So I was thinking of doing a Tau army based on an Auxiliary force, so two big squads of kroot with hounds and riders, a long with some vespids. Additionally I'd have an ethereal with a bodyguard of firewarriors in a devilfish.

Eventually I was thinking of converting a greater knarloc beasts (one with bow) into a knarloc riptide, with a heavy burst cannon in place of the bolt thrower and a generator on the back manned by the second kroot rider. For battle suits I was thinking of using the knarloc riders from forgeworld with some sort of crude exoskeleton on the riders with the suit weapons etc, not certain though so was just wondering what you thought.

Sounds good, I would also look at using Fire Warrior rules for some Gue'Vesa or Dog Soldiers and then do some kit bashing, somewhere in the home brew section is come entires I came up with for a Auxy force, take a look through them for some ideas.

The battlesuits would be tough, but if you think you could pull them off, I'll trust you on that. Why not some other new alien race for the Tau, though, rather than some elaborate kroot apparatus?
