Hello all. I know that this section is hardly the liviest on the forums, so I was thinking about things which could help to bring more people here. The first of which was a competition, whether that would include painting up a model or army, or creating rules for your own character I do not know. The second was some more interactive things, perhaps like a "guru" where people can ask for advice and a said member answering accordly, or something else along those lines. Another was like that in General Fantasy/40K, which helps people to decide on what race/army they want to play, giving a select amount of information and some pictures to kindle their interest.

Anybody else like to throw something in? Obviously I can't help as such due to me not being into this actual gaming system, but I thought that you bunch who are dedicated to this section would perhaps find it interesting.

I think we could do both, just do an army, a basic paint scheme for your average model in that army, an evaluation of their good sides and bad sides in both gaming systems and maybe a sample army list and the cost and best way to buy it.

Sounds like a plan to me. I like the painting comp idea though.

Yeah, begginers thing sounds good. Should someone (Notice the fact I said not the word 'I') post a seperate thread for whoever wants to do which army? I'll put my head on the block :suicide: and say 'I could probably do Mordor or Isengard, I'm pretty learned in them even though I've never played the game properly' (I knew all of those years reading WD and looking at that terrible website called GW would pa off...).

Midnight

EDIT: Maybe Elven Kingdoms, I'm looking at them on the interweb right now...

i can help too. I have a whole pile of LOTR Battle reports on an old site as well as 2 that i haven't ever put up on a site. I can also do reviews of pro's and cons of various modals in eahc army...tho my WOTR knowlage is more limited due to the fact that i don't like it that much.

Righty oh guys! Great to see some ideas being thrown in, I've been thinking of what competitions we could run for a while now and a painting/modelling one is out of the question as are most of them to be honest as we wouldn't see enough attraction to make an official competition with prizes etc.

But I'm all up for the idea of compiling beginners advice for each of the armies. In fact I think it's a brilliant idea.

This weekend I will post up a thread where we can gather the information for each army for both systems and once we have enough information I will start to post up the sticky threads for them.

Every member who contributes to this project will see a reasonably decent sized rep boost from me (it's no Galahad rep boost, but it's good enough  ).

So anyways, I'll post up a thread soonish where people can post what armies they can write something up for and for which game system. We should also compile a sample 'layout' to which people can use as a base when writing their 'Beginners Guide' to whichever army they are writing about.

I have written an 'Overview of the LOTR SBG' and will write a WOTR one eventually but this will be a brilliant expansion on this.

The paint schemes that used to be on the website, especially for the rohirrim and minas tirith really really works, its actually brilliant. A link or slight adaptation upon those two would be really really good for a beginners guide.

If they arent on the website i know i have the white dwarf compilation for the two towers so I'm sure i could find a few of them

Yup they are still there for example this riders of rohan one

though there is a better more detailed version that I'd rather find

Cool. I could take up pretty much anything apart from Angmar in WotR, and for SBG I could do Gondor, Maybe?

Not an experienced player but have read tons of articles, battle reports and seen them in action on the field (Gondor and Mordor) at my GW.

"Unit of the week" (could be called something else)
Looking through my White Dwarves, i notice that they'll focus on one unit in particular from one of the gaming systems and give a detailed analysis of the unit in terms of tactics, unit's strengths and weaknesses, primary role/s of that unit etc.

Each week the members of the forum can vote on a certain unit they want to know more about then another member could write a detailed article on that unit. Next week the members vote on another unit and we would just continue until every unit in the book is covered (or we just give up :p)

That sounds like something we could consider. Something like a 'WotR Unit of the Week' sounds okay to me what do you think? Like you said in the end we could have a very in depth detailed article for every unit which would be great.

Monday - Friday choose a unit.
Saturday/Sunday people can write the article and have it posted up.
Monday the process begins again.

Something like that were you thinking?

We would have it in one big long running thread and eventually when we have everything I'd go through and sort them in order to compile the final thread.

Yeah thats something along the lines of what I was thinking.

Individual units are what usually get people interested in the hobby. Theres always that one model where someone looks at it and says "wow, thats really cool" and they start an army just based off that one model. Like a chaplain or a wraithlord or tau crisis suits or theres a combination of models that stands out to a person. Thats how GW and White Dwarf gets people into the hobby or gaming system.

So some well written articles might inspire some people to get into WotR/LotR as it is a very fun system to play.

Although 8th Ed Fantasy is right around the corner so dont expect to get many people playing WotR/LotR real soon.

Before I get this Unit of the Week thing running, as it'll be using 'Units' from the War of the Ring book I need to check if there are enough people dedicated to writing these in depth analysis articles of Units for this feature. I myself am cast out from doing so due to not actually owning the War of the Ring book anymore.

So who else out there will be able to do so?

I'm going to take that as a no?

It's a shame because I'd really like to get something like this up and running.
