Well, the fact that Tau use indoctorinated humans left behind by the damocleas crusade as an auxilury force is established tau fluff. GW's done some articles on it, including docterines for them (though their choices were lame and I'm not using them)

I'm thinking of fielding a very small detachment of taued up IG to go alongside a main tau force. Something that'll complement it without being unfluffy and without sucking.

I'm thinking I'll need grenadiers (both to reduce my number of modls/points for troops and to represent advanced tau gear and training), maybe carapace armor (for the command platoon, mianly) after that I'm wide open.

Only thing is, I;d like to field at least a few sentinels, because they;re mechy and will be fun to convert wiht battlesuit bits

give the sentinels either lascannons or multilasers - if using the guard rules for them. Fulffwise the tau dont like the crude somkeybangyness of auto weapons

other than that us youre using stormtroopers give them plasma or meltas, of if not weapons with more than a 30' range as i understand that is one thing they really lack.

Sniper drones are much superior to IG snipers. I'd favor armageddon sentinels (lascannon) simply because the mobile heavy firepower would fit well with Tau and I could even model it with a cut-down broadside railgun instead of a lascannon.

I'm thinking about the trait that gives them extra WS and gives the sentinels an extra attack. Not super Tau-fluffy, bit handy and gives me an excuse to give the sentinels battlesuit arms ;-)

Drop troops would be fluffy (Have them deploying from mantas, using high tech tau grav chutes or something, and fits with tau tactics) Especially with the close combat docterine. Have them dropped in to support infiltrating stealths or as backup for deepstriking battlesuits

I think a small command platoon (A sentinel squad and a couple special weapon teams) wiht carapace and drop troops, backed by two stormtrooper squads (probably on foot since I can't drop them and they can't infiltrate if they're bought as troops)) and mayne a squadron or two of sentinels...

You could use sentinels with twin linked railguns on them. Just add on the Tau powerpacks and other bits from the broadside suits. The suits only move and shoot with the ASS upgrade which you should add to the units to keep them"fluffy" as you say. As for the troops just use some Tau Firewarrior pulse rifles, uniform and equipment bits. I really don't see a problem from a rules and codex angle.

You could convert some crude anti-gravitaional device on the tanks instead of tracks. Paint blue tatos their skin .

I think you've got a handle on what you'd like conversion-wise...

Doctrinewise, I might toss in Iron Discipline to reflect indoctrination into the philosophy of the Greater Good.

MAYBE (although it's iffy) "Veterans" to allow more squads packing multiple special weapons.

Sharpshooters never hurts, and could reflect improved targeting equipment.

Mechanised is like Veterans... I bring it up in case it fits something you want to do tactically, and if you love converting tanks.

Grenadiers and Carapace Armor both fit the general idea.

If I were gonna do it?

My five would be Iron Discipline, Sharpshooters, Carapace Armor, Grenadiers, and then one that fits the build you want in terms of models, like Drop Troops, Mechanised, or one of the bought-back unit types.

I'm positive I've seen rules for indoctrinated tau guardsmen but I can't for the life of me think where. It could have been a white dwarf issue but could have been online somewhere. Either way give the guard whatever doctrines they had when they were in an Imperial Regiment. Fluff wise, men aren't just going to forget their training i.e close order drill or sharpshooters.

im converting the AOBR space marines, or i will somehow try.
thinking of gluing any spare weapons on my termies. should be fun!
My fluff to this is that the 5th squad thingy (me forget) of the ultras stumbled upon a ancient russian ship which had communist teachings in it. the SM agreed to this more than the dictatorship of the emperor, and therefore switched to the most communist race they knew, the tau

Hmm i see, i think it also depends on how you see the tau.

I se them as an evil empire using the greater good to push there own desires forward, the main one being rules of the galaxy and all other races subservent to the tau in peace. I also see them replacing native humans over time with tau with steralization and such. SO i see them as evil.

As such they would have little to no reguard for human life.

I would take conscripts with a comisar modeled as a tau.
also HQ choices would be tau, and thus have better gear than the rest.

to support the conscripts i would see standard troop squads representing left overes form the military.

i would also use flame sentinels..because i think there awsome.

i would avoid units like elites and specialist units as i don't see the auxillary being as well equpoed as an original guard force. the same would go for tanks, and if i did have tanks they would be battle worn and older models of tanks.

but seems i am alone in viewing the tau as such.

my doctrens

Iron will
Concripts
Close order drill(represents desperation not to be captured and put to death as a heritict.)
Drop troops
Independent commisars.

not qute the greneder squads you where thinking of. but as mentioned i see tau as evil.

I love that idea! The way it goes in my head would be that the guardsmen have probably lived with the Tau for awhile and although they're taking on aspects of the Tau military i.e. equipment and drilling etc the guards the guard and they'll be sticking to what they know best in some cases.

I'm thinking along the lines of mixing and matching things sort of like they have their old IG uniforms on but with Tau additions, perhaps communicative headgear device or you could even add Tau symbology to guard gear. Like they've daubed their old lasgun with a sept icon.

Good luck with it whatever you do I'm sure you'll enjoy it, I'd love to see how it turns out!
