In the blood angels codex, storm bolter isn't listed on the baal's wargear, yet the box pics and such show a guy manning one, and the set comes with the bits for it. Is it not allowed or did GW just forget to put it in there?

I would think that they could, considering that they can be on any other chapter's predators. I don't know for sure, but if there's a picture on the box, then I think it's alright. If 'Eavy Metal can do it, you can. ^^

well, I think its pretty good if matched with the HB sponsoons. My Armoured battlegroup has an exterminator with 3 HBs, the TL autocannon and a storm bolter, and absolutly SHREDS anything it comes up against. The Baal (with one HB missing, but an TL ass cannon) should fill a similar role

no he isn't, that is the pintle one, and you have to buy the storm bolter

@ Dirge Eterna: I do too, but I was short on points. With the hvy stubber, I can fire more str. 4 shots at a further distance for just 2 points extra. And people say its the crappest heavy weapon! (oh, wait, it is...)

It can take heavy flamers or heavy bolters. Against any heavy armored troops, the flamers are clown shoes. Run a pair of those babies into a nid or ork force.... CALIENTE!

Flamers are TERRIBLE!

You NEVER want to get that close to the enemy. Not to mention the fact that it's almost impossible to land both flamers on the same target because they're mounted on opposite sides of the vehicle.

Long story short: Your Baals should never emit a burning discharge. Instead you want to be able to unload them in the face of your enemy while remaining well out of arm's reach.

As to the question itself, yes you can buy a pintle mount storm bolter, but it costs more because the designers (rightly) figured that the additional shots would add more to the vehicle's primary role (as anti-inf) than they would to most other tanks

Galahad is correct here. A Baal predator should never have heavy flamer sponsons. Note that they have the same str and ap of heavy bolters but only work when the enemy is in charge range of your tank.

A pintle mounted storm bolter (taken in addition to the aforementioned sponsons) is quite a good idea on a baal. It gives the thing 12 shots, which is a lot of shots. For the amount it costs I'd say it's almost a no-brainer to stick pintle storm bolters on all BA and DA tanks actually.

Hard to say, really. They're nice for 5 pts, but alas they're double that for the Baal...

Do you have anything else that would benefit from that 10 pts?

For example, a meltagun for a squad would be alot more useful. Even if it never kills anything, it might discourage a tank from coming near an objective or a special character from approaching brazenly....
