Am thinking of working of on a conversion of the soul drinkers chapter master and am in need of thoughts on my basic plan. I am thinking of using the Goblin warboss on giant spider as a base cutting off the spider's head and rider replacing with the terminator librarian model with staff. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I don't think Sarpedon wears Terminator armour, could be wrong but I'm sure it's just standard power armour he wears. Other than that the plan sounds pretty good so far, the only real problem is whether or not he has the lower body of a spider or just the legs, I've always thought just the legs. I did have a go at a similar conversion a while back using Tyranid legs, it didn't go well and I lost patience in the end.
Post up some pics when it's done though!

Lolz, I started on a sarpedon conversion last week!

I bought a BFSP spider and ripped everything off you mentioned.
But since Sarpecon wears Power Armour I used a bit I had lying around, used the frost-axe from the spacewolfs sprue, cut off the axe blade and replaced it with a bit to make it look like a staff.
It's still not finished though (working on bionic leg and still needs loads of putty) but if you'd like I could post some pics when I'm finished...

problem is that the nid claws make him look more like an octopus than a spider... That's the problem I faced at first too. They're too thick and the blades have to be filed down big-time and then they have to be made a whole lot thicker to make it look spiderlike. Meaning it'd be easier to use a BFSP spider bit, which also makes him look better imo...

I was actually re-reading the Soul Drinkers series, and had a few thoughts on Sarpedon:

-The legs are described as bony, but quite strong. No mention of hair on them, so I imagine they're hairless. Also no mention of a spider-like abdomen, so the legs must simply replace his "normal" human-like legs with no extra spider anatomy like web spinarets.
-He probably wears artificier armor (Or the equivalent) with a psychic hood. He occaisionally wears a helmet when needed/required.

it's true there's no mention of a spider-butt, but just google sarpedon and click pictures. There's one that only has the legs and it makes him look more like an octopus than a spider IMO...

There's also no mention of him having no spider-abdomen, so unless we get some pics of Sarpedon soon, its all just a matter of guessing and interpretation.

But if he DID have a spider's abdomen, he'd also have the various organs/structures therein, as well, such as aanother stomach and the aforementioned web spinarets.

The books also mentions that the legs put his height up to 3 meters. With a "normal" marine usually described as 2 meters tall, this makes Sarpy a third again as tall as the rank and file...

But ultimately, make the model however YOU want it to look, as it is YOUR project.

Ultimately I wanted to follow the staff look so may try power armor but either way I'm set for the giant spider body, it just doesn't quite look right with the eight legs jutting from his body. The only reason for using the terminator was because it had a staff and thanks Bloodthrister for the axe idea I think that might just work. Also was hoping to use him as a centerpiece for Dr_Insanity's codex here because i am currently working on play testing it with some friends, but do think Sarpedon needs to be at 250pts not 215.
