Dear Heretics, I am amongst other things building a Shadowsword tank, not the most versatile super heavy but I think its cool which is very important, and vdry bad ass albeit a one trick pony. Now this badboy will need an escort to keep him safe, so I want to build a force, based around the Shadowsword, does not have to competitive but I want something that looks real world likely, so it will need an armour escort, some infantry and air defence, not a flier, this will be a tactical force, so air supremacy will be left to the Imperial Navy.

Okidoke, so I'm thinking the force should look something like this, core of the force is:

X 1 Shadowsword tank
X 1 company command squad
X 1 commissar -cant have an asset like that about without keeping an eye on it!
X 1 engineseer with some servitors
X 4 veteran squads with chimeras with auto cannons-if imperial armour second edition still lets them, haven't got it yet, these lads will basically be my bouncers, and stag on when the force is laagered up!
X 2 hydra flak tanks

Now, the rest of the force should realistically have a few leman russ tanks as escort, I was thinking maybe 4, x2 vanquishers x2 exterminators and maybe some close fire support such as a couple of medusas or something.

As always your opinions and input is greatly appreciated xoxox Oldman

Thanks mate, I'll have a look for that, though this does not have to be 100% battleforged, it could be an unbound detachment, it is more about the look and feel of the force than anything else.

That seems a pretty good escort company that you have listed there already mate. The Considerations for this are very similar to those for a Jagdtiger, the best real-world approximation. The Shadowsword is a titan hunter where the Jagdtiger was a tank hunter, so that may well provide an excuse if you wanted to go heavier in your list. I personally have my Shadowsword within my Tank Company, so when it comes out in Apocalypse it does so with a baneblade squadron to its left and a Leman Russ Company to its right... or it will when I eventually acquire and paint them all.

Disregarding the FoW game system specific stuff, this article actually provides some pretty accurate insights for what you'll face, with the aside that they don't have powerfist wielding superhumans who drop from the sky on turn one.
