I'm pretty paranoid since addition of flyers (damn you Heldrakes :p) and I'm thinking what would do the best job of clearing airspace while providing some support to ground forces when there is no air target. I was mainly thinking of double Hunters vs a single Stormtalon with Lascannons as they cost the same but I heard some interesting opinions of their usfulness. I would love to hear Your opinion in that matter though (ideally supported with personal experience - I just love hearing about unit uses on the actual battlefield :p).

Well... There is no indication od having penalty for shooting a ground target. There is just a paragraph at the Skyspear Missile rule saying that special ability of missile apply only to flyers (the 5+ ability to catch target if missed) so I think it's normal BS.

I'd take a Stormraven over any of those options, but a Stormtalon will be much more versatile with the current incarnation of Skyfire/Interceptor. That Hunter is never shooting at full BS at a non flyer/swooping MC/skimmer, whereas the Stormtalon can do what it pleases.

Also, Heldrakes ain't shit in 7th from what I have experienced (faced 1 in my last and 2 in the one before). I am absolutely in love with the end of their reign of terror over my battlefields.

Typically sky fire weapons only shoot at full bs when shooting flyers in 7th. It's why I am asking.
Indeed You are right. I just skimmed over the top of Hunter rules and did not even bothered to open 7th edition rulebook. He fires only snapshots at ground targets, which is a bit usless... Guess that answers my question - Stormtalon it is.

As for Heldarkes - I was completely ruined when faced this stupid dinobot few weeks after their addition.

Heldrakes can only do one vector strike hit now. Thier weapon became hull mounted again instead of 360 from the base. So they lost a lot of the broken aspect they had in 6th. They still can be annoying, just not broken annoying.

The changes to Interceptor pretty much shelved my Aegis Defense Line w/ Quad Cannon. During 6th it was a auto include in my lists.

Oh this, so much.

With the nerf of the Heldrake, Flyers have become almost completely irrelevant in my meta since you can bring better guns on your land units (yes, that includes Night Scythes - true, you get your Objective Secured dudes jumping out of it, but when it's 10pts less for an Annihilation Barge and there are unlimited detachments? Yeah, you'd be mad to bring more than one or two Scythes). Their movement restrictions are just too limiting. The few that do appear with any regularity are my pair of Dakkajets, although in the 7th ed Ork book I'm leaning more towards Blitza-Bommas, purely because they bring *something* unique in the Ork book (reliable anti-light armour - Lootas can do the same job, but rarely as well), and it's not hard to bring down Dakkajets with Boltguns or even trying your luck with special weapons.

What would You think of bare Stormtalon with Assault Cannon and Heavy Bolter? They would be relatively cheap allowing me to bring them in tandems while Assault Cannon and their mobility would be main threat.
