Ever since I was given a Dark Angels battleforce as a gift I’ve struggled to make a greenwing army work. It has never really performed as well as I have hoped. Since my marines aren’t painted green to begin with, but instead in gray urban camouflage, I thought I’d see if the Raven Guard would be the way to go after all. I honestly don’t know.

TALON STRIKE FORCE

Pinion Battle Demi-Company

Chapter Master; 1xThunderhammer, Shield Eternal, Artificer armor & Jump pack 245
8xAssault Squad 136

5xTactical Squad; 1xGrav cannon 105 (with Scouts has Outflank & Ignores cover)

5xScout Squad 55
5xScout Squad 55

5xTactical Squad; 1xLascannon 90
5xScout Squad; 4xSniper rifle, 1xVet.Sgt Upgrade & Nihilus rifle, 84
5xDevastator Squad; 4xPlasma cannon 130 (Gets ignores cover from sniper scouts)

Shadowstrike Kill Team

10xVanguard; 2xPowerfist, 4xLightning Claw, 6xStorm Shield, 2xPowersword & Bolt pistol, 2xPower axe & Bolt pistol, 4xMelta bombs 370
5xScouts; 1xMelta bombs 60
5xScouts; 1xMelta bombs 60

Raptor Wing

Stormtalon Gunship; 1xTwin-linked Lascannon & Assault cannon 125
Stormtalon Gunship; 1xTwin-linked Lascannon & Assault cannon 125
Land Speeder; 2xMulti-melta 70

INQUISITION DETACHMENT

Inquisitor; 3xServo skulls 34

Total 1849pts

Here I tried to make an army that would be somewhat consistent fluffwise, but still be able to have at least something against most opponents, be they vehicles, fliers or monstrous creatures. I would want this army to be at least somewhat competitive, though no doubt my “Crimson Fists” Gladius Strike force remains the stronger of the two. Mostly with this army I am concerned about the lack of objective secured units. But I do like the bonuses from Talon Strike Force, the ability to outflank and plentiful Ignores cover as well as the possibility to get turn 1 assaults with deep striking Vanguard veterans.

As always any advice is welcome.

The list looks pretty optimized, though I don't think I have ever lost a game solely to ObSec and I rarely if ever have units with the rule in my armies.

What unit are you going to put the Inquisitor in, or are you just going to hide him from giving up First Blood and use his Skulls for the scatter bonus?

Thanks for the input. Having played Gladius strike force for a while now and even though I don't use the double demi-company set up, I am still used to having a lot of ObSec units on board. This army will need a different approach, but I think it might actually be more fun to play.

As for the inquisitor, he is there solely for the scatter reduce for both the vanguard and the plasma cannons. I though that a bit more reliability on the DS scatter for such an expensive unit wouldn't hurt, especially since I already own the inquisitor model. I'll probably hide him in the devastator squad, they are battle brothers after all.

As for the Vanguard themselves. I am still tweaking the unit. Here is an alternate weapon load out for them. Its just 10pts more. I don't know if it's better. I am sacrificing the initiative here, but power fists and thunder hammers are the weapons that do most of the heavy lifting anyway and marine initiative is mediocre to begin with.

10xVanguard; 2xThunder hammer, 4xPowerfist, 6xStorm Shield, 4xCC weapon & Bolt pistol 380
