It's stated in the Dark Angels codex that the Imperium only has 1 jetbike left and this is ridden by the master of the Ravenwing. It's just this information doesn't ring true with me.

After all the Imperium has the technology to produce the Land Speeder which also uses anti grav technology so it's not like they've lost this. I just don't understand why they can produce one anti grav vehicle easily but another is almost completely gone?

Linked to this is why don't the traitor legions have or use land speeders or jetbikes. Did the moment they entered the Eye of Terror they went "I don't think we need all these vehicles any more!"

Keep in mind that there is a scale difference between a jetbike and land speeder. Look at hard drives now vs twenty five years ago, without the technology now the scale difference wouldn't be possible. The same concept is likely the case in 40k, with technology and knowledge having been lost in those thousands of years.

Same concept as the Imperium, I would imagine the jetbike is fairly high maintenance and the traitor legions within the eye are noted as not having the resources to maintain certain things (like land speeders or graviton weapons.)

Back in the R.T days, i believe the imperium had jet bikes but again they were rare! Then G.W tinketed with the lore and made the mechanicum so ultra dogmatic that literally nothing gets made anymore. It may also be a marketing thing to keep armies unique, so you dont have everyone with exact equivolent armies just different species. Would be good to see them brought back as a rare unit with a single unit limit. As for chaos not getting any, well the dark mechanicus are probably too busy sniffing glue and screwing cheap hookers to care

Yea that is like giving someone a Ford escort and saying, there you go, make yourself a bike from that. I'm sure someone with sufficient engineering skills could do it, but the rest of us would just settle for the car and hope it didn't get so shot up that it stopped working.

Also, the mechanicum considers it the gravest heresy to tinker with and reverse engineer relic technology. Imperial technology can only progress if you find STC stamped blueprints.

To give a relevant example. Governments are trying to clamp down on 3D printed guns, but the blueprints have spread out of control on the net. They can be manufacted entirely from plastic, and they work.

That makes sense.

I've just been reading up on the finding of the STC that held the designs for the Land raider and Land speeder on Lexicanum; is that a valid site for info or is it to be taken with a pinch of salt?

Wikia is generally a good site for lorefluff. Just keep an eye out for if its properly sourced to somewhere. Generally at the bottom of the page. But Magos Land is one of the more famous discoverers of STC plans.

@Gorthol, yes lexicanum is a very good source. Unlike many wiki's only certain people can add, edit, or remove things on lexicanum. (In fact you have to register an account with them and then they review what you've provided before letting you do anything.)

The same reason we don't have droppods; Because.
Everyone knows that's because you're too busy "Chaos'ing" to go and pick them up afterwards
