So I have read more and more novels dealing the the Salamander Astartes Chapter from the planet of Prometheus. As I was reading "Forge Master" earlier today I kept hearing of references to Fire Drakes. I have read in previous books of creatures that the Salamanders use to make cloaks of thick scales that can be bullet proof. However there is no offical mention of it on Lexicanum other than the 300 year old cloak that is worn by Chapter Master Tu'Shan. There is a mention from either He'Stan or Tsu'Gan about Fire Drakes being hunted as parts of Initiation for the Salamander Neophytes before moving up into the gene-seed stage of development. A

Can anyone verify if this is Fact, or merely a nice touch of Fiction thrown into the books to add some mysticism to everything?

During the contest to win over Vulkan's loyalty, the Index Astrates states, "Vulkan boasted that he would climb to the summit of Mount Deathfire, where the largest firedrakes could be found..."

Though this is taken from a(n in universe) book called The Opus, so whether we can take this at facevalue at or not is up to your interpretation.

Vulkan He'stan wears Kesare's mantle, which is a drakescale cloak that infers his 3++ save. I would assume this is made from firedrake scales.

In codex armageddon Sallies also had an option to take a salamander skin cloak which made them immune to certain forms of instant death.

I could see 10,000 years of Drake hunting resulting in extinction of the species on Nocturne. I also read (on Lexicanum, so pass the salt) that Keasare's Mantle was one of Vulcan's seven relics and constructed by him from the Drake he brought back from his contest with the Emperor when they first met.

Thnxs Rems, I must have completely missed that section of the nocturne page. Thnxs to the rest of you, interesting to know that He'Stan working the Forge attracts the firedrakes Brother Lucian. Noise, or the material he is working?
