A mate of mine used to be quite high up in gw and he was saying that one of the main reason's andy chambers left gw is that he wanted to take 40k in new directions and shake up the 40k universe in big ways.

Basically the plot he submitted was that a new tyranid hive fleet materialised right around terra slipping "under" the warp in ways previously unheard of. They assault earth and the imperial palace. Meanwhile a fleet of spacehulks heads towards the center of imperial space. It is not showing sign's of being chaos or tyranid in origins. The marines and imperials muster, chasing the fleet towards earth, where the unknown tyranid threat is about to strike. It turns out that the hulks are cypher and the fallen angels, deliberately drawing the imperials back toward earth to save the emperror.
The nids attack, the marines counter attack and a bloody war engulf's earth. The emperror stirs, and takes the fight to the enemy but the marine counter assault is too late and the imperial palace falls and the emperror is killed. All seems lost and then out of the mists the primarchs return and fight back the tyranid threat, leading there chapters to victory. One of the Primarchs[can't remember if its Lion el johnson or Rouboute Gilliman(spellings probably off :))]
Meanwhile the Tau empire seizes the oppertunity to take a fair portion of imperial space and dig in whilst the Marines attentions are held elsewhere

Apparently this was part of the same story as the 13th company emerging form the Eye of terror which was the only part of the story that remained.

Personally i think it sound quality and would shack things up nicely :)

It's not actually going to happen. The thirteenth company emerging from the EoT is part of the Endgame of 40K, according to Russ, and as excellent as it would be for that rather intriguing piece of information to set up the 40K's endgame, there won't ever be an endgame.

Don't be so sure. I'd like to see GW carry the timeline into the dawn of the 42nd Millenium. The 13th Black Crusade began in 997.M41... I mean, there's only so much that can go down and fit with pre-existing events before you have to move on.

I'm not sure I like the ideas above though. The Emperor is physically almost nothing-- I seriously doubt he could get up, much less fight. Cypher hates the Imperium, to boot... he's a renegade in every regard-- just not a worshipper of Chaos. He'd be fine with the light of Terra blinking out, I think.

The 13th Company's emergence is supposed to be a portent for the end of humanity and the return of Leman Russ, but you have to figure that the 13th Crusade could've easily reached Terra if GW had wanted it to. The Imperial fighting forces have a lot of other stuff to contend with, starting with the Tyranids as the next greatest threat to the Imperium. If they really devoted the resources to keeping the Chaos Legions in the Cadian gate, the Imperium would be in shambles from the predations of every other threat in the galaxy. The Tau, the Necrons, the Tyranids, heretics and mutants on countless worlds, Eldar raids, Hrud... all the thousands of lesser aliens that GW either hasn't mentioned at all but are surely around or have mentioned only in passing, such as those in the Xenology book that aren't part of a 40k army... just think about the scale of things.

I like that shit! I would love to see GW shake the 40K universe up like that as opposed to simply maintaining the status quo. Dammit, I want AC back even more now.

I am a Dark Angels Player and I think this would have been good as the Fallen have always strove to cleanse themselves of their sins though the part about the Primarchs coming back is a bit odd as most of them to my knowledge are dead and the rest are lost (again).
Making Tau a major player is good as they deserve this as they are now one of the most popular races certainly amongst the xenos races in 40k.

One more thing imagine the money spinners Primarch Models would be for GW, I'm surprised they have't already done this LOL

All in all I think the 40K universe is in need of a big shake up, though we will have to wait to see what happens with the fallen ovr the next few months as they may plunge deeper into the void of their sins.

Well, when you think about it, that would stir the imperium out of it's slumber. Since the emperor was entombed they've been fighting a fight of mere survival, not really expansionism. If the Emperor was killed and the Primarch's returned, then the Imperium would have actual leadership, not the fat, High Lords of Terra. If the Tau took a huge chunk of the imperium, then you've got a major war right there. The Tables could be completely flipped. The forces of Chaos would be on the run due to the coming of the Starchild (Purely skeptical, no actual fact in that.). I think that's an awesome way for GW to go.

I have only been around for fourth edition, so correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Horus Heresy created like this? It was originally just marines and eldar until Realms of Chaos came out and "shook up" the 40K universe, however little of it there was at the time.

So something like this is not totally improbable. It would give GW a chance to introduce a few new armies as well. We have eight main ones and WHFB has what, twelve?

Anyway, that would be pretty cool.

I like most of it, up untill the emporer dieing and the primarchs returning, if you are going to bring them back, bring them all back. And as quite a few of them are dead (/ the most characterful one: The Nighthaunter; the first first heretic) it could be hard.

Plus I think the emporer dieing, while a nice idea is probably a little to radical.

I agree, about the emperor dying, while a intresting idea and setting a "whoa" moment to the story of 40k, the emperor is EVERYTHING the imperium is built on, the belief of their emperor, it would be hard for the primarchs, even as they are, to pull the imperium out of the ruined shackles it would be from all the chaos to ensue, and key word there, "chaos" the chaos gods could in some way gain more influence and power abadon probably see'ing it as a good time to come out for another crusade and huzzah! the imperium is plagued and in civil war!
Its a great way to to shake things up definately, but... for now too radical

I don't think they have the balls to pull of such a radical change.

Although in my eyes GW have been doing some increasingly stupid things lately. Maybe I should start digging a Emporer shaped grave just in case. :?

Although im late to this forum....The fallen angels and cypher are trying to help the imperium....research a bit! he bears Lion's sword with the promise that he will give it back to him when he returns....but in general...the idea sounds great the primarchs coming back have been brewing for ages...gulliman slowly healing, leman russ in the warp, EL'Johnson in the rock...its waiting to happen and wht about nto missing primarchs? i think that they'll come back at some point they wouldnt just make that interesting cliffhanger just to never expand it! But i dont think the emperor should die, if he did, the imperium would collapse...or maby the change will be so radical as to say that after his death, the primarchs take over but are devided on who should rule over all, not wanting to give one power for fear of another Hourus Heresy...and so split aand the imperium is devided and plunged into huge civil war...but that would be too radical....it does however need shaking up...the huge stalemate is getting boring...at some point the tyranids have to do somthing big, they keep going on about how there the new big threat to mankind but they havnt actually done much except attack macragge (big deal) they have to do somthing huge to earn there right as the biggest threat to mankind. Also it sais in the new rulebook on the timeline that the golden throne is malfuctioning and as rorgal dorn made it, it would be a good reason for him the come back...there hasnt been a national campaign for a while since the city fight one...which was crap...it was just a single planet in the middle of nowhere big deal...i deffinatly think somhting big will happen and it will happen within the next few years

The huge stalemate getting boring? Never!
The thing that we should be interested in is the past, not the future. There's 10000 years to fill, and the horus heresy books will probably go on for another 20.

There's so much stuff, so much material to make a game from.

yea, the stalemate is getting dull. And while I mostly agree on the Primarchs should come back (except for Guilliman, he can trip while he's getting up, as the cut finishes sealing, and tear the damn thing wide open, prefferebly falling down some stears afterwards, causing his torn neck to give out, ripping off the head, lol). For the others, the peices are all in place, always have been, or could be at any time (Vulkan Hes'Tan could stumble on those last few relics at any given point, bringing back the primarch Vulkan).

another massive tourney would be cool (if done right), would probably give us updated Lost and the Damned, and Kroot dexes to use (which are two massively cool, depressingly un/under used/loved (well, by GW at least) codexes). My moneyis on once everyone has a 5th ded 'dex we'll get another international tourney (along with aforementioned updates)
