ok, i know it hasnt been long since my last post but ive hit another speed bump. my up himself mate has adapted his list into a "permanant" set up (or at least until i figure how to bezt this list) 1k points limit. 1 flyrant, 2 tyrannofexs's(1 fleshbore hive) 1 tervigon, 2x 10 hormagaunts, 1 mawloc and 16 ymgarl genestealers. his only tactic, advance up field, spawn guys to clamp objectives, flyrant pisses off troops, mawloc destroys specialist units, ymgarls contest and mop up surviving troops, monstrous creatures pick off tanks/troops.

now, i have adapted my army slightly but beeyond what ive done im not sure what to do.
my list - typhus, 20 cultists(1 unit-zombies) 10 plague marines in rhino (protection from ymgarls-mawloc) 1 aegis line(lascannon), 10 chaos marines(melta,plasma gun,mk of nurgle),2 helbrutes(both with 2 power fists) and heldrake(baleflamer).

my idea is to sit back, burn off objectives with baleflamer, plague marines get out of tank(which acts as bait for mawloc) helbrute 1 engages mawloc and kills it, 20 cultists bog down ymgarls, typhus (already in unit) blows destroyer hive and kills ymgarls. chaos marines maning lascannon shoot at flyrant and other MC's, helbrute 2 engages tyrannofexs's and kills them off 1 at a time, being backed up by remaining plague marines and hellbrute. anyone got any thoughts?

1k points limit.
HQ
1 flyrant
just shoot her, with bolter weapons/skyfire first, once down then shoot with plasma/melta/EVERYTHING

Elite
16 ymgarl genestealers
just, kill with bolters, especially since they can't assault the turn they are deployed since it was in reserve.

Troops
1 tervigon (i assume)
2x 10 hormagaunts
shoot "mama" until she is dead...the whiplash on the tervigants near her will be painful.

HS
2 tyrannofexs's(1 fleshbore hive)
i dont remember how well they do in assualt...but just shoot em with plasma or ignore them.

1 mawloc
assault the fucker, since it can't burrow the turn it showed up, just assault the pain in the ass, then it can't get away...i think
against nids, bring more plasma and flamers for the special weapons, if your using melta then your prolly gonna have a bad time. besides more shots the better.

Flyrant - if you hit it once it has a 1/3 chance of being grounded so small arms fire first.

MCs - Can be assaulted (bring a PF), but should be plasmad (bring lots of that).

Gaunts and genestealers die horribly to flamers, also kind of to standard bolters.

As statad, special weapons are your friend. I would take some 10 man marine squads with 2 special weapons in them (and also a PF).

I would honestly not advise the helldrake against this list because his MCs will be spread, and while it will kill the gaunts there are cheaper and more otherwise useful ways to go about it.

On the aegis, I would fit in the quad if you can: more shots > higher strength ones (in this situation).

I dont know much about hellbrutes, but the PFs sound good. Can they go toe to toe with a MC? (just looked them up, maybe but maybe not. 3+/2+ on malocs, 4+/2+ on the others with only 4 attacks on the charge, 3 normally. Many of these have 6 wounds, remember. You would be better off replacing these with some plasma marines.

I would spread some flamers throughout your force to deal with the ymargls when they pop up (remember, as stated they cant assault t1) and definitely more marine bodies/plasma.

Typhus is way expensive for 1k, I suggegs a libby (equivalent) to add some presience on to your guys.

Sorry for the rambling, I kinda just typed what came into my head. Good luck!

for the helbrutes i prefer taking the power scourge and the stock MM, able to shoot (and potentially fry vehicles) and it makes it harder for things to hit it (with the flail rule)...so against things that are WS3, quickly they are hitting you on 5's rather than 4's...which doesn't work against a particular foe of mine...

