Spoilers below:

Hasn't it been established that the wolves that always accompany Russ are in fact aspirants who didn't take well to the canis felix/Space Wolf geneseed (based on Prospero Burns and Magnus's observations in A Thousand Sons)?

This is from Wraight's Wolf King:

"Geri looked up at her master, golden eyes unblinking."

Freki and Geri were part of the pack that took Russ in when he landed on Fenris. I don't know of any bit of fluff that stated they were aspirants who took badly to the Canis Helix.

So, from this, you read that not only that Geri is a failed aspirant, but also a female failed aspirant? That's stretching it a bit.

All the fluff that has ever mentioned them has said they were part of the pack that took him in when he landed on Fenris. There has never been any proof that failed aspirants turn into wolves. Some do fall to the curse of the wulfen, but as we've seen with the 13th company, they are your common-or-garden werewolves, as opposed to mutating into proper Fenrisian wolves.
