I started to write short stories about my space marine chapter and needed some advice on what a space marines personality is like. I kinda figure it's like a cross between a 300 Spartan, a halo Spartan and Soap Mctavish from call of duty mod warfare. Cybernetic leonidas with a bad ass Mohawk. So if you have any ideas postem here, I know that space marines are mindless killing machines but they have to have some sort of personality right?

Ahab's right, they all have peronalities, even the mindless killing ones.

Id say they are a lot more than just Greek Spartans, Halo spartans (ill assume you mean spartan 2's like master cheif and not the rumoured Spartan class 3 in the new Reach game), and 'Soap' Mctavish. you'd have Knights and religous fighters in the mix as well, Basically they are all the most famous warrior class from history in there.

Uhm Good Space Marines as they said some just like to kill while others are Like Templars just all round badass loyalty to the emperor and will destroy anything that threatens him pretty much so in my opinion Killers,Religous Zealots, and Calm collective Warriors that are cold and have a sense of honor.

On an aside halo reach takes place before the first halo, so chief is actually Spartan 3 that's why he has the most recent mark armor instead of that rediculous fall damage armor. So john, what your saying is they will fight in the shade? My marines are loyal to the man god and pay there dues, though there actions are questioned by the inquisition they still stand by humanity in the struggle for the universe.

Are you sure? Reach happened before the first halo game and master chief is part of the navy.

I am sure. The chief and the other Spartan II had been active for decades prior to the delta halo incident.

Last KNOWN surviving SpartanII. There are 3 others; Fred, Linda and Ashely. There are several others that are not accounted for which includes the members of gray team and the Spartans stationed on the UNSC Spirit of Fire.

Fred, Linda, and Ashely have a pulse don't they? Then they still live. Besides. That still leaves gray team and the Spirit of Fire crew.

MC is a Spartan 2 more like the precursor to a Space Marine while the rumored Spartan 3's are more like the precursors to the vindicare temple assasins.the S3's do not use the mjolnir power armor but a unpowered environReactive stealth suit that allows them to be very stealth and hop up and stab ppl to death.

Little known fact, Sergeant Johnson is actually a spartan 1, and was involved in the first and last battles of the covenent wars.

Well the last part was true. I don't think Johnson was in the Spartan 1 program.

NO i was simply saying that the space marines are a blend of all the greatess warroir class that history, and our future will know.

As for MC hes a spartanII, also known as John-117 (watch halo legands theres a shot of him with 117 on his armour, hes also called John by Doc. Halsey), he was recuited before the events of reach, and is the last Known surviving SpartanII.

The SpartanIII program came about because the UNSC High Command seeing that altho the S2's where great on the feild, there where too few of them to make a difference in the greater scheme of the war, they where extremly expensive to produce, and Halsey had postponed the program because of the specific geneic requiments of children been for the program. It is effective a Program desided to make cheaper and more numerous supersolider

It is true that most S3's where a Semi-Powered Infiltration Armor. Which is like beefed up ODST armour with a optical camo feature, but is less advanced and less powerful than MJOLNIR armour, however is cheaper to produce. Nobel team (the focus of the Reach game) do wear MJOLNIR armour (Mark V(B)) developed for SPECWAR Group Three.

Ok this has gone of subject but regarding the personalities of a Space Marine that can always vary depending on the Chapters history and homeworld. If you haven't read the novel Salamanders by Nick Kyme I suggest you should as it has a good example of two different chapters with there different personalities
