Basically, how big are the Tyranid boosting relative to their land based cousins?
I was thinking I could buy a box of nids and use that to build my bio ships
Is a Tyranid cruiser the size of a warrior or a guant?
Are the vanguard drones the size of warriors talone or gaunts talons?
I the hive ship the same size as the black kraken from dreadfleet?
I was thinking of green stuffing one up as it has the right kind of look

Does anybody know where to get ships on the cheap?
Imperial and tau ships welcome too and perhaps orks

Here's a comparison picture of the official models with some orbital defenses. Really, a Nid ship is about the same size as its Imperial counterpart, though the Hive Ships may be a bit longer due to tentacles.

Just remember that those ships are made from Nid bits in the first place. The escorts use hormagaunt/genestealer claws for example.

I've made escorts out of devourer guns from termagaunts or multiple claws on a spinefist. Cruisers I've made from warrior torsos or multiple pieces of Carnifex Carapace. I'm in the middle of building a Hive Ship that looks like a much larger version of the official nid cruiser using larger scything talons and the carapace from some bigger bugs.

In short, go wild. Even if you stick only to Nid bits, you have plenty of options. And if you look elsewhere you get even more. Some of the best conversions I've seen use foamcore as the base for the larger ships.

As a word of caution, don't go too crazy on the cruisers. A good nid fleet is one or two hive ships depending on size, then load up on escorts. Only use cruisers sparingly, escorts are often capable of dishing out more hurt and are better at defending the hive ships. Cruisers are really only better at tanking hits.

Okay, I was mainly wondering if the cruisers were made of guant carapace's or warrior torsos, and if the escorts were made of gaunt claws or warrior claws, you know

Cruisers= warriors
Escorts= gaunts
Smal critter, small ship. Big critter, big ship :)
Also, there is so few official models remaining that you can just take the rough size of imperial ships (maybe a little bigger, imo) and just model the hivefleet the hell you like it to be :)

If you build a particular cruiser with many claws and some kitbashing work you can as well use all gaunts... it's a big work of green stuff, more than claws and carapaces

Yeah, I was thinking of glueing 2 carapace's back-back with fleshborers poking out the back and talons out the 'arms'
There's a pic some where

EDIT:

Here's the pic, I was aiming for something like this
