusitor Coetez and retinue free. FREEEEE!!

the key to drones though is to not rely on them. If you are depending on them to take out the big baddy they will not. if you just happen to throw them at the big baddy to see what happens or to just tie him up for one more turn, they will do some damage. keep them outside your main plan of attack and just see where they can be most useful.

I agree. They are most useful as an added little bonus aside from your main plan.