I would take a second bale Drake rather than 2 hellbrutes, and drop Typhus in favour of a cheaper lord or sorcerer

Plague marines I think should be in 7-8 man units. The reason you go 10 marines is for the second special, plagues get this anyway and their tough enough to get away with less starting guys

The 20 cultists are not going to stop 16 Ymargls, they will tear that unit to ribbons. That said 16 ymargs will turn most units to ribbons so you need to flame and shoot them early

Drop the Aegis line I don't think its worth it against nids and for the cost of it you could get a predator or a unit of missile or autocannon havocs, these will stick wounds on mcs

I think if you trim down bits of your list you can get more boots on the table and crush them with more numbers and bolters

(Just realised this is a very indrick Boreal approach... (if you played DoW1)

the problem is though is that the ymgarls can assault the turn they arrive ("dormant" special rule i think) they appear from any piece of terain the owner chooses. the ymgarls also have a 4+ save, so imo flamers are kinda redundant + my marines are mainly going to be facing down monstrous creatures. The reason i think typhus is good (even though he costs an arm a leg and a first born child) is because he can generate plenty of psychic powers to weaken/debuff his ymgarls and MC's, he inflicts Instant death to MC's and can easily clear a horde because of destroyer hive.
power scourges sound good but they only effect base to base models for 1 phase , so is it really worth it? same thing with the quad gun, good shots but doesn't ignore armour saves of MC'S (which are all it gonna target really)

in general, plasmas, meltas, power fists?

I think I said much the same in your previous thread, but what you've listed for your friend is way over 1000 pts:

1 flyrant - 230pts with no upgrades other than wings
2 tyrannofexs's(1 fleshbore hive) - 250pt base, 260pt with the upgrade
1 tervigon - 160pt with no upgrades
2x 10 hormagaunts - 120pts
1 mawloc - 170
16 ymgarl genestealers - 360ish

So that little lot actually tots up to more than 1500 points, without any upgrades on any of the models other than what you've listed.

Remember he has to choose the piece of terrain at the start of the game (granted after deployment but you should have them in mind before you deploy) and if they unit can't fit in that particular piece of terrain when they enter the game they're destroyed - so just bung units on likely terrain and watch him cry when they become available and get destroyed.

Edit: And yes, as above - Ymgarls are 5-10 min/max so a unit of 16 is just plain cheating unless they're in 2 separate units

This.

Autocannon havocs are cheap and will wrack up wounds on mc spam. I don't know if you have access to the models but noise marines will do much better than plague marines and are cheaper. Salvo 2/3 cover ignoring boltguns will melt his non mc units. Also recommend dropping the aegis. Need more guns whether its plasma or havocs.

you are fighting with 2/3 of his points... the tirannofex should be gone!
About typhus: if you want to debuff, then go for a lvl 3 sorc with mark of nurgle on a big nurgle marines unit (8 of them), then buff your buddies, and charge the MC to swarm them with powerfist attack AND poison 4+ plague knife.
Drop the zombies and the brutes. they only shine on the " I die quick and uselessly" ability.
So, an example list:

Lord, Mon, Sigils, Fistclaw, bike (165)
Sorceror 2nd level (85) only biomancy, please
7 plague marines w/ 2 plasma (198)
7 Plag. mar. w/2 plasma (198)
10 cultists, 1 flamer (55)
5 bikers, Mon, power fist, 2 melta gun (185)
5 havocs, 4 autocannon (115)

1001 pts (since your mate has been playing with 1400ish points, if he's not a sissy, he will allow you to deploy 1 pt above cap...)
pretty standard army, with a bit of fun from the sorc.
Cheers

that cheating git! i thought he was winning too easily. im gonna kick his head in next time i see him!

anyway, i can see how a nurgle biker lord is good (T6) etc, but ive tried him already. My douch canoe friend just vector strikes-shoots him and his unit of bikers to death. id rather just take typhus for his survivability and his ability to clear an assualt. the zombies are there just for extra wounds and to stall any infiltrating/dormancy genestealers. the cultists would probably die after the stealers attack but then typhus just blows the destroyer hive and kills them outright. i can see why helbrutes aren't always attractive but against monstrous creatures that are I1 (fex's, tervigons, tyrannofex's) they will tear them a new arsehole (1 managed to kill his tervigon - tyrannofex and nearly a carnifex but finally went down to crushing claws after failing to get some decent hits) under estimating a hellbrute is probably one of the key points of using it effectively.
