I playing around with starting SoH and here is my first test mini
should I keep this green or go darker,keep in mind this is a basecoat with wash

Yeah... I'd grey it up a bit. If you look at the newer artwork (which, IMO, is much more impressive than the old pale green) they're almost a normal grey, with only hints of the green. I'd try something like a 50% black 30% grey 20% green mix as the basecoat and work from there.

as much as i hate to be pernickity, what marks of armour are they? if the one on the left is meant to be mark 6, then its post heresy, and has mark 8 legs.

if the one on the right is mark 5, then the kneepads and helmet are wrong.

i think.

otherwise, the paintjob is good, but inking like that just gives a dirty quality. watch the areas you ink and look to the recesses.

the one with the crest is supposed to be mk3
the bald guy is hybrid mk4 with mk6 legs
Here is the new test mini a new recipe that is a little better

I think I got it here well thats what I'm using anyway
adeptus battlegrey and goblin green

thanks guys for steering me toward grey It is alsmost exactly like my favorite soh pic in the book

The guy on the far left looks the best, with the armour being seperated by the greenish color.

Good job, eisenhorn.

PS-How did you do those parts where the armour plates meet? Carefully makes lines at the spots with a well tipped brush?
