Recently, I had a good deal fall into my lap. 3 Blood Angels Battleforce, 2 Baal Predators, Lemartes, Sanguinary Priest, Space Marine Captain, Sternguard, Sanguinary Guard, Astorath and Mephiston.

Now, out of things I already have there are 10 Vanguard (no upgrades, w/Jump Packs), 10 Assault Marines, bitz for an Apothecary, 2 Chaplains, and what are technically 10 Death Company from a Vanguard kitbash that never happened.

Obviously, this is more than enough to start an army. However, I'm unsure of how to proceed in the build. Obviously, Blood Angels are ideal for Death Company and taking Assault Marines as troops, not to mention the Baal Predators have scout (awesome sauce).

Any thoughts on how to build things up for a nice army are most definitely welcome as I'm currently stumped on what/how to build due to other thongs going on and not being able to concentrate/focus on building this army.

I just sold my blood angels due to lack of time/space...I didn't play them all that long, so take this with a grain of salt, I think Ntaw and Midnight Sun play blood angels from what i remember and are infinitely more knowledgeable and sure they will reply...

But for troop choices and an army core I always went for Assault Marines and never used Tacticals and Scouts...Just don't see the point.

ASM's with x2 melta guns or x2 flamers (with optional hand flamer) deep striked deals with mech and hordes respectively and are of course scoring. I'd use a 2-3 as your core scoring units and you can build from there.
If you want them on for alpha striking turn 1 then put them in a drop pod.

Death Company: Main problem with 6th is getting them into assault. Storm Raven or land Raider are really expensive options but work fine.
I always just had a 10 man squad with bolters in a pod with a Reclusiarch. Just be selective about where they are placed, don't expect them to go toe to toe with terminators and come out alive...
I think keeping them cheap and cheerful is the best way to run them. A Reclusiarch boosts their close combat potential and was always my HQ choice. The fact they are not scoring now also really hurts in 6th edition with objective-based games. That said, they are probably much more balanced than in 5th edition now and they are not anything to be ignored by any means.

Fragioso Dreads: Loved these and auto-included them in every list: In a drop pod turn one with those assault 2 rending templates, good distraction unit that can lay down decent damage to infantry.

Baals: Great.

Those were always my core units.

Well, I think that my FoC may fill out something like this.

HQ
Mephiston -OR- Astorath
Reclusiarch
Honour Guard

Troops
Tactical Squad
Tactical Squad
Tactical Squad
Assault Marines
Assault Marines
Death Company

Elite
Chaplain
Chaplain
Sanguinary Priests

Fast
Baal Predator
Baal Predator
Vanguard

That's just basing it off of what is on hand with what I have.

I don't know about this infinitely more business man, you've got a good head on your shoulders for this game. BUT if you're gunna go making comments like this...

Mephiston -OR- Astorath
Reclusiarch
Honour Guard
Mephiston, and Reclusiarch's are only really necessary as an HQ when there are no other alternatives or you need the extra Elites slot. Obviously they couple amazingly with DC, but they do nothing a Chaplain won't do for the same unit. I shy away from Honour Guards due to their extravagant points cost, but they can be effective depending on the use. What do you want them to accomplish?

Tactical Squad
Tactical Squad
Tactical Squad
I took all my Tactical squads and am painting them yellow for my Imperial Fist army. Despite my love of Fast tanks, Bolter Drill does more for these units than the Red Thirst and Fast tanks ever will. Not that they can't be used in a BA army, I just find them kinda blah unless I've been reading HH books (aka bolter porn, right??) recently.

Assault Marines
Assault Marines
Straken's got it, 210 for the 2x MG squad and 220 for 2x F & 2x HF one...can't go wrong. Due to the nature of my main opponent, instead of using a Fragioso in a Drop Pod I play a third 2x MG RAS in a DP to deal with at least one tank first thing, but I would be a much happier space vampire if I could drop templates of death.

Death Company
Again, Straken. I prefer to go all out though, all pistols and CCWs. It's fucking madness rolling out 50 dice and coming up with damn near 50 wounds with all the re-rolls and bonuses that they get when they charge out of my LRR....but I rarely ever get to charge with the whole squad.

As in it's happened once.

Chaplain

Two of these guys is a little excessive. Specially if you're not going bat shit nuts and playing a DC army and using Astorath as your HQ. Which you could REALLY do with all those tactical marines.

Sanguinary Priests
Love 'em. Give these guys a PS/LC to capitalize on his WS5 and enjoy having two characters in your unit at challenge time.

Baal Predator
Baal Predator
Fuck yea. I'm playing two with TLAC, HB sponsons, and pintle SBs and loving it. The pintle mounts were points filler in a game, but I love having them for 2 extra shots at 24" and as an extra weapon on the vehicle. It's also nice when you can only get one of your two sponsons on a target to still get those two dice rolling.

An expensive unit, but you'll likely wipe a squad off the board when they arrive if you equip them right. Trick is, you've got a D6" consolidate move to get into some cover or you may very well be toast and those points better have at least paid for themselves in enemy troops.

I have a fuck ton of fun playing my BA with IF allies, and I know you play out of C:SM all the time Jace. What do you think of playing an allied list and capitalizing a bit on those Tactical squads?

Well, playing an allied list isn't a stretch for me considering my maim army is Crimson Fists and I have a ton of those painted and ready to go.
But, the Tactical Squads should be converted to Death Company? Hmm...

What about the Sanguinary Guard, Sternguard, and Captain? Any good use for them, beyond kitbashing for sergeants and the like?

Sanguinary Guard I don't use because of the cost of the unit. Sternguard I don't use because I already T1 DS a MG assault squad, and the special ammunition doesn't count for much in my games. A Captain I use when I'm not using a Reclusiarch or Mephiston, or basically when Im not using DC or don't want to spend the points on Mephiston. I use him with a PS and PA in the RAS that has flamers and in conjunction with a Priest.

hah. Just stating fact dude. I only had about 5 proper games with them and mostly with as allies to dark angels...I've gotta add these disclaimers, as despite the fact this is the internet, I still don't want people taking my advice for canon.
